JUST MADE IT,,, In 1957 "Silhouettes'" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 11 weeks in the Top 100...
Two other covered version of this song have made the Top 10; Also in 1957 the group The Rays took it to No. 3 {this was the original version} and in 1965 Herman's Hermits topped out at No. 5....
One other version charted in 1957; a group called Steve Gibson and the Red Caps climbed to No. 63 with it...
@hah13 They DID make a living covering other groups' songs, and it's my guess the songwriters are very glad they did. The Diamonds are still performing, sounding terrific. I respect your preference for earlier versions, but The Diamonds were consummate pros, and can't be faulted for knowing a hit when they heard it.
I must say that compared to the Ray's version, this is pretty bad. I know the Diamonds are well known for doing covers on good doo-wop songs, and their cover of "Little Darlin" is actually pretty good. But this doesn't even come close to the Rays!
I agree with yall that vinyl sounds much better than digital. but i think digital sounds better than recording vinyl with a camcorder mic and playing it back.. I'm not dogging vid, just saying:) Thanks for posting.
What a rare recording. I love the original 78's, this is what it sounded like when it came out, thanks for posting this record. I like the pure stuff before digital!!!!!

@hah13
Well, they did a superb job of it though. BTW, LOTS of guys/girls and Groups covered other people's songs...like Frankie Lymon, for instance.

I just did and it's brilliant. He really gives The Rays a run for their money. He was a legend. R.I.P.

You are so right.
Don't fret though, young are hearing real music via Ytube.
God bless you.

This is a really great song. "Silhouettes" was written by Paul Anka. Today music cannot beat this. Kids need to learn a golden age song like this.
jazzalex22 3 years ago
I though it was written by the Rays?
antzam614 2 years ago
It definitely wasn't written by Paul Anka anyway, although he did a remake of it in the late '60's.

No modern technology can compare to the sound you get from a vinyl.
