Radiation isn't the prime danger, if it is you are dead (and just about vaporized at that) anyway. It is the storm-like effects and all kinds of flying objects that are far more likely to harm anyone it its path. Next comes the fall-out: radiated particles that will cause burns and radiation sickness.
