  • I found this completely fascinating!

  • Ha ha ha... I wish I lived in the southern states some times... This is really awesome..

  • Fun video to watch, thanks

  • that looks really fun I wish I could go catfishing.

  • my friend thought they where playin football when the lady was volunteering to block on third and three that was a classic line and the lady was ready to get after those trophy yellowcats

  • this would be so much better with out the stupid cartoon

  • Knightraven1972 I sent you a personal message

  • wow.....................

  • DID GOOD!!!!!!!!!

  • very nice flatheads

  • Great job man! Bass fishing has been my passion since i was 2 years old but i want to start spending some time catching big catfish! they seem like so much fun!

i hear stories about noodlers who accidently mistake alligator snapping turtles for fish and get their thumbs bitten off... do you know if this is just people lying or not? Great video!!!

  • How many women would say, "Do you need me to block?" Priceless

  • No kidding...lol

  • I would like to say the video was excellent. The catfish were awesome. One day I would like to try noodling

  • great video.. I've just started fishing (my 3&1/2 year old son got me into it..lol) He catches my bait and then I use it to get the flatheads! I never knew how addicting fishing could be. Love the bait in the credits.. Bret-haha

  • 'brett is this screen always dark like this'

haa, thats a massive fish good job!

  • Very nice. I hope you ate those big bastards.

  • Good Job!

  • love everything you have done, the editing, filming, and of course the noodling [hogging], i would love to have tried this once. :(:( oh well, maybe someday.

  • badassss

  • I give you big pat on the back, I'm from nyc and just moved to N.C. and some guys at work were talking about noodling and telling me if I wanted to join them on a trip. I have to admit that looks scary as hell putting your hand into a big fishes mouth! but like I said you gotta have a set screwed on tight pal!

  • I always say, if you jump in the water and put your hand in the hole the fish will bite. At this point one of two things is going to happen, you are going to jump out of the water or into the boat and never think about doing that again, or you will be hooked for life on doing this.

I have seen the biggest badest guys jump out of the water, and the most mild people get addicted to it, you never know. for example: I wear a suit and work in IT with computer systems all day, Go figure. lol

  • Awright, Billy Bob! This is one dang fine sport. My pappy used to hog for catfish in the Platte in Nebrasky 'round '36 or thereabouts. Course no one believed him cept my aunt who caught him coming home with a big ole fish, and he din't have no pole.

  • LOL, glad to see we are all still having fun.

  • heya uncle brett when yah gonna back and see us? lol

  • What if you brought a small knife, like a wedge handled boot dagger into the hole and once you got your hand in it's mouth stab it through the brain then pull it up.

You can't say it's more brutal because letting it asphyxiate in the boat is far more brutal.

Are these fish lined up along those underwater embankments in large numbers or something?

When finding holes, are you following a pattern of land erosion?

Is it only during the spawning period that this is possible?

  • thats way too many questions...but at least you kept it literate :D

  • Ok lets take them one at a time. These fish move very fast in the water I would hate to see the damage I would cause myself with a knife under the water (the fish do good enough of a job).

They do not line up the bank, but rather are scattered about. I know of about 15 holes in about a 4 or 5 mile stretch. They are made from a mix of logs, roots, rocks, and even an old concrete highway under the water at one point. Yes it is primarily during spawining period that you find them in the holes.

  • wow now do that only with a rod and reel and u will be set lol jk

i noodle in tx its illegal as all hell but hey its fun and i like to swim so why not

they should so make it legal in tx grrrrrr that makes me so mad

last one i got from under a big rock was only 40 but boi did he fight he banged my head into the rock once or twice but it was worth it

and the thing about the big yella cats/flatheads is that they taste the same as the small ones

  • Well if they open it up in Texas I guess I will have to go down there, would love to see how big those Texas flatheads get.

You know they say everything is bigger in Texas.

  • wonderful vid...that last one still had some fight, eh? my husband used to noodle...good times...

  • Thank you. I had lots of fun doing it. And yes that last one bit me the entire time I was working that hole, he was a fighter.

  • yea, noddle the wife is good times

  • where is the big muddy???

  • In the southern part of Illinois

  • Nice Video, Great video editing, what happened to your dads leg? Did a catfish bite it off on a noodling adventure gone wrong??

  • Thanks. And as for my dad's leg...lol..now that would be a You Tube video that would get some buzz.

Man loses leg but catches fish!

  • I seen a tattoo once... A catfish with a severed arm in its mouth... Thought it was pretty funny!

  • bad thing about noodeling, is YOU KILL ALL THE DAMN FISH!

  • I know I hate that too, but I have not yet found a way to eat them and it not kill them.

  • good point! and im not downing you fo rthat @ all!

i just think that BIG FISH dont taste as good, and they have built up alot more toxins in their system.

not to mention im big into conservation, and the BIG FISH reproduce ALOT MORE than the small fish do. also catching them off their spawning bed pretty much ensures that all their hatchings will DIE/be eaten

  • All valid points. The big ones do taste funny if you do not add an extra step in the fish cleaning process, but after that it is pure white meat and taste great.

As for the conservation effort, you wont hear me fault anyone trying to preserve our wildlife, I try to take a balanced approach of give and take.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • what is the "extra step"? removing the red meat?

  • yes, and this may sound gross but yea if you fillet the red out and cut out that layer of fat that you only find in the big cats, it taste just as good as a fiddler.

  • lol I live in marion

  • thats funny i am from mt.vernon and we go to the bluegill hole by nason never tryed hoggin on the big muddy...

  • post more of these videos! they r cool documentaries

  • What part of the Big Muddy? I live in West frankfort, about how far from there?

  • I was raised in West Frankfort, and graduated from there. I go back to fish every spring. Most of the time i am just down river from the Ziegler bridge.

  • Wow, I live in West frankfort lol What year did you graduate?

  • I graduated in 1990

  • nice catch! but im confused. why does it take so long to pull em out of the hole? do they wedge themselves in or something?

  • The holes that they were in are pretty big and they move around and hide. Sometimes you will dive down and not even get a touch of them, then others they bite you as soon as you stick your hand in. They are also very strong and come loose before you can get both hands on them. And the most frustrating thing is to run out of air before you can secure them, but this is what makes it so fun.

  • People who do this just amaze me. Great job!

  • looks like fun

  • belly meat from the yellowcat next to blue quail is the best food from the wild its so much better than an barn owl or a carp

  • yall city folks take to long

  • hahaha mom was ready to go!

  • Awsome I live in Murphysboro Illinios 1 mile from Big muddy.Keep the tradition goin and good luck fishin. From Tuttor E Jackson Co Ill.

  • just wait till theres a snapper in one of those holes lol

  • LOL..that is the most common worries of people. I have been doing it since I was very young and have yet to see one in a hole. But you always think about it.

  • That is awesome. This is certainly the time to fish for these bad boys. Thanks for posting up this video. I was very entertained by it. You make a cute video.

  • Excellent cats!

  • OMG that is awesome i go fishing with my parents but i dont think i am brave enought o stick my hand in a fishes mouth especially that size!!! wooot please tell me you fried them bad boys up

  • Yes I fried them up the next day (part of one anyway), there is a trick to cutting up one this big. You have to filet the meat a bit different but if you do it was a huge amount of pure white fish. Thanks for the comments, you shuld give it a try it is quite a rush.
