I've been told by my teacher about Miriam Makeba, so I've been searching for her songs, now I felt in love with her voice, I'm sorry I missed to knew about her when she was alive
@bluesyjazzyrocky . I also don't understand the language, love the song, but I remember being told that its about...mothers sing to their babies telling them that everything is ok, the lion has gone to sleep, so you should also sleep...
i love this cut, i am learning to play the bass line on elastic bands strung between my fingers and invite any sexy African females to approach me to sing

I was only 8 when I first heard this song - my dad's favourite then, I have never heard another to match it and coupled with the memories it brings to me, its one of my best. Miriam Makeba Lives on!
There are more variations of this songs than can ever be counted but there is only one Miriam Makeba !!! ..... Your legacy lives on.....Rest In Peace my Sister.... Blessings and peace in all things.. Rick :~)
this song is so beautiful it almost makes me wanna cry. It's amazing how music has helped us get through all of the abuse we've suffered for the past 500 years. Thank you God for giving us the strength as a people!
you take me back to 1966 when my mother would put your 33 on the stereo console and dance with me and my sister around the livingroom. i learned my first 'foreign' language from you. thank you, ms makeba for you.
DrKlassick17, how funny! What something means "in African?" Ahahah. Do you want a translation to "European" or to "American"? For your information the only Bantu group of languages has at least 10 different languages (as different as German and Dutch or English), including Macua, Swahili, Zulu, etc. Not mention the Arabic, Amharic and others which are also "African". See how stupid was your question?
Amazing gift she was to us all I am grateful to have heard her wonderful voice thankyou Miriam Makeba for sharing your beautiful song, music & culture with us Arohamai form some of your fan's in New Zealand who like many others will Forever love you xoxoxox
She has gone to join her daughter who went to heaven about 2 decades before her. She must beso happy up there- with her baby. May the lord have prepared her a comfortable place in heaven. I love her and I am crying whilst writing this....but at least i know when it's my turn i will get to see my cousin, my bibi and mama Africa. God Bless Africa and everyone that fought against apartheid, and everyone who is fighting any form of apartheid today. One love to all!
A. TKRA
