the sights meet up in a certain point with the barrel line, that's why there's a difference when shooting far or near targets with the same adjustment. the bullets can go either way to up, or way to down depending on the way your rifle was set in the factory :)
you need to remove the whole front sight, which is called the front sight gas block. You'll need to replace it with another gas block that has the picatinny railings. After all this is when you can mount one of these flip up sights.
The sight riser/ gas block on a standard sight system are held in place by 2 tapered pins typically. If the gun is equipped with a muzzle brake, flash suppressor or compensator it will require removal prior to removing the front sight riser/gas block. The pins are driven in from the right side (muzzle facing away) and can be removed with a proper cup point punch and 12 ounce ball peen hammer by driving them back to the right and out.
The front sight is designed to be used with a Picatinny rail gas block and most are installed with locking set screws to ease installation. The gas tube will require removal from the old gas block by driving out the 1/16 inch roll pin that secures it in the gas block. The gas tube can be reinstalled on the new gas block by using the 1/16 inch roll pin unless it has been damaged.
