  • obviously a jedi

  • he sounds like zach galifinakis a bit

  • I want one.

  • fucken magnets, how do they work?

  • vsauce sent me....

  • Eddy currents also known as Foucault currents...basically, as the magnets fall, the copper tube becomes a generator and an electromagnet at the same time; the magnet moving by makes the copper tube generate electricity which essentially turns the pipe into an electromagnet which the attracts the magnet as it's falling down. As the magnet slows down, it also reduces the amount of electricity it generates which in turn reduces the attraction...and so on...

aluminum braking is another good example

  • Where can you buy one a Type K Neodymium magnet?

  • What would happen if you attached all those magnets to a person, and they went through a larger copper pipe? Would they float?

  • @Reid1Reid1 they would fall slower than normal that is all

  • I wish he would have dropped it once outside of the tube so we could see the difference

  • @rainbowsandjessies Never seen anything fall before?

  • Epicness level: Maximum

  • what kind of black magic is this? o_O

  • i was reading a book about anti gravity, it was imposible to put down

  • dat logic

  • how elevator safety systems work

  • troll science?

  • Now supercool it!

  • Is heat generated in the pipe or magnet?

  • The magnet moving through the pipe induces a current causing the pipe to become a weak electromagnet, thus lightly attracting the magnet and slowing it's descent. When the magnetic field stops moving, the current stops, and thus the pipe stops being an electromagnet.

  • Someone report this bug to god

  • 45 seconds of my life i won't get back

  • @PhantomOdin130 Fuck off..

  • @kikook222 anger management

  • Fucking magnets, how do they work?

  • MIND BLOWN

  • when u throw it in the inside of the pipe.. does it feel heavier?

  • Are you some kind of wizard?

  • Suit made of magnets + Huge copper tube = Low gravity slide!?!

  • awesome way to power elavators

  • How old are you? That was my 3rd grade Science project.

  • I wonder what the feasibility would be for a relatively cheap method for atmospheric re-entry...

  • DAMN YOU, PHYSICS!

  • I remember my HS physics teacher showing me this. It blew my mind then and still does now.

  • the movement of the magnet reminds me of the TARDIS spinning through space!

  • definitely very cool.

  • High school physics. Look it up on wikipedia, it's shameful how few people are blown away by this.

  • What a great demonstration of Lenz's Law! An induced electromotive force (emf) always gives rise to a current whose magnetic field opposes the original change in magnetic flux.

As the magnet moves through the copper pipe, an excellent conductor of electricity, it induces a current in the pipe creating magnetic field that opposes the movement of the magnet down the pipe. Since it is not a perfect conductor of electricity, the magnet slowly falls through the pipe instead being completely stoppped

  • WHAT WIZARDRY IS THIS?!

  • What happens if you move the pipe down (or up!) as the magnet is falling? Would moving it up cause the magnet to fall even slower? We did Lenz's law in Physics.... but I'd quite like to a video of suggestion

  • @TuneMaestro Yes, if you moved the pipe up fast enough, you could hold the magnet in a fixed position. That would be a fun demo for sure. Another fun one would be to suspend the magnet on a string and release the pipe with the magnet inside. Then the pipe would drop at a freaky slow speed.

The ultimate would be to try a high temp superconducting pipe!

  • @ZachreyCA You sir, have some great ideas!!

  • I saw this in physichs class lawl

  • AWESOME!

  • anti gravity my ass. Eddy current. nuff said

  • @jimday666 if you pay attention you will notice that he mentions eddy currents both in the video and the description.

  • @styx85 yes. eddy current. that's what I said, not bullshit anti-gravity.

  • Try this with some silicon steel if you can find it, its the stuff used in generators to boost the generator current by harnessing the current fields. Its non-magnetic too, but should create even stronger eddy currents, it might be fun to put silicon steel outside the copper pipe too.

  • where's my hoverboard!

  • Does this mean a small enough "Neodymium Magnet" could stay suspended in the pipe?

  • @Eaversify no, the suspension is created by the magnet moving, and the induced field will always be weaker than the magnet itself, so it can only be slowed down.

  • v-sauce ?

  • The guy sounds like zach galifianakis.

    haha

  • hmm that magnet must v been made in mexico so lazy ...

  • where did you get the copper pipe? i looked in home depot, but they only had small diameter pipes. is that 2 inch pipe?

    thanks,

  • haha everybody is watching the vsauce leanback

  • WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?!

  • so if I cover my self in neodinium magnets and jump down a copper tube when i land i wont get hurt(well not to badly)

  • does the pipe get heavier?

  • ahahahaa antigraaaaaaaaaavity MACHINE

  • this guy MUST be the double rainbow guy

  • How did I not know about this?

  • Anti gravity machine. I'm saying it like that from now on

  • The magnet isn't going slow, he's just moving his hand very fast.

  • lol. Lenz's Law

  • I live right by u lol

  • if only they added this feature to the nanosuit in Crysis 2......

  • my hobby- posting 'reactions' that don't envolve the video. in this case 'ouch'.

  • Comment removed

  • Can i have it?

  • Its cool, but to do this all day ,so stupid

  • shadow looks like a dick

  • definitely a glitch in the matrix

  • hermoso y desconocido...

  • i liked it when someone snorted when he said special effects.. :D

  • I love when top comments are hilarious

  • That's awesome!

  • There is no spoon

  • Mind fuck

  • will it slow down if u drop it from a high distant?

  • those magnets are so expensive

  • You guys are defiantly stoners...

  • give me that and a few tabs of acid, and i'd be good to go

  • what is this witchcraft?!?! somebody please think of baby jesus! lol

  • @pseudotasuki Kewl...It seems like a meditation method...just continue putting that magnet in there, while deep breathing...and feel the stress melt away (and be pulled away by the magnetism : P)

  • is that zach galifianakis talking?

  • God already patched it...

  • i would like a suit made of neodymium magnets and throw myself down a giant cooper tube

  • This is some fucking druid black magic

  • This is because the copper tube "sees" a changing magnetic field from the falling magnet. This changing magnetic field induces a current in the copper tube.

  • Science!

  • The interesting thing is about the weight, when you drop the magnet through a copper tube and weigh it at the same time, you can observe that partial weight of the magnet is also added to the copper tube's weight. Since I don't have a very detailed testing equipment, I can only observe.

  • "ANTI-GRAVITY MACHINE" his voice is EPIC. xD

  • Vsauce2 sent me here

  • thumbs up if you've seen this on HouseHoldHacker already :)

  • wooow doudle rainbow all the way (^-^)

  • its not antigravity, its still falling.

There is no antygravity at all!

  • eddy currents! wow, i remembered something i learnt in physics..

  • I realised that the Neo Magnets i have bought are actualy really small for im fine in buying a 15mm Copper Pipe.

  • you sound like xcal

  • Eddy currents!!! :D

  • Woah, Rockford.

  • what would happen if you were somehow clothed in this magnet, and were dropped down a giant copper pipe? To my imaginative childish-like mind, that sounds very exciting! :D

  • syntax error: gravity expected near earth

  • >.> are you god?

  • thats trippy as fuck.. do not look at this when stoned.

  • Error occurred :(

  • VSAUCE ARMY

  • holly shit

  • So Its Just Copper Pipe And Magnet

  • @MegaHarris470 Neodymium Magnet

  • @rankiju Ahhh So There Is A Catch !!!

  • @MegaHarris470 I ordered one for about £5 for 4 of them, you can get some smaller ones for like £2 for 50.

  • @rankiju Thankx FOr The Info

  • @MegaHarris470 Anytime.

  • how does this work? I am confused..

  • ANTI GRAVITY MAHCHEENE!

  • 0:24 ARE YOU BUTTHEAD? lol

  • i know why that is happening wo had this in school once

  • thums up if you saw this and the goussian gun on household hacker

  • BURN this WITCHCRAFT! lol

  • Even the guy says "its weird stuff". I think it was Jesus, maybe even God

  • flip the tube around with the magnet in it XD

  • THE WORLD MUST KNOW

  • try that submerged in water and see wat would happen

  • I want a suit made of this, and a giant tube...

  • Holy gravity batman!!

  • VSAUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • VSAUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • VSAUCE IS BOSS!

  • There are actually some vehicle brakes that work like this.

  • householdhacker

  • For some reason this reminds me of portal!

  • why is a conversation about buying magnets on top comments

"HOLY SHIT THAT WAS A GREAT COMMENT, OH THAT ONE TOO IMUST GIVE THEM A THUMBS UP"

    lollolol youtubers these days

  • hahaha awesome

  • hold it sideways

  • @EveryoneIsBoring ho watch HouseHoldHacker they should have one vid about them

  • elevators anyone?

  • mesmerizing

  • new elevator idea ;p

  • Real life is lagging.......

  • i could do this all day

  • FUCKIN MAGNETS

  • he is a wizard

  • Don't worry, God is patching this next.

  • @ughatjsp Hahahaha this is the most clever comment I've ever read on youtube!

  • Take two copper pipes and switch the top pipe to the bottom pipe as the magnet goes down.

  • VSAUCE ARMY, GET ME ONE OF THESE!

  • MABE HES JUST A GIANT!?!

  • VSauce

  • I saw this before on HouseholdHacker!

  • Woohoo! Go Rockford Illinois!

  • Vsauce Brought me here

  • they should make a big hole and a magnet suit for people to jump down! :D

  • The way it twists and stuff is awesome.

  • I saw this one before vsause. :P

  • VSAUCE FTW

  • You know you dont have a life when you could stand with a tube and a magnet all day, pushing the magnet trough the tube

  • we did this last week in school :)

  • i love physics

  • Someone ingeniously invent a toy out of this.....

  • I remember household hacker had made something like this

  • you can use a pipe made of aluminum instead of copper pipe.

  • WTF

  • he sounds like peter coffin

  • VSAUSE ARMY

  • Sweet!!

  • LEANBACK

  • Does the pipe feel heavier when the magnet falls through it?

  • Works with aluminum too! :D
