Appaloosa is a great movie. Viggo and the character of the "8 gauge" are very well played. The only thing I didnt like about the movie was the casting of Renee Zellweger.
I absolutely loved the gunfight scene way late in "Appaloosa" The way Viggo's character turns to provide the slimmest possible target to his opponent. I'm sure anyone who lived and had to fight that way in those days whould do just that {if they were smart }
VIGGO, you lovely MAN, you are my HERO, and like your character Hitch, I would love to blast some real political scum off the face of this earth. You are my inspirtation VIGGO !!!!!!!!!!
This film reminds me a bit of 'Crazy Heart'. It's all about the acting. Not to say that there isn't some great cinematography, etc. It moves slowly, like life. The acting makes it or breaks it.... Just because I like to watch film doesn't mean I know anything about making it. It feels that way to me.
My dad knows Viggo's dad because Viggo's dad bought a car from my dad and my dad asked Viggo (him and his dad have the same name) if he could get Viggo's autograph for me and he said sure thing and I got it and I am supposed to go to his ranch in Montana over the summer. His dad owns a like deer ranch thingy and I went there and it was fun! But my dad told me that he was retiring. :[ My mom likes him and I'm gonna try and set them up. Hope it works!

I just love Viggo. Period. History of Violence. Eastern Promises.. Wow!.....now, The Road!......I hope he goes up for best actor again.. and gets it!!. He's a poet. muscian, publisher, a painter, a photogrpher...on and on.. and .politcaly active too.. sooo cool....Love you Viggo! You are such a MAN! and a sweet human being.
I swear to god man, I saw Mortensen in History of violence and I knew he could win an academy award if he has more lines to say. This is the most underrated western of all times.
Me encanta Vigo pero casi todo lo que hay de él es en Inglés y me quedo a dos velas, voy a tener que apuntarme a una academia, ja,ja! habrá que ver la peli.Un abrazo a Viggo desde Jaén.
Viggo is really hot in the movie, cool boots, red bandana, etc. but the movie is pretty boring. Renee is severely miscast and Ed harris' character doesnt really ring true. Also pg rating is pretty tame, I think it was the violence, since sex is pretty nonexistant.
I don't know where or when you saw it but I caught it in the theater Oct 12th and it was definitely RATED R.
And it was definitely awesome, I'd even say amazing. Some might say it has similar themes with other westerns, but the way Appaloosa fleshes it out is all its own.
It's just extremely well done IMO. The acting, relationships, humor, cinematography, sets. Seemed like a very real, human tale of what could've taken place in parts of the wild west.
I stand corrected, it was R. Too bad it wasn't Viggo frolicking in the stream. Actually this is Harris' 2nd time as director. He directed and starred in the far superior "Pollock" several years ago. Check it out.
It was all in the last 15 minutes man, too bad, you didnt like it because thats how all classic western movies unfold. '3-10 to yuma' for example - in the last few minutes or the last 15 minutes in this case.

I thought she was all wrong for the part.

Wow, he doesn't look or sound anything like Aragorn any more. Maybe it's because he's older or something.

Viggo is always kick ass in every movie that I've seen with him cast. This one was great too...although I'm not a big Ed Harris fan.

Viggo Mortensen is one of my favorite actors now. The lines he had in this movie were better than any he had delivered before.
Renee Zellwegger's style of acting was perfect for her role.
Jeremy Irons is an amazing true to life villain.
