  • @TheFlarmo - Around here, the bells ring from start to finish.

  • Griffith Indiana 45th street is about to be a quiet zone, they are putting in 4 quadrant gates which is expected to be done at end of this month, all part of the CN take over, I miss the EJ&E days

  • Quiet Zones are stupid. In Manassas VA they built a bunch of apartments so a Quiet Zone thing was passed. THey built em right next to many crossings and a yard all tracks cross a major road with a crossing and these tracks are the mainline conenction from Washington DC to Harrisburg PA

  • ummm thats not a quiet zone lol?

  • @Flipzsd2 - It wasn't when this video was shot but it is now.

  • @deloreanman14 o ok thanks for the info=)

  • no bells

  • I'll be damned if 4449 can't sound her whistle at those crossings anymore.

  • With lights, gates and bells, locomotive horns are not needed.

  • love this video!

  • Alright guys...let's keep it civil please.

  • 3. Better driver's education would weed out a lot of the idiots who run crossing gates, and then train horns really wouldn't even be necessary.

    4. Train horns often don't stop idiots from running the gates anyway.

    5. True the RR has been there far longer than the current residents; by the same token can you realistically expect the city not to develop the area around the tracks as population and businesses increase (and therefore have more people living by the tracks)?

  • Devil's Advocate: 1. Some people have to live wherever it is economically feasible for them to live, and sometimes the only viable option for a college student/low-income worker in an expensive area like Portland is a cheaper condo or apartment that happens to be close to a RR track.

    2. The train horn only needs to warn traffic at the crossing, not the entire town. Most train horns currently warn the entire town...

  • its the peoples fault for living there what do thay expect?

  • Amen, my friend. But because they have money they feel they are entitled to special treatment and unfortunately, the City feels the same way.

  • F em they shouldnt of moved there its kind of common sense.. you see train tracks.. there are gonna be some F___king trains DUH

  • 3 words. Deal with it! If they don't like, move to a quieter area of Portland.

  • yaah those damn quiet zones are really stupid than they bitch when there blessed car gets hit...shit its like out where I live on my farm the new cityslicker neighbors bitch at us ranchers because our cows and horses shit stinks thats stupid h=they find the smell offensive i tell them you bought the damn house out here by our farms deal with it same as this bitching about the horns stupid they new it when they bought there blessed condos by the tracks...Let Em Blow the horns I mean

  • train horns are ment to be loud for safety. If they dont like it then they can move easer than the railroad.

  • Bah! to those wanting a quiet zone. If they wanna live next to railroad tracks, they should be prepared for a lot of noise if they wanna live where they are. Heck, I find it ridiculous that those that live in the apartments near Hermann Park back home want us to silence our own train horns just because it's loud.
