Also, you may want to check out xautomation. xte simulates keystrokes so you can stripc a bunch of keydown, key and keyup events to simulate pushing buttons and make any function you like a button.
@bluephreakr No.. I mean there's no option for 'show desktop' in gconf..but i have configured it by using Gnome Tweak Tool..same result! btw thanks.. =)
On KDE 4.4 its almost impossible, you have to apply a patch and recompile etc etc.
Actually, latest KDE is very good, with different activities for each desktop, not just the wallpaper.
I think compiz don't work with 4 real desktops, just virtual. Kwin is not powerfull like compiz, so I dont know what is better, many effects with compiz or 4 real independents desktops on kde.
Theres no 'show desktop' option on 11.10..=(

Thanks for sharing, but i bet you cant get right click menu and shortcuts on those workspaces. I wish a work around would be made for that.
