  • Jesus!! Could you be an further away!!??

  • Never been a fan of the Yankees, but what a classy, classy act by the fans there.

  • I was at that game.

  • GOT 2 BE IN 2001

  • new york fans are tough on their opponents. when it comes to recognising greatness even if that player is foe they always give anyone great their due. those are true fans in yankee stadium that night. i love to hate the yankees but that night during that scene i liked you for 1:03

  • I believe I was at this game. It was supposed to be the last game of his career, but then 9/11 happened and the season got pushed back a week.

  • Class act, all the way. I actually remember going up to the new Yankee stadium last year, as an Orioles fan, and I was on the subway wearing my O's gear. A few stops as I was heading uptown, a Yankees fan gets on the train. What does he do? Does he start giving me grief for wearing O's stuff? No. He talks to me about Baseball, and great shortstops. We talked the entire ride about Jeter and Ripken. That was a great memory of that trip.

  • @mattstengel yes, not all of us Yankee fans are a-holes hahaha

  • You can tell how Cal Ripken was very special to baseball, He gets an standing ovation from the Yankees Fan!!!! Actually, his last season, every ballpark he visited, he got a very good reception and standing ovation. He's the greatest!!!!

  • Still amazing. A great move by a great fan base in a great stadium. (and that's coming from an O's fan.)

  • y would u say honus wagner is the best shortstop

    1. u never saw him play

    2. baseball is more competetive now then it was in 1910

  • Clueless people look at the back of baseball cards.. George Bell hit 47 HR's in 87(he hit 31 the year before and in the 20's season before that..) look at almost every power hitting all-star from 1984 on.. there stats rise from 20 Homeruns into the 40's.. roids.... ripken = clean.

He's run thousands of anti steroid camps for young kids.. hes what baseball players should be on and off the field. People who say where are the mega numbers dont know fuck all about baseball.

  • @Shredboy1 I got the chance to go to his camp in Maryland and you are right we got some one on one time with him and you could tell he was a really nice guy and not just because he is getting paid to be there but you could tell that he really wanted to help all of the kids out. Great guy on and off the field.

  • @Shredboy1 take it easy man roids have been in sports since the 60's and i can guarantee you 90% of profesional athletes have taken roids in some way shape or form atleast for a couple cycles in their lifetime, its inevitable. hr's have also gone up because of advancements of strength and conditioning better bats more aerodynamic balls, smaller ball parks. dont take away the hardwork of athletes by jus saying its roids

  • Toronto Blue Jays fan here. I hate the Yankees with all my heart, but I will give credit where it is due. Say what you want about them, Yankee's fans are among the most knowledgeable fans in any sport. This was a very classy move by the faithful at Yankee stadium. Well done as always New York.

  • Well thank you

If I was there, I would've done the same thing

  • Thats real baseball right there!

It doesnt matter who you root for you give the man the ovation for what he has accomplished and outta respect for what he did on the field, off the field and what he did for the game overall.

  • Why is it people speak of Cal like he is a demi-god ?

Look at his numbers, BA .276, OBP.356 SLG .465,

Sure has 3,000 hits and 400+ homeruns which are pretty good but it took one of the longest careers in baseball to do it.

There are plenty other great players throughout history of Baseball but Cal is talked about like he was a saint.

Am I just not drinking from the same Kool Aid you guys do ??

  • look up Lou Gehrig and see what amazing player is. His numbers were like Albert Pujols of today but slightly better.

The streak really only has significance because Lou Gehrig name is attached to it. Gehrig had to stop playing at 35, had he not had ALS, Cal never would have been able to break that record. And another thing when Gehrig was examined for his illness X-rays reveal he had several Fractures during his playing years and never said a thing about it. Can Cal say the same ?

  • Hey Haters, he's the only player to have the nickname The Iron Man for a good reason, he DID have allot of minor injuries and continued to play. Keeping urself safe is only helping your team.

    19 consecutive all star games...

Ripken is considered one of the best shortstops and third basemen to ever play the game. When inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, Cal had the third highest voting percentage (98.53%) in Hall of Fame history. Cus hes awesome...

  • I have a question you ever notice how many SB he had in his career, 36. What does that tell you ?

Tells me he lacked speed. And if he didn't have position on a ball and it was hit hard he wouldn't be able to get to that ball to make a play. There is a realize fast players play SS.Cal was thirdbase man playing SS.

Cal is a HOF but not worthy of third most votes ever, just proves people overrated him. Look at his numbers .276 hitter,OBP.356 SLG .465 not worthy of 3rd most votes

  • look up Cal's last 10 years, only hit 20+ homeruns twice. Nothing HOF about that.

He gets HOF because of the first half of his career and career totals, every one who knows baseball knows he was playing those last year mostly padding his career totals.

OF the last several ALL STARS most of theose last years were FANS not performance earned was a thirdbase when he broke into the major and WEAVER put him at short unlike most people believe RIPKEN pioneered BIG People to Shortstop position.

  • @Tampa370 1994 was a strike shortened season in which he hit 13, and in 99 and 2000 he hit 18 and 15 respectively in 2 half seasons(hit .340 in 99).. not bad production for a guy who retired after 2001 even late in his career. 8 Silver slugger awards at any position is jaw dropping.

  • You have to be nuts... look at all the numbers in the mid 80's rise to unreal sort of stats.. he was one of the few not taking roids.. look at his career numbers.. they stay the same for the most part.

  • he primary played shortstop man. Those are fantastic numbers from that position.

  • as a die-hard Orioles fan, Class moment, Yankees fan! Thanks! :)

  • not too many visiting players get an ovation like that in YS...

  • Yeah If it were Jeter's last at bat or Mariano's final game at Camden Yards I would give them a standing ovation as well.

  • when jeter and mariano become cal. maybe we will here in baltimore give them a standing ovation in their final game after playing 21 years in mlb. like either will last that long. go luck jeter and mariano. i will be waiting

  • Only thing is, Mariano is the greatest closer ever. Ripken is not the greatest shortstop ever (neither is Jeter of course), that would go to Honus Wagner

  • Cal was my role model growing up. The O's are sad now bc of shitty owners like Peter Angelos is a dumbass and a crook

  • Orioles a sorry ass team, in the 80's when Ripken started his career they had the highest winning % in that decade.. they remain the only team to have 4 starting pitchers win 20 games in the same season.. they just became the first team to have 4 rookies all win their debut in the same season.. and ask anyone who knows baseball they are one of the best franchises ever.. they jsut have a poor manager now, thats why the losses have mounted up, read up on ur baseball history boys and girls

  • If this were the last at bat in his career, I would understand the ovation, but for his last at bat at a particular stadium?

That's a bit odd, but it was still nice of them anyway. I half-expected all those yankee fans to be booing.

  • He's one of the best to ever play the game. If it was Jeter's last at bat at Camden Yards, I'd stand

  • One of the best ever ? Sure HOF numbers for any position( not significantly great compare to other HOFer), but lets not forgot he was a BIG guy that put up numbers at a position held by much smaller men.

At his size, 6-4 or 6-5 he should have had much better hitting numbers. AROD is smaller and has much better power numbers. Cal was nothing more than a Chipper Jones playing shortstop.

Really shouldn't be label as one of the best, Tony Gywnn with with BA or Pujol is more true Baseball talent.

  • Did you know Ripken having one of the longest careers in baseball and on base as much as any one else only stole 36 bases in his career ! Caught trying to steal 39 times.

There is a reason he didn't steal bases, he was slow. Also look at his GDP numbers-- most all time.

  • Look at Hanley Ramirez, he has stolen 50 bases twice in his short career and even Sandberg stole 50 bases once.

Cal Ripken was a big, slow man who played shortstop and had enough numbers so people took notice.

Nothing really special about a big man putting up good numbers compare to smaller men.

Oh, yeah look at Chipper Jones OBP And SLG its better than Ripken.

Actually Ripken had only two 20+ HR years after age of 31, his streak with all those games just padded his number.

  • Though not a flashy fielder, Ripken displayed excellent fundamentals, and studied batters and even his own pitching staff so he could position himself to compensate for his lack of physical speed, even calling pitches at times.>>>

Here what people like to say about Ripken lack of speed. He knew where the ball was going be hit so he didn't need speed. BS

And if he didn't position himself well, then what ? He didn't have the speed to get to those balls and they were base hits.

  • oh and not to mention if it were for cal "breaking the mold" arod wouldnt even been given a chance at shortstop to begin with and i know he now plays 3rd but you know what i mean

  • all of this is pretty funny to me cal played in 2632 games in a row arod dont even play for a week straight. come to think of it its the first week of the season where is arod at home on the coutch shooting up give me a break cal is 10 times the player arod will ever be no matter who he plays for

  • WOW EARNHARDT YOU ARE GAY!!! you stand 4 nothing baseball is more than a game its americas pastime cal is not phony cal ripken did not play for a sorry ass team excuse me if winning a world series makes them bad recently they havent been so hot but thats why u like a team for respect and honor not cuz they win world series unless ur a fagget who is a bandwagon fan soshut tha fuck up

  • It is illegal to take steroids and play a professional sport dumbass. Why do you think there are supsensions and penalties for taking them? You don't learn that watching NASCAR

  • It wasn't when A-Rod did it dumbass. I'm not sure what NASCAR has to do with baseball, but I'm betting it's a Baltimore thing. You guys aren't the brightest around. After all, you're idea of sending a message is paying for a ticket then leaving during the game, when in reality, nobody wants to see the O's anyway, not even the owner.

  • I'm saying stick to watching NASCAR, because youre an idiot. You say the ones that take steroids are the best. I would sure hope so otherwise theyre worthless and cheating cant even help them improve. You need to learn to respect the baseball greats. Guys who are in the hall of fame for the love of baseball, not cheating and hitting 500 homeruns, but simply showing up to work everyday 2,632 to be exact. You don't get that durability taking steroids.

  • Nope, you get it by closing Camden yards whenever you get in legal trouble. Such respect. Maybe if Cal had done steroids A-Rod wouldn't have surpassed him so quickly.

  • Technically, the major leagues banned the use of steroids around 1990. So yes A-Rod cheated. Do I expect you to know a sufficient amount of history? Nah not really.

  • technically, the substance he used wasn't banned until 2004. He tested positive in 2003. 2003 comes before 2004, so, he really didn't cheat.

  • Okay so then im inclined to ask on why he felt the need to constantly lie about the usage?

I'm sure the shit hes in now would have been a lot easier had he just come clean about it in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, or 2009.

He chose to lie, the man has no morals plays for money not because he loves the game. Not exactly someone I would be rooting for. But thats just my personal opinion, you can like whoever you want to.

    To each their own.

  • Not in the slightest, I love players like Jeter and Rivera, and most other historical Yankee players.

You assume too much just because I dislike one man doesn't mean I hate the team. Sure I'm not a fan but I give respect where respect is due.

How is Cal's record phony? You've got me curious now. And the Orioles started becoming a sorry ass team around the time Angelos bought the franchise. I expect a rebuttal.

  • haha thats actually pretty funny ... that strike screwed up the o's season majorly ... they were lookin good that year.

  • And I would have never of known if Skip Bayless hadn't brought it up.

  • You are so uneducated in the game of baseball its not even funny. Jesus.

    Go read a book.

  • You are a liar, nuff said.

  • that earnhadt queer has his favorites list full of wrestling videos, so clearly he doesnt know anything about real sports. Ignore him.

  • A-Rod, since the steriod scandel, will never, ever be, comparable to Ripken, Considering, Ripken NEVER USED HGH OR ANY TYPE OF STERIOIDS.

  • You don't know that, do you. Don't forget not too long ago just how many guys were thought to be innocent. But either way, steroids aren't bad. Ever notice the guys who use them are the best?

  • Steroids are illegal and it's cheating numb nuts. It's going to end up causing some of the "best" players to be in the hall of fame

  • Illegal? They sell that shit at GNC numb nuts. That's exactly what I'd expect an Orioles fan to say.

  • I meant Cal showed hustle, sorry for the typo

  • The greatest player of all time and did it without the use of steroids

  • Classy, it doesn't matter what fan you are, he did a lot more for the sport than anyone had in a long time. He made me proud to be a baseball fan.

  • Those are good seats. It's better to be high cause you can see the field better!

  • not to mention you're a lot safer xD

  • greatest legend ever and his record will NEVER be broken

  • shut up retard. you cant call the greatest shortstop ever overrated

  • I'm not, I'm calling Cal Ripken overrated.

  • your overrated!!

  • look i met cal once he is a very nice guy you just have no respect for a legend who is not overrated

  • Are you drunk? Try playing shortstop on a hot sunday afternoon just once, and see if you can go to work the next day. Then, try doing it almost 20 years straight, 162 games a year, dickhead.

  • Wow, way to reply to me a month later fucktard. I'm pretty sure standing on the field 9 times a day for 20 minutes a time wouldn't kill me. In fact, I would not only go to work the next day, I would probably still work out and whatever else I wanted to do. I can't respect a guy with a faulty record that believes his own bullshit.

  • A faulty record? I think you represent maybe .00001% of the population that believes that way. Do you idolize someone like, say, Buddy Biancalana?

You're also forgetting that Ripken, as well as all other major leaguers, practice almost EVERY day for hours; their bodies withstand more than your ever would down at Charlies Bodyshop &/or gas station.

  • I don't care what percentage I represent because it's the right percentage. I work out everyday it's it's a lot more rigorous than what baseball players do, mostly because it doesn't involve a needle. And you shouldn't insult Charlie's body shop, I like working there. I just hate having to clean all of the Cal Ripken off of the toilets.

  • Faulty record? what the fuck does that mean? who the fuck are you?

  • Get the fuck over it. I posted that months ago. Talk to somebody that gives a shit.

  • Cal Ripken Jr. is the greatest man to ever walk the face of this earth. Do your research.

  • Well, I researched him. He's a douche bag. That is all.

  • Are you gonna start defending NASCAR?

  • Why would I?

  • Listen you dim-witted stupid prick! Cal Ripken outclasses A-Roid in every sense of the word. I'm a Red Sox fan and I respect the guy. Hey earnhardt316, (Nice Steve Austin reference by the way), Do you even bother checking facts before making yourself looking like a douchebag?

  • A-Rod was better in every aspect of the position. Steroids were legal, therefore he did not cheat. Cheating is when the streak is going to end so they close Camden yards so the game will be cancelled. That's cheating.

  • A-Rod is the most overatted ball player in the game. And exactly what do mean, the closed camden yards so the game would be cancelled?

  • A-Rod is the only SS to ever hit more than 50 HR's in a season. And if you don't know the game cancelling story, just google it. It shouldn't be hard to find.

  • Ok I found it and thats hardly cheating. I hardly doubt that A-roid will ever match Cal in regards to integrity, and passion for the game. He can have all the numbers, but Cal should hustle, and thats something that doesnt show up in a box score

  • I know what you meant. How is it not cheating? The streak was going to end so they cancelled the game. Atleast A-Rod admitted, Cal Foreskin just denies and pretends he's great. If it weren't for third base, A-Rod would demolish all of his numbers. In fact, he still will.

  • As long as A-fraud's name is linked to steriods, his stats will always one of these...* and his image is allready tarnished.

  • Who cares about image. It's all about numbers, and he has them. And the only *-Maybe the greatest EVER. He's already surpassed Cal, and you know it hurts.

  • I hardly think he's passed Cal and its more than about numbers. Numbers dont tell the whole story. Truth be told I'm a Red Sox fan but Cal is an honorary member of the Nation . how many rings does A-fraud have? answer :none He chokes in the playoffs.

  • Really? How much playoff success di Ripken have? And when it's said and done, A-Rod will hold more records than Cal. He already has more mvp titles, HR's, and Gold Gloves. If he retired today, he'd already of had a better career, no matter what corny name you call him.

  • Unlike A-Fraud, Cal didn't use banned substances because he felt like he had to live up to a big contract and then lied about it all. Jose Conseco was right about Alex and when his career his done, he'll never get the respect and accolades that Cal Ripken Jr. still gets to this day.

  • A-Rod didn't use any banned substances. They were all legal. And who cares about accolades? The numbers will say A-Rod is the greatest ever, and no ignorant fan can ever take that away.

  • The headlines in the last 2 weeks, A-Fraud has already come out and admitted to using a banned substance. He just won't say which substance it was. Barry Bonds has only gone as far to say that he has had steroids in his system unknowing to him. And just so I can keep you abreast of current affairs, A-Fraud now has to come before congress for obstruction of justice for lying. And as far as fans here only going with who the media likes, Derek Jeter is the biggest media darling in all of baseball.

  • What does that have to do with Cal? A-Rod is still greater. Besides, I bet you couldn't name ten guys that didn't take 'roids. It's more used than you think. But because A-Rod is maybe the best ever, he gets the attention.

  • First you said Alex didn't use a banned substance, now you're trying to justify his use by saying that there were more people using than I think.

Yes, this is about Cal and that he is one of the 10 guys that I could name that didn't take steroids. Funny how you ask what it has to do with Cal. You're a Cal Ripken video commenting on how much better Alex is. You must be more interested in Ripken than you lead on.

  • First of all, Alex didn't use a banned substance, as it wasn't banned when he used it. Second, A-Rod is relevant because, believe it or not, he actually use to play short stop. As far as Ripken, I am very interested, as I often wonder if he buys into his own "Ironman" bullshit.

  • I beleive Cal won a title in 83 with baltimore, a team mind you he stayed with his entire career. Baseball is a team game the last time i checked

  • Yes it is, but when you're offered $250 million, it tends to help change your mind. I guess Cal wouldn't know what its like to be the best, would he?

  • Yeah money changes loyalties doesnt it? the mere fact that A-roid used a substance that he knbew was wrong, takes away a ton of credibility. But as you said, credibility doesnt matter as long as the "numbers" are there. Cal is allready the best and makes A-fraud looks like the loser he is. Let me ask you a question. Are you an A-Rod fan, A yankee fan, or a flavor of the moment fan?

  • I'm a Yankee fan, and an A-Rod fan. I've always liked him. I liked Barry Bonds. And they may have contraversy, but no one can deny their greatness. You like who ever the media wants you too.

  • I like who I WANT to like. I grew up on the Red Sox. Barry Bonds? Do NOT get me started on that clown. Greatness? Please. Carl Yazstremski puts any Yankee, both past and present to shame. End of story. Oh hey one more thing remember 2004? Seeing as how youre a yankee fan and all. A-roid couldnt lace Big Pappi's cleets

  • Funyy how you bring up big papi, because the trainer linked to giving A-Rod steroids was also linked to Ortiz. We have more hall of famers than you have all stars. And I do remember 2004, as well as the other 26 years we won the title. I now see what you are, a jealous dead sox fan. You don't hate A-Rod, you hate his uniform. You'd suck his dick if you could.

  • That was so adult of you. I would take our titles over your 26 any day of the week. The Sox won them with CLASS, something the Yankees know nothing about. The fact that Red sox nation tore down the house that ruth built, burns inside you doesnt it? The fact that the yankees choked, burns inside your brain (if you even have one) every day. Tell Jeter Red Sox nation said hello

  • That's a Red Sox fan for you, thinking 2>26. I think it's fucking hilarious that you were losing the Cal argument so you switch subjects. You bring up Yankee Stadium to try and anger me, when really you're disguising the fact that you don't have shit to say.

  • I allready won the Cal argument. anyway in 2004, The Red Sox, down 3-0 in the ALCS, handed the the Yanks their WORSE ever playoff loss I'm sure Babe Ruth was rolling in his grave. Ask anyone about Cal, and they will tell you, Cal had more class in his pinky than A-blob had in is whole body

  • Wow, right back to changing the subject. Maybe you're mad because Cal would be the greatest SS to ever play in Boston had he been a Red Cock, but wouldn't even make the depth chart on our team. Sad, isn't it? Keep bringing up the Yanks, you're just looking retarded, like an overrated shortstop, per say.

  • Please Cal, would make Rizzuto look like a minor leager. Oh and it's spelled "per se". I can talk about whatever subject you wish to bring up because I, and Red Sox Nation, know that the yankee fans have NOTHING on us. One number brings you to your knees...2004

  • The only thing that brings me to my knees is brazillian women, I could care less for the Red Sox. Nobody liked them until 2004, so atleast I'm a real fan. As far as mispells: you mispelled already, cleats, and a few others, so don't talk shit about grammar. But thank you for refusing the original subject. You truly have no argument left.

  • I've always been a real fan since I started watching baseball in 1984. Unlike some people, I'm not a fair weather fan. I've ALWAYS loved the Sox, Bruins, Pats,Celtics, BC BU and my alma mater Holy Cross As far as your original subject, feel free to agrue, but rest assured you will lose

  • I've already won. You're not talking Cal Ripken anymore, so you're done. Now I'm just having some fun trying to piss you off.

  • Cal is the ultimate Iron Man and as far as "pissing me off", you'll have to do wayyyyyyyy better than that my friend. Ten guys who didnt take roids huh? 1. Carl Yazstremski.2. Ted Williams.3. Cal ripken.4. Gary Carter.5. steve Garvey 6. Matt Treanor 7. jim rice 8. Dwight evans 9. Wade Boggs 10. Roger Maris ( i can name many more if you wish)

  • I was talking modern day players. And how do you know Cal didn't do 'roids? His wife said he could be abusive. Sounds like 'roid rage. Besides, most of that list sucked. Maybe steroids aren't that bad.

  • Oh my god it "sounds like roid rage"? And all of who I mentioned would make A-roid look like garbage.(OH I wish a speedy recovery to Alex from his"hip" problem) Modern Day huh? Matt Treanor, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkillis, Jason Bay, Mike Piazza, Jason Variteck...shall I go on? Or do you want to be looked upon as an idiot on this thread?

  • Youkillis, Pedroia, and Varitek work out with Ortiz, who is on 'roids. It's feasable to think they shot up to. Besides, they'd be lucky if A-Rod let them lick his cup clean.

  • A-fraud couldnt lace up Ortiz's, Ripken's youkillis's, Variteck's or Pedroia's cleets. Maybe he should back to his cousin for more juice to speed up his recovery. whether they were illegal at the time or not, its still cheating, end of story. He knew better and anyone who doesnt think so is fooling themselves

  • Ortiz and Variteck are older, and he has more HR's than both of them. Same for Ripken. You can hate all you want, you can't diminish his skill.

  • I'm not diminishing his skills at all...but Ortiz and Variteck have something that A-Rod and his numbers can never have....class

  • those fucking cockfags! right in front of you! how dare they not stand for Cal Ripken Jr., yankee fans.....no class

  • some are standing?

question, on derek jeter or a-rods last game at fenway, do you expect a standing o? I don't

  • well two things...they're red sox players. and the other thing...hes Cal Ripken Jr. i mean c'mon.

despite my hatred for the yankees, i would be standing for jeter.

  • Well by no means am I comparing Jeter to Cal, but wouldn't you be calling cockfags to Red Sox fans who wouldn't cheer for Jeter?

  • i think the true fans would show some respect. i dont think the majority would stand and cheer, but i dont think they would boo.

its a different situation tho, thats sox-yanks, the greatest rivalry in all of sports. this is Cal. i feel i should retract my statement about the lack of class, because almost everybody was on their feet. those few ppl prlly wernt baseball fans because if they were they would understand what cal meant to the game.

  • good post.....most the ones who aren't standing though are clapping however...at least thats a sign of respect

  • What?? You should be happy we're giving him an ovation! We never give love to opponents.

  • one of the few times I've had seen yankee fans show some class especially after seeing those idots on the Kirby Puckett video.

  • 7:21 PM EDT, May 31, 2008

After 36 years, it appears as if the city's name will make a return to the Orioles' road uniforms.

The Sun has learned that the Orioles are in the process of filing the required paperwork with Major League Baseball to add "Baltimore" to their road jerseys, replacing the nickname of the club that has adorned the away uniforms since 1973, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The uniform change would go into effect for the 2009 season.

  • i met cal ripken in my neighborhood today!!! he was in this nice as heck acura!!!

  • Cal is a true legend. Don't forget that he was A-Rod's rolemodel...

  • As a baltimore fan, who attended this game in full Orioles gear, I have to say that the fans were ___VERY___ polite and courteous. Of course, I'd never dare to wear that stuff again. I think they gave me a pass for that game. class act.

  • I'm wearing my Murray jersey there in July...hope I don't get any mustard stains on it.

  • I will give New York fans this.....They appreciate hard work and they have no problem kicking you down so they can build you up later. Look at Eli...jeez. Jeter will always be beloved but A-rod will never have a spot in Yankee lore until they win a world series with him.

  • Well that was solved this year wasn't it lol

  • As a Yankee fan, I will say they have the worst fans AND the best fans

when your team has the MOST fans, it makes sense on both parts

I wonder how the Red Sox fans will deal with someone like Derek Jeter on his final day at Fenway Park? I don't expect this kind of reaction Yankee fans gave Cal

  • I remember watching this on TV. Class act by the Yankees fans...you dont see too many opposing players get a standing O in the house that Ruth built.

  • when was this?

  • his final at bat at yankee stadium in 2001

  • did cal ripkinjr (who is my hero) get a standing ovation at yankees stadium?

  • cal was a great player and a true hall of famer

  • so u can relate right? go yanks!!

  • i give respect to cal but not to new york fuck new york

  • give ny a break....dont forget 9/11....we didnt deserve that shit.

  • i saw that game it was good

  • new york fans are some of the most intelligent fans in sports..they recognize and apreciate the magnitude of certain situations and this is clearly and example of it

  • shut up idiot, I hear half boos. you're probably some piece of shit yankees fan. what? you're only 6 games back? oh wait, it doesn't matter.

  • 5 games back in the East, and First in the WC fuckface,

  • im a yankees fan nd i get so cought up in the game its just nuts. one time i gave my friend yankee tickets for his b-day nd when he went 2 drunk guys got into a fight over the ball game. lol. there was like security nd everything it was so funny.

  • i hate the yankees because i grew up in baltimore but, they have the decency to respect a great player like cal even though they have plenty of great players of their own

  • ya i thought this was about cal not egos...

  • real weird seeing yankee fans do this. ive lived in new york all my life and yankee fans are just pathetic. without a doubt the worst fans in any sports a lot of fights get formeda lot of profanity and plus look yankee stadium is in a bad neighborhood. that was funny though when joe torre got mugged by some teenagers after a loss a few years ago.

  • gman66 ur right the stadium is in a bad neighborhood. I lived in nyc for 10 yrs but once u go to so many games u get so used to it its feels like its not even a bad neighborhood

  • Why are you people so caught up in your own egos? This was a tribute to a great player and nothing else. It was meant (I feel) to show the support and appreciation that people had for Cal Ripken. Why are you making it antyhing else but that?

Cal Ripkin was shown respect - Don't trash it with your ego.

  • As an oriole fan, and admittedly not much of a yanks fan if you know what i mean, this is verrrrrry classy of the fans there and the way the yanks org. honored him that day was also extremely classy and special.

  • great video...takes me back...

  • the fucking yankees suck. the main reasoning is because there is so much ego on the team. everyone wants to be the best player on the team. none of them are in it for the city of New York, and none of them are there for you. they only care about them selfs and the amount of money they put in there pocket. the yankees suck ass

  • u know what fuck u ass hole the yankees have the best history in major league baseball! 26 world series wins? ur saying they can do that when they only care about money? no i dont think so.

  • You should be giving the Red Sox a standing O' tonight b/c we own your asses, Biatch!

The Yankees are history - 10 1/2 games back. History will show the 21st century belongs to the Red Sox.

P.S. Red sox fans are more passionate and creative than Yankee morons. Enjoy your sucky team in 2007!

  • where were for the red sox for pretty much 100 yrs? where were they when the yankees won 3 straight world series's? nice 6 world series titles there red sox, u rock...not.

  • Keep living in the past pal. The 20th century is over, you haven't sniffed a title in 5 years. Enjoy the cellar and your 10 game deficit.

2004: biggest choke job in sports history. You'll never live that one down. We always have that one over you. Deal.

  • ok budy how many world series have you won? to be realistic yankees made red sox look like a AA squad.

  • wow 1 title since like the early 1900's....good job red sox u deserve to be the kings of the world cuz u won 1 world series

  • I'm a die hard Yankee fan AND a huge Cal Ripken Jr fan. Us Yankee fans arent nearly what other fans make us out to be. None of these people know from actual experience. Its all out of jealousy that the Yankees have a lot of money and a rich succesful history. Theres nothing wrong with giving a great player from another team a standing ovation. He deserved it.

  • At least they didn't do their pathetic little Yankee chant like:

"Caaal Ripken" *clap, clap, clap, clpa, clap* before the game until he acknowledges them.

Yankess fans are the worst - pathetic!

  • what the heck are you talking about? Do you think chants are unique to the Yankees? What do you suppose would be approriate? Go to a game in philly if you somehow think Yankee fans are bad, even though my money is that you probably havent been within 500 miles of yankee stadium. good job adding absolutely nothing to and otherwise inspiring video.

  • dude. come on. go to a yankee game and watch the people around you. it dosent matter what the team record is, or if the yankees are winning or losing, they're the most enthusiastic fans you can find.
