  • Great slide show!, and great talent. However its a bit depressing.

  • Another dynamite version -- not found on YouTube -- is the one by Rosemary Clooney.

  • I do not belive todays pop stars could perform at that level if their lives depended on it. There is no auto tune...just pure talent.

  • This is one of the best slide shows with a song ever. You are very good and your selection of pictures was perfect

  • This is awesome. At 1:28 an emo girl is blowing an ass shaped bubble to Ella Fitzgerald.

  • Cool,Thumbs up

  • *LOVE* good job. :)

  • Beautiful pictures, although not all relevant to the song. (Ballerina, eg.) Good job though. keep going.

  • Sorry ...but Nancy Wilson Steals this classic by a Long Shot ....Nuff said

  • I had the album this was on (Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Songbook) when I was a teenager. Nobody can sing this song like Ella Fitzgerald. What a great album it was. I can remember every note and inflection.

  • Perfection! Thank you Ella!

  • For me,don't think Porter intended this to be anything but a farce. Many of your images don't do it for me.No criticism intended.

  • Sorry, gottasing4you, but Ella's is the definitive version of this, and many other, songs. Midler ain't even in her league. Hell, Midler would jazz up the National Anthem. If Midler's is the best you can choose, please change your name and "gottasing" for someone else.

  • Ella - the world is a less joyful place to be without you, people like Ella take us all through life,

  • Thank you for this. Some mornings you wake up and realize . . . nobody sings but Ella Fitzgerald.

    CW

  • sailor and nmbookie - back in the 1930s a ruined woman was shunned by society. Miss Otis may have been rich, but her lover betrayed her and ruined her. So, she shot him in revenge. She was lynched for shooting her lover and for having sex outside of marriage. We have come a long way.

  • Great song. and the pictures went great with it, I thought.

I'm in marching band, and we play Bette Midler's version in our halftime show. I like the band arrangement but not how Bette sings it. Ella has a much better voice I think. five stars.

  • @PsychoticGeek23 - Check out Ethel Wate's version of it also.

  • this song is sung by jose feliciano on his album feliciano 10 to 23. his version is excellent, and the whole album is a classic.

  • Such a beautiful song!

  • there is a wonderful up beat version done by The Divine Miss M, Bette Midler!!! Its a jazzy tune, and it really puts this song into perspective and takes it to another level!!! Please find this version and listen to it. I dare you NOT to tap your toes, or snap your fingers!!!

  • If anyone has ever sung this (or almost any other song) better, please let me know.

Ella was the greatest there ever was, and likely ever will be. Ella and Cole is a superb team!

  • @foozledad Probably nothing better, but if you like this, for a dreamy calm moment, please find Dinah Shore's version of "April in Paris" with Andre Previn.

  • I don't know, maybe it is supposed to be humorous, but I've been looking over my shoulder ever since I heard Ella sing this ...

  • @nmbookie whats the song about? i just can't figure it out

  • Ella, you just cant beat her she was the best.

  • Nice slide show. You picked great images, and Ella Fitzgerald can't be beat.

    Thank you for posting it.

  • I love the Labelle version of this song. So moving!!

  • This is a beautiful version of this song! Thank you!

And I thought your video was wonderful!

  • What a beautiful song, but such a judicial travesty: any woman who says "Miss Otis Regrets she's unable to lunch today" just before being hanged has a great case for an insanity defense.

  • You are missing the humor, and this totally straight version is causing the problem. This song was Porter's joke on the mannered and class-ridden entertainment that Hollywood was producing in the 1930's. Check out Kirsten Macoll and Shane Macgowan's version for the Red Hot and Blue AIDS benefit in 1990 for a truer rendition.

  • Bryan Ferry?

In my opinion,he cannot sing this song.

Perhaps he should stick to his range.

  • Bryan Ferry could never reach what Ella has done here. There is such an ache in her subdued delivery; Such depth of regret in her utter restraint.

Bryan Ferry is a moody and interesting crooner.I met Mr. Ferry once, even kissed him. His masterpiece? The album "Avalon" and the song "More Than This," one of the most romantic pop songs I know.

But Ella Fitzgerald is unimitable; her songs, immortal. She set the bar for everybody else.

I would have given anything to have a drink with her!

  • ella what a voice check out jose feliciano singin the same beautiful

  • Great tune!!!

  • People, let's not forget the superb piano work here of the great Ellis Larkins, who accompanied Ella with divine delicacy on two albums.

  • Thanks I never knew his name :)

  • beautiful.

  • this lady has an instrument for a voice and can sing anything and take you on the journey with her

  • Love this song. :-)

  • This is as close to heaven as mortals can get before finally crossing over.

  • Bryan Ferry has made this song his own (in my humble opinion), though this is also a fantastic version.

  • This version kinda made me depressed.. ._. Bette Midler's version is so cheery & funny...oh well, both are great songs. =]

  • Great video for a great song.

  • Probablythe greatest female singer ever, and yet this track belongs, in my opinion, to Kirsty McColl.

  • Ella is, but my vote for best version of this song is Frances Fay

  • Absolutley!

  • just thought it's very creative video libras very creative! im a gemini to lol

  • the girl who made this vid must be a libra.

  • Why would you think that?

    I'm Gemini...

  • @Aurumina I'm Gemini so you stay strong and don't listen to others. Gemini stand Strong!

  • @streakyology What is that supposed to mean? o_o

    I'm a libra...

  • When she changes keys in the last "unable to lunch" line, it is simply heartstopping.

When I see links on the right to Streisand or others singing these songs, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Some songs belong to one singer--this one is Ella's.

  • Heartstopping is the perfect adjective to use for this totally brilliant song. Ella is just the best.

What a song, and what a story. I wonder if it`s based on fact.......Wonderful.

  • Midler, Streisland, etc. 5th rate warblers for the masses who thrive on mediocrity.

Ella was a different class, very few have ever come close to her beauty & brilliance.

Incidentally, I also like Jose Felicianos version of this track.

  • @yahwhous Ethel Waters sang this originally in the 1930s.

  • @yahwhous yeh, well, this one belongs to Ethel Waters, mate.

Tottaly agree on the Streisand links though.

  • @Abernis maybe, if by "belongs to" you mean Waters sang it earlier. If you mean Waters sang it better, don't make me laugh. Waters sounds like a school teacher reading a nursery rhyme; Ella makes music. One of these two ladies is considered among the greatest voices ever--and her name is not Ethel. Sorry, mate.

  • very good...

  • the best ever version

  • i love ella she has a vocie that is so pure and loving

  • How wonderful is Ella!! a velvet voice and effortless - wonderful.

  • pictures and music are not suibtable

but good slide show for the first;) keep working

  • What do you think would be more suitable?

  • I think the choice of pictures is highly suitable. Some of them are subtle, but perfectly appropriate ........... I liked the sepia tones with red. A bit like that red coat in Schindler's List. I just loved the song, never listened to it properly before. Thank you.

  • @Aurumina Music

  • I've never listened to Ella much before. Now I know what my Mum meant! Great pictures & slides too.

  • I'd forgotten how great this song, and this performance is...thanks.

  • Ella in a very special mood.....Listen.
