  • moon jellyfish if it has the 4 dots

  • Sad Music :(

  • where is it possible to buy larger box jellyfish

  • @kuzak20 you dont want to buy box jellyfish...they are extremely poisonous and lethal. This is probably not box jelly fish if this person has touched one tentacle and did not go to the hospital or die,so Its probly just a look alike specieces for protection like how non poisonous berries are red so birds wont eat them, stuff like that :)

  • @mayaDUDE998 actually its very possible to capture these jellies and handle them so long as you don't come into contact with their tentacles. You can grab the bell and handle them that way, avoiding being stung by wearing gloves and a full body suit. Also you may be interested to know that box jellies, unlike other species have eyes that can distinguish colors and shapes. They are 28, all them localized around the four corners of the bell.

  • im pretty sure those are box jellies.

  • its a box jellie. do NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THE TENTICALS!!!!!!these in austrialia kill 70+ people a year and in total about 375+ people a year around the world

  • Hitting the side of the glass tank is what killed these. Because they're so fragile, the only way to keep them alive for a longer amount of time, if youre lucky, is to create a circle-tank with a current along the outside to keep them from hitting the glass.

  • x]

    poke the squishy parts!!!!

  • dude those are really! i mean really! box jellyfish and i shall call them squishies and they shall be my squishies!

  • wow it would be hallrious if you just dropped the camera in the water bowl and never put this on youtube cause its gay!!!

  • @lyricslover4ever

Go away troll...nobody needs you -_-'

  • @PirateSmoothie idcwys

  • @lyricslover4ever yeah man! it would also be hilarious if i "accidentaly" drop you in a tank full of these! wouldnt it?

  • dude if u touch that im subbing i mean touch the tentacles

  • awsome creature

    can you buy one?

  • @dontmakemeMAD1990 If you are willing to spend $249 for the starter kit at jellyfishart . com (I think it includes the jelly fish) then go on ahead. Make a video of it since not very many people have them, that is if you are spoiled rich and you do get it.

  • @0YtsanBlowout0 hey thanks:)

  • @dontmakemeMAD1990 You might die if u touched...

  • @bluecrab7 cute

  • @dontmakemeMAD1990 yea cute

guy1 hey its so cute i wanna touch it

    guy2 no dont

    guy 3 dies

    guy 2 cries

  • Chironex fleckeri. nasty mate

  • yup thats a box jelly i wouldent want to touch that. get a moon or baby blue jelly they dont sting

  • actually i think its a arocongie - smaller and even more deadly. fun.

  • @XMODSFan123 nah it's not the irukandji. irukandji's have only 4 tentacles

  • @MacintoshPlus1MB actually they can have many tentacles not just 4

  • @Chan32411 really? oh. I watched a video and it said they had 4 tentacles.

  • I dont know if its just me, but if you pause the vidoe at 1:37 it looks like the jellyfish on the left has a face.....kinda creepy but idk if i only see this

  • It totally has a face. it's a Cylon face tho

  • @bttownsley

haha awesome..okay at least I know Im not going crazy here...

  • I see it.

  • ok, it looks like a stormtrooper from star wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha too cool

  • @TILINwho ya i saw it 2 its creepy

  • are you stupid they died cuz your suposed to have a circular water motion for them LIKE THERE INVIROMENT!! this is wrong you let them poor babies suffer!!

  • "Thier environment"

  • "Their"

  • Suffer? They have no brain, it's doubtful they suffer at all.

  • species of jellyfish is mortal

  • so are humans and every other living thing.

  • LOL, for mozzies and bed bugs as well.

  • it's an "URUKANJI", a letal jellyfish

  • No it isnt. Irukandji which is the correct way of spelling what you were trying to spell only has 1 tentacle on each corner. This is a species of box jellyfish but not very large. Irukandji is about the size of your finger nail so a lot smaller than this.

  • urukanjis are smaller, sorry mate

  • what river did you go to?

i wanna go there.. i love Jellyfishes.

even though i got stung once and it

left an ugly scar on my leg. lol

  • Get stung by a box jelly and you're a dead man. :P

  • These will leave a lot more than a scar.

  • i didn't know jellyfish lived in rivers too! :O

  • would of died a lot quicker if you just put them into a blender

  • Poor jellyfish!

  • sell them to a muesum or a lab

  • they'll be dead soon if you keep them in there

  • DEF BOX jelly

  • The jellyfish most likely died because they lacked the required constant current in the water to survive. That, plus a lack of substrate for bacteria to grow on would be my guess.

  • it isn t chironex fleckeri(box jellyfısh)

  • people can purchase jellyfish?

i realise yours are for research and you found them in the river

but it's a question ive never asked.

  • the movie 7 pounds... will smith has a box jellyfish pet. thing is huge though.

it's awesome... (he dumps it in the bath while he is in it to kill himself) *sad part*

  • nice work spoiling the movie for ppl. and no that was the *happy part* captain obvious.

  • wow..did you really just do that?

  • i think jellyfish are amazing

  • At first, I thought it was some other box jelly genus, and not Chironex, as I always remember Chironex having long, hair-like tentacles.

But, from my books, they appear to be Chironex, or sea wasps.

And yes, they can be found away from the ocean, as the polyps they develop from grow in mangrove estuaries, which is also where the adults breed.

Contrary to popular belief, most Sea Wasp stings are not fatal, just horribly painful and leave ugly, long-lasting scars.

  • jellyfish eat fish

  • Oops, didn't read the info accross the bottom. Still, Irukandji don't have sets of 3 tentacles and aren't found in rivers. They are found just off the coast of northern Australia.

  • Those are definately not Irukandji or Chironex Fleckeri. I can tell from the size. Irukandji are as small as your thumbnail and Chironex are as big as a basketball.

  • Could be Juvenile chironex.

After all, they don`t come basket ball sized straight from the polyp.

In any case its definitely a Cubozoan of some type, The characteristic Velum and four quadrant tentacle clusters make it obvious.

  • Possibly, they do like a lot like chironex. Still doesn't explain the location the video poster found them in. Unless it was some saltwater river that empties into the ocean of northern Australia, I don't think they are.

  • well other cubozoans are found elsewhere.

    some not as venomous.

But still likely from the same taxonomic family as Chironex,

    "Chirodropidae"

That could explain some of the morphological similarities here. similarly to how one can identify a Nemopilema nomurai and a Cassiopeia Andromeda as both being rhizostomes.

  • So if its not chironex, then i think it might be at least close to it.

  • song? o.O

  • rofl xD

  • can anyone PLEEEEEAAAASSSSEE tell me what i need to get going in an aquarium to keep jellyfish alive and thriving?? i'm going to the coast this week and i'm hoping to bring back some comb or moon jellies.

  • if you stick your hand in that bowl, and move it about for 1 hour, ill pay you a million if you survive :D

  • YOu stick your hand in that bowl. Then you'll tatally die.Cause thta's a box jelyfish.I can tell when it's a box jellyfish. But it's cousin is more poinsous then the box jellyfishSO you have more chances of suriving a box jellyfish sting. But it will be pailful i tell u that much

  • if you stick your hand in that bowl, and move it about for 1 hour, ill pay you a million if you survive :D

  • not a good bet.

Only some Cubozoans have venom deadly enough for that.

  • the most poisons thing in the world.

  • 2nd actually

1st is a type of snake now

  • the box jellyfish is not as deadly in any way as a sea wasp jellyfish

  • The Sea Wasps ARE Box Jellyfish.

  • Also Sea Wasp right?

  • Sea wasps are a type of box jellyfish.

  • how are these danerous... just stay away from them... jellyfish are jellyfish...

    wat kind of snake

  • pardon?

  • try reading the question? how are they dangerous... jellyfish sting...

and whats the most dangerist snake on earth?

  • I am not familiar with snakes.

But i am aware that Cnidaira are most toxic animals on the face of earth. Chironex, Palythoa, and Irukandji are the deadliest organisms.

  • Well, if you want to get technical, the bacteria botulinum is the most toxic organism on earth.

  • There are some Cyano`s which are pretty bad.

  • Actually the most toxic oganism on earth is Orville the Duck.

( - a fat green puppet operated by UK ventriloquist Keith Harris, using a falsetto voice. Harris is wanted by police for crimes against decency and taste, in particular, for the production of the torture device known as "Orville's Song" which features ghastly lyrics such as "I wish I could fly, right up to the sky, but I can't")

  • lol

  • lol thats probably the funniest comment ive read in awhile.

  • In the world Venomous Organisms

    Snakes are amateurs compared cubozoan

    jellyfishes.

  • "How are they dangerous?"

Are you serious? Cnidarian venom delivery system is far superior

and faster then anything any Chordate has.

A chironex "box jelly" can kill a human in three minutes.

The Toxin found in Palyzoa zoanthus`s mucus causes the blood cells to explode and inhibits the formation of enzymes necessary for all the cells in the body to stay alive.

  • "2nd actually

1st is a type of snake now "

    Not likely,

As there are other cnidaira which contain faster acting toxins then even chironex.

  • must be scary to stick your fingers in.

  • woot australia~!!!!!

  • Box jellyfish. So beautiful and so deadly. Hard to believe there's enough venom in just one kill countless people. What country are they from?

  • prob austraillia very rare for box jellys outside opf them

  • omg what river did u went in? where is it? just to be sure i NEVER get in xD

  • irukandji jellies?

  • "irukandji jellies? "

    Naw, not likely.

    Irukandji are even smaller.

and they seem to have only one tentacle per quadrant around the velum.

This seems closer on chironex, though it might not be exactly chironex.

  • are they like your pets or something if they are what do you feed them

  • what do u feed them

  • the box jellies get fed small fish

  • would u be able 2 see them when ur in an ocean that small? would they attack you?

  • actually the box jelly was in a fish bowl lol but they try to get away from peole but if accidenally bump into tem they will attack you and can grow up to 6 ft or more i did a report on them

  • No way..get out of here. Do you mean the tentacles grow to 6 ft or the body itself? S if I tap it, it will blow up?

  • can it still kill you even if its that small?

how the hell would u see it while ur in the ocean? isn't that a little dangrouse?

  • Yes it is chironex's venom is fast-acting and multi-purposed. It goes after the nervous system, heart and skin at the same time, in a multi-pronged attack of horror. Usually kills the victims within 4 minutes

  • dangerous yes, but they look really cool

  • After asking around, a couple of people have determined that it might be a Brazilian species known as Chiropsalmus quadrumanus. I will post more information as it comes available.

  • is there a dead one on the bottom of the bowl O.o

  • How Beautiful. Where abouts did you find these. It is a little hard to see but they look like they are a species of Tripedalia. Literally meaning three 'feet', as they have three lobes holding an individual tentacle off each corner (total of 12 tentacles for jellyfish). Originally described from Puerto Rico and Caribbean also found in Australia. Not actually dangerous, but best not to test this theory with any box jelly. Any more info would be cool. Ta!

  • What river did you find these in? they definitely look like Cubozoans so they could be a type of box jellyfish. Mind if I post this on a cnidarian discussion board and get a good ID?

  • Sure, as long as it is purely for ID purpose.

  • what the hll are you thinking jellyfish arent pets they are evil incarnate and should all be destoryed nasty filthy creatures

  • amen

  • omg dude are you frikin crazy that type of jelly fish can kill you,,,,, dats da irukanji jelly fish

  • ya those are box jellyfish

  • irukanji is a smaller form of box jelly but more deadly its most deadliest living creature and you also it's sting is more deadly than Cobra!!!

  • hay actualy the box jelly fish is a little more deadlier then the irukanji

  • Can we know what river you discovered these in?????

  • I don't think these are either irukandji nor chironex. Much too small to be chironex, as they are several feet long, and irukandji can't be contained except in specialized tanks, becuase if they bump into a wall they die. Also, unless you were protected, passing through a river full of either would kill you, 100%. And too others, irukandji are rarely fatal, just one of the most painful things in the world, and even the chironex doesn't kill you in 3 minutes, unless you touch all 10ft of it.

  • you know you are wrong about the irukandji they are ALWAYS! fatal and very dangerous! I saw that on tv (Animal Planet channel).

  • Um, no, learn what you sre talking about before posting. Irukandji are rarely fatal as I said before, but they're sting causes something known as irukandji syndrome. It's very painful, so much that it makes you wish the sting had killed you.

  • what river, may i ask..

    really interesting,

hope you released them back to their home

    science is power

  • i tough box jelly fish are 2.5 m long not 0.03 m long lol

  • touch it and u die in a few minutes ( more like seconds, 180 or so? ) u want to eat jellyfish go sakae sushi or japan, they make jellyfish sushi =P Jellyfish eats small fishes. They actually " digest " them. Try feeding ur jellyfish pets guppies xD. expensive but worth it. During the digestion process, it looks like there is a tissue paper in the bell xD the bell is the round squishy looking blob for ur info

  • omg... i wnat jellyfish!.. can they really live in a bowl like that?.. but omg thats sick.. box jellyfish in your house!!! i want some jellyfish.. idk.. is there any freshwater jellyfish?lol

  • yup there box jellyfish, but be carefull, in alot of cases -smaller- jellyfish can be more dangerous than larger jellyfish. Theres a jellyfish the size of your thumbnail that will kill you in about 30 seconds...you wont even know what hit you (litterly)

  • It's called the Irukanji. It is a smaller box jellyfish, it stings and the sting itself is almost painless. Not long later the vicitim will definitely feel the effects. An actual box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) has a sting that is beyond agony.

  • yea i wouldnt become to friendly with those things lolol but rlly they can kill you in a snap

  • I hear big ones can kill in 10 min. Can somebody confirm this please?

  • Big ones can kill in 180 seconds, around 3 minutes and under! let alone 10 minutes as you thought lol.

  • Those are irocangi. You made an important discovery

  • I think they're box's, Irakandji have 4 tentacles, one on each corner. These have 3 on each corner.

  • what do you feed these little shits

  • Alex, I believe they are found in the waters off Australia. Cool country and amazing, sometimes deadly, wildlife.

  • Looks like a chironex, all right. Box jellies are not true jellyfish; their optical and propulsion systems are different, for example. I think they're truly one of the scariest creatures on Earth. Totally transparent, virtually invisible in the torquoise waters, fast swimmers, and one brush against them could mean a quick death. Fortunately all you have to do is swim with your body covered with a suit made of sheer nylon material and you're safe, but how many folks actually do that?

  • you tight fucker.your even uglier.your mum told me

  • I had a truly petrifying encounter with one once where one followed me for half an hour. I got so tired I just gave up and let the blighter wrap its chops around my foot.

  • stop talking crap

  • where abouts were they found which country

  • There chironex fleckeri or austarlian box jelleyfish and the deadliest animals of the world. There not Irukandji imho , those were alot smaller , if u want to be really really sure they are box jellies , just put yur hand in the bowl :)

  • the music almost makes it sound.. Quasi-erotic

  • ooo they have a small body but a deadly bite!

  • they dont bite you idiot

  • yeah they do, on holiday i bumped into one and it chased me for a while and bit me on the bum, pretty painful too.

  • they sting you not bite you.you are thick!!!

  • oh they dont chase you.you got in the way of them.go on the internet and you will see that they sting not bite

  • Comment removed

  • Alex.....c'mon. That was uncalled for. Ok, I looked at your newer comments and sort of agreed with you but after reading this, I think you need to cut the tentacles. You don't call someone an idiot ESPECIALLY if they don't expect a comment in return. That ain't cool. You could have easily put a period after "bite". Sorry man, that's pretty sad. I sent you a reply 5 min. ago but I deleted it because I was a bit more "peeved" in that one.

  • if they live in freshwater, can they get into the filter? o.o question.

  • FOOL those are chironex fleckeri , u can death really easily

  • But I don't want to death! XD

  • lmao. Seriously, best comment I've seen all day. ^_^

  • Are these not Irukandji jellyfish? Relative of the Box jellyfish.

  • reminds me of Carukia barnesi.

  • lions and jellyfish are my favorite animals jellyfish have no brain no heart and no blood they are so cool

  • They are similar to highly evolved moving fungi. It is like a giant versin of a bacteria. Hah.

  • they are beautiful and amazing, and peaceful but are very dangerous

  • Thats why they are so dangerous. Besides their poison you can't see them!

  • Yikes, those look like box jellies.

  • i want to put a jellyfish in my mouth and chew it as a gum for so long!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SHIT I SAW ONE AT THIS BEACH PARK MY COUSIN SMASHED IT!! Then we saw one in the water and was gonna touch it but didnt last time we caught one in A cup and named it asshole :D

    and then we smashed it

  • How do you smash a box jelly fish without getting stung?

  • steped on it with a shoe on

  • A box jellyfish the size of a thumbnail and kill you.

  • they cn cause death? i cant believe

  • yes they can.
