It's all one scene, just different angles. But yes, I do multiple takes from each angle.

I use the Canon XL-H1. But I would rather have the Sony EX3.

@filmriot Not to be a wise acre, but, what makes the EX3 so special? Sell the XLH1 and go for the EX3. ;P Easy peasy Japanesy. ;)

The EX3 is the better cam for many reasons. A few being, better Chroma and Luma response, better customization... and a MUCH better LCD. The XL-H1's LCD is not sharp enough and makes pulling focus with a 35mm adapter difficult. Not to mention the EX3 has veriable frame rates, which mean real slow-mo.

The reversal shot is standard. You'll see it in most scenes.

quick question, so you have to film EVERYTHING 3 times? what if it's a long scene? do you then story board the scene or plan out how you want it shot before hand so you don't have to film so much?

With the show, I don't have enough time to storyboard, so I just wing everything. With my bigger projects I storyboard. As far as takes go, if it's a comedy, I get as many takes as time will allow. If it is a drama I typically with shoot until I get a solid take and then get one safety.

I had plans to test drive FCP this weekend but, unfortunately, it doesn't work on my weak muscled Mac Mini so I suppose it's time to get real comfortable (and used to) using iMovie '09 for a while longer, I suppose. ;/ Great episode, again, Ryan... and gang!

We watched this video in film class this morning. LOL.

The triangle thing had us all laughing. The dialogue tip you gave was a real help. I remember you talking about it in one of your earlier videos, and with Movie Maker, it's easy to do. We don't have access to any of the better video editors, like Final Cut Pro, right now, so we have to make due with what we have.

Got to stick with the basics for now. lol.

I loved this episode. Now if you guys would just do an episode on producing an episode that talks more about the logistics of puting film riot together, like getting sponsors, posting episodes, organizing e-mail requests and your web sites, ect. ect. Even try to through in a production time line were you show how long it takes to creat an episode, from conception, to writing, to filming, editing, and finaly, to when you guys post it on line for all of us to see.

check out the Canon HV20, HV30, or HV40. They are cheaper than professional cameras but they are still amazing.

Or if that's too expensive still, you should look at one of JVC's HD camcorders.

DXG has REALLY cheap camcorders, and some are really good for the price. look at dxgusa. com
