  • dann spiels doch einmal nach...

  • Shawn Lane...idiots!

  • And God appears in many forms of life ...

  • Fucking GREAT Gitarist and beutiful person!

  • can U imagine the music he would making today if he was still with us. . RIP Rory.

  • Yeah, simply the Best! Thanks Purple&Zeppelin, you know your music!

    R.I.P. Rory

  • frank marino is another under-appreciated great.....and there are countless others.

  • What? This guy plays good but hes certainly not in the league of being the best. But i guess the "very best guitarist in the world" position is very subjective since every list ive seen is crappy according to many people.

  • Definitely the greatest ever. That solo is absolutely epic. Well done Rory. RIP from Cork

  • i agree he is so underrated, and is the best guitarist ever, despite my name :)

  • Best electric blues guitarists ever: 1. Rory Gallagher. 2. Peter Greene. 3. Jimi Hendrix. 4. Stevie Ray Vaughn. 5. Duane Allman. 6. Roy Buchanan. 7. Buddy Guy. 8. Albert King. 9. Johnny Winter. 10. Albert Collins. Honorable mention: Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Johnson, Jimmy Paige, Jeff Healey, Mick Taylor.
  • @Gallagherfreak100

    Where is Jerry Garcia?

  • @Gallagherfreak100 I'am absolutly agree with you, but you've forgot Gary Moore R.I.P. He is for me one of the best guitarplayer too. For me the number 2 after Rory.

  • @Gallagherfreak100 The best ever! Rory! Jimi answered quiestion "how does it feel to be a guitar-king?" "Ask Rory" :)

  • Rory o Theos, Rory ischyros, Rory athanatos, eleison imas.

Rory Deus, Rory Fortis, Rory Immortālis, miserēre nōbīs.

Rory God, Rory Mighty, Rory Immortal, have mercy on us.

  • There is no need to have arguments here, just enjoy the music

  • LOVE RORY

  • It's plainly silly to say that Hendrix was crap, and only serves to show your ignorance of music. I'd assumed from the comment that you were a kid, but your profile states that you're in your 40's; you should know better! I like some of Gallagher's stuff, but no one has surpassed Hendrix's creativity, musicality and imagination. Gallagher himself would have said as much, of that I'm certain! This piece is pretty monotonous and dull. Listen to 'Little Wing', or 'All Along the Watchtower'.

  • @oxonfineartist hendri was who said Rory is the best.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin If Hendrix did say Gallagher 'was the best', (which I doubt) then it was due to his innate humility as a person. Hendrix was very generous towards fellow guitarists, as is well documented in various interviews and biographies. Gallagher was good at what he did, but Hendrix was in a league of his own as a player, composer and performer. If Gallagher IS forgotten as player, then there's a good reason for it; for the same reason that Hendrix is remembered as a player. Time tells.

  • @oxonfineartist hendriz = 2 songs.

  • @oxonfineartist

Rory has more fanatic friends. Hendrix was same league as Rory

Super trio !!! They both playd like 2 guitars.

Now the difference is that Rory playd more melody staff and not so much shychedelic....

So I remember both but honestly Rory is the best !!!!! Rory is remembered more than hendrix especially in Europe. Go to UK , Greece, France, Spain Germany and ask who do you remember best...!!!!

Rory lived to play live music . Hendrix not so match ...check number of performances/lives

  • @OnlyMeRoGa As I said, I do quite like some of Gallagher's music, but we will have to agree to disagree. Hendrix was innovative, a one off, whereas Rory wasn't, he was a straightforward rock/blues player. I checked out 'Off the Handle', and it's good, but not startlingly so. In fact it reminded me of Hendrix's 'Voodoo Chile' (slow version), and 'Catfish Blues', as it is a much used blues riff. Hendrix's music is just more interesting., and no one lived to play more than Hendrix! Kind regards.

  • @oxonfineartist

It is a matter of individual taste .........When I was younger there was a period I could hear only Hendix. (from LP's) After Youtube (last 4 years maybe) were I could see both live, Im stuck with Rorry !!!!! Definitely Im not say who is best....but who I like to watch best. Also I used to hear SRV a lot. But in the youtube ....again I love to watch Rory. ! Also think that in one year Rory did 200 performances !!! So no comparison on that!!! Even Japan +all over Europe + US

  • @oxonfineartist

    @oxonfineartist

Hendrix was asked after he won Melody Maker guitarist of the year in 1969 what it was like to be the best guitarist in the wold and he replied "I dunno, ask Rory Gallagher."

  • @tynebar Fair comment, but Hendrix was noted for his modesty about his own playing, and rarely had a bad word to say concerning other players. We will agree to disagree. I still believe Hendrix's music to be more interesting and innovative. Thanks.

  • @oxonfineartist When hendrix play something like this ... call me

yes, hendrix plays guitar a fucking ... but doesn't sound like anything.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin I really can not be bothered arguing about this with you. I like some of Gallagher's stuff, so what's your problem? As for Hendrix saying "Rory Gallagher was best", if you look at Gallagher's website, you will see that Gallagher's brother says that it was a "nice myth" that Hendrix ever said that. He also says that his brother Rory, " idolised Hendrix". Just get your facts straight. I have not once said that I didn't like Rory Gallagher! Enough said.

  • @oxonfineartist No matter what hendrix says or Hendrix doesn't say.

You think I care what does Hendrix say?

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin No, and neither do I care about what you have to say, which is frankly rubbish. If you had any musical knowledge, or awareness of music, then your opinion might matter, but you obviously don't, so it doesn't! I just thought that given your obsession with Gallagher, you might have been to his website, and read what his BROTHER had to say on this subject? I am SO bored with this subject and your obsessive adolescent idolisation of Gallagher. I will ignore any further response.

  • @oxonfineartist And your obsessive adolescent idolisation of Hendrix?? hahaha

your obsessive adolescent idolisation and the millions of people about him.

if anything more pathetic because you speak by speaking, like a flock of sheep.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin I don't 'idolise' Hendrix, or anyone else for that matter. I enjoy his music, along with music by many other performers. Judging by your page, you seem to think that you ARE Rory Gallagher. You might benefit from listening to some other musicians, perhaps whilst you are at work, flipping burgers in MacDonalds? Only a suggestion. You are the only 'sheep' bleating here. I suggest that to make your carcase palatable, you go and soak in a marinade of olive oil, garlic and herbs.

  • @oxonfineartist

    check this:

Rory Gallagher Off The Handle live 1979

  • @oxonfineartist

    Or check this:

Rory Gallagher - Bad Penny Live at Montreux 1985

Have you ever see such a style ?

Think that the song has no relation with the LP one. He was playnig the songs live but different every time. Better and better.

  • @oxonfineartist : Or this blues clasic

Rory Gallagher - What In The World

  • @oxonfineartist

as Rory said once "At one point people wanted to see Hendix live just to see him braking another guitar.....and Hendrix was gatted for that" And that is true !!!

He was starting solining at some points (call it psychedelic if you want) non stop.

were Rory and SRV they were playing for the song shake.

see this also: Double Vision ...... Rory Gallagher In Belfast

  • andres segovia. hands down. no guitarist in history had such a complete understanding of the instrument and the melody that went with it

  • nice

  • my humble opinion:

    1. mark knopfler

    2. rory

    3. jimmy page

    4. hendrix

    5. Clapton

  • what´s the name of this song please!!!

  • @bajopatillas1 El nombre es Shadow Play. Porque? Puedes mirar la discografia de Rory, la canción fue publicada en el 78. Pero si, más rápido si te lo digo yo. Un saludo.

  • 1st. Angus Young

    4th.Rory Gallagher

    5th. John Frusainte

    6th.Jimmy Hendrix

    7th.Malcom Young

    8th.Chuck Berry

    9th.James Hetfield

    10th.Slash

  • LMAO - this is a joke right? The best? What constitutes "The Best"?

  • hendrix was better.

  • @punkrockefeller it put me a good song hendrix, then I'll give you the reason, if you want, the reason, I don't want it all, I give it. But you don't understand that Hendrix is a mad goat. What plays doesn't sound like anything, it's pure noise.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin i'd like to give you 2 or 3 thumbs down...you must be joking or you're deaf, listen to the rythm hendrix plays and take time to make sure that nobody got that feeling of playing before or after hendrix ...i'm not saying that the so you called best guitarist is bad...he can play. actually very good but maan!? ´-_-

  • he looks fucking fat in this video

  • he sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • there is a young girl named desiree basset tthat makes this dude look like he`s just learned how to play the electric guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she a cross between joe satriani and jimi hendrix!! trust me this girl seriously kicks ass on the electric guitar and has sat in with alot of top name bands!!!!!and the kicker is shes only 17 years old!! a future big name star for sure!!!!!!!!!

  • Hendrix were ok in the 70's, Hendrix would not hav a chance in the top 100 if were realistic, time's move's on. It don't matter if it music acting sport ect.. the human race will get better at what ever we do.

  • @Hobbins84 "the human race will get better at what ever we do." SURE??

  • @Hobbins84 thats the dumbest thing ive heard in a long time

  • @sllusus Hendrix isn't good, just noise.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin try speaking like that in public. you'll be laughed at and shouted down like the ignorant and limited person that you are. this assertion of yours cannot possibly be defended from any critical standpoint but that of complete negative relativism. which is a pretty shitty defense. in short, your view means nothing, for everyone who is someone knows the true value of Hendrix.

  • @sllusus Couldn't agree more! 'Purple and Zeppelin' obviously isn't at all musical, otherwise he would appreciate Hendrix's outstanding and unique musical ability. Gallagher is good at what he does, but he is just not in the same league in any sense. 'Purple' and I have been having words about this (pointless I know!) and it is apparent that he is just obsessed with Gallagher to the exclusion of anything else. Hendrix is great, and his music continues to influence anyone with any sensitivity.

  • oxo&slusus To begin my obsession is Zeppelin, you should know now. Second, while Hendrix was being done straws, going on TV and fucking babes, Gallagher was playing. I don't appreciate people for their words, I value them for their actions. Hendrix was only 2 years and although he was palestram life, I still say, Hendri play the guitar amazing but doesn't sound like anything, you understand the meaning of magic? not the magic of devil and god and sorceress. Whose obsession now? you should know.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin I don't actually understand most of this, and furthermore, I don't care. The ravings of a lunatic.

  • @oxonfineartist Certainly, I dont speak english, talk to me in spanish.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin No estoy interesado en todo lo que tiene que decir! La vida es demasiado corta, y mi tiempo es demasiado valioso. Muchas gracias.

  • @Hobbins84 yeah you're right you have to be gay or a cocksucking bitch to get in the charts now, or someone who own much bitches. ... dreamer

  • @TheBluesmountains Hendrix overrated, is a shit.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin sure you like guitar sounds? oh and we call that 'noises' music

  • Never saw a man play a guitar like that before, like he was born with it in his hands! He was perfection ♥ Wish I had seen him live in concert ♥

  • okay I just heard some other rory playin..he is a very fine player..particulARLY SLIDE..gOD aWFUL SINGER BUT MOST GUITARISTS CANT SING!!! fROM jIMI TO gARY mOORE ETC. ALL AWFUL AT VOCALS...rORY IS VERY GOOD BUT nO WHERE NEAR TOP 100 LEVEL...PEACE

  • @konshess if you hear this live, jimi or their dreams in heaven does something like this. hendrix is just that, hendrix, the sale of a name, not real.

By god, listen to this, are you deaf or what?!!

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin YEAH ITS 80S GARBAGE

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin you dumb? what the fuck do you know about jimi to talk like that? sorry mate, but your talking out of your fucking arse.

  • good better then average playing at best. post a clip where he is actually playing great guitar...that would be refreshing...

  • P&Z - I said that it doesn't really matter who each of us thinks is best - we all have our biases and favourites - my point is that we've been fortunate to have had ALL of them and the music they've given us. I love Jimmy Page's playing, but I'd not want to only ever listen to him. I can listen/watch this clip of Rory a whole lot and I thank you for posting it :-)

  • @nwtrunner But, ... Hendrix? Slash?? My God, this is serious.

  • I met him here in Australia while on tour about a year before he passed. A gracious & generous man! Not to mention a Sensational Performer and an amazing Guitarist. Thank you for your post! Marc

  • What year is this? must be the year he passed?

  • @jennyandmarc one year before.

  • ya could see rory wasnt well but he played as normal.the best.thanks.

  • this reminds me of a heavier version of dire straits

  • @machinehead891 dire straits?? heavier version??

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin well this song just reminded me of dire straits, but with distorted guitars, hence 'heavier'

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin sultans of swing

  • i love Rory G. but Stevie R. V. was also very good

  • no disrespect for i am a pro guitarist for 25 years and perhaps i have to watch and hear more rory..but this is average hair metal trash..poison bon jovi and crew's guitarist blow this clown away.....best ever??????????? cmon....hes average at best....

  • @konshess

bon jovi and crews are clowns man. They re music its just for laughing....and girlies

Rory never put socks into hes trousers so that pretent tha he is having biger balls.....

  • @OnlyMeRoGa lol nice:) you are right..

  • @konshess

    Clown? Rory Gallagher?

Did you just compare Richie sambora to Rory Gallagher, and surmise that sambora is better?

You poor man, a pro guitarist wouldnt have made that fatal error.

Brian may would slaughter all you just mentioned and guess what? he attributes his sound and style to Rory .

  • @phil862007 you may be right my friend but this is the only thing i ever heard from this Rory guy..and it stinks...

  • @konshess okie listen to; "bad penny" "too much alcohol" "bullfrog blues" "cradle rock" "Loanshark blues" "philby" "going to my hometown" "out on the western plain" "Off the handle" "Follow me" This list could really go on and on. Its not fair to judge a man based on one song from his countless works. Anyone who knows real music will tell you Rory could stand with all the greats. . . .and has indeed many times over, earned his place. A pioneer of electric blues rock.
  • @phil862007 we all know he's the best.

  • @konshess <---- pro guitarist for 25 years and you call Rory a "clown"... I respect your opinions and likes, but don't put Rory anywhere near the bands you mentioned, and especially don't you call this man a "clown". You're only insulting yourself, you just didn't realized it yet. I didn't understand if you're a youtube troll or just a hater though.

    I wish you well

  • @a8anasios666 no...he still stinks 80s hair metal garbage.....best guitarist ever???? right.....maybe top 20 in Irish history

  • Rory's music is one of the pleasures of my life, I never tire of his playing. Thanks for posting this.

  • Toujour dans mon coeur

  • He is the best with Eric Clapton . Others like Page , blackmore etc wasnt so great because they just played guitar .. Rory play / sing / moove .. He do the show alone . RIP boy .

  • No contest the best

  • Again the best !!!!

  • Only the best

  • I still say Listen to FRED BEAR by TED NUGENT ,NUGENT ripped these riifs even the solo

  • tienes razon es el mejor.......... el MEJOR!!!!!!!!

tiene un frescura a la hora de sus solos....

    incomparable Rory Gallagher!!!!!

  • jimi hendrix is the best !!.

But rory could play along side him awsome solo and huge respect to rory .

I keep starting his solo off in this video very good feeling timing and not to much fast playing wich over i million guitarist can do its so cliche

  • How come when asked "How does it feel to be the best guitarest in the world?" Hendrix's reply was "Why are you asking me. Ask Rory Gallagher"

  • @hdhdss

  • no way srv is the best kido

  • genuis.RORY. R.I.P.......

  • the bestt!!!!!!!!!1

  • the best

  • this video is about jimmy page????

  • Many people tried to rate the best guitarists on earth.

    My humble opinion is :

    1st Rory

    2nd Gallagher

    3rd Rory gallagher

    Th others are just... outsiders

    No offense for them

  • Simple and simply the best guitar of all time although unjustly forgot, there are good guitarists but he is the best.

  • @PurpleAndZeppelin ....never forget!!!....rory gallagher and stevie vaughan are equally my 2 very most faves of all time....gone and for ever missed!!! so glad they left us what they did in the short time they were with us....they were both very similliar people in many ways....i will never forget!!!!

  • :D i had an opinion too once but never was 1 for rating my fav artists as who was better than who, each had their own quality until i belatedley but not too late found RG. but now i can honestly say who is #1!! and the rest are like u said just the other's..

  • I agree !!!

  • i like your style..fair play.!!

  • ;-)

    Thanks for your comment

  • I always thought that Rory didn't play the guitar, but the guitar used Rory to play.

Guitar isn't an instrument in Rory's hands,it looks like it is some extension of his arms,it's part of his body

  • For that reason is the best, because he died for love not for money.

  • @paul2a2b Exactly!!!! Like he was born with it in his hands! x

  • The best of the bests !!!!!

Ispiration, lyrics, guitar playng......this dirty sound with so much detail ????

"complicated things" can play even a genius 16 year old kid....doesnt make him the best........

Can you give birth to such music?

  • i couldn't agree more. rory is the man

  • Comment removed

  • Huge mistake. It doesn't treat to play more complicated, It treats playing and sounds to glory.

  • But forgive you. You Still are young. You have to learn and you still have time.

  • rory could play all styles, and no less an authority than MUDDY WATERS said rory was the most amaziong guitarist ever. he handpicked rory for his london sessions lp. complicated doesn't equal great playing. rory's solos took you places, and his emotional level of playing is only closely approached by duane allman. rory played lead, slide, acoustic on a world class level

  • to be honest i really dont care

  • if you don't care, why did you reply? complicated fast playing isn't where it's at. malmsteen, van halen, and those guys(demeola) have no soul in their playing. the slow blues is the most diffcult thing to play. hell, ask slash about rory.

  • Accurate, the question is magic, is aura.

  • perhaps before you start even thinking i like thouse guys look at my music on my channel info

  • @rorygg1 You are so right! No soul in all those million notes per second guys.Don't worry brother.REAL PLAYERS KNOW AND UNDERSTAND.RORY IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE AT THE TOP. SEEN EM ABOUT 4 TIMES AND HE ALWAYS BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN!!!

  • @Rossco602 difficulty doesnt make anything mean more. he just knows how to take an idea home if you know what i mean

  • great video!!! thanks, Love it 5/5

  • best guitarist? stupid to even debate the subject because there is no winner. Rory made his strat sound like nobody else....as did david gilmour and eric clapton and hendrix and srv........

  • If there're better than .... These are Rory and Jimmy (Page, obviously).

  • I concur ggrahamm17 - this knobhead doesn't know a great deal!

I have to say this is not the best example to make a judgement on though. He should try looking at a few more and he will change his views hopefully.

Having seen him live many times in the 70's and 80's there is no better guitarist. Plenty of equals perhaps, but no-one better.

  • Thankyou Phantom Canon, Please accept this award for the most stupidly ridiculous comment posted in 2009. congratulations, but you will have to work hard to beat it next year. suggest Pink Floyd no better than primary school marching band, From the USA of course

  • @PhantomCanon I'm amazed that an imbred moron like you is even able to post a message here.

  • for a best guitarist its more your preference.

like the top 10 greatest guitarists are all on par with one another just excel in different areas of music.

in my opinion rory would be in the top 10 no doubts. i've yet to see somebody be so diverse yet deep (generally if you expand into other genres your communication can get lost through the transit) rory never lost his soul and talent.

he literally lived for music 200+ gigs a year cmon what other guitarist was so dedicated?

  • puros armonicos en el solo

  • ciao !! ... thanks very much Lorient!! au revoir!!!

  • Comment removed

  • wow even when he was terribly ill Rory still rocked, its sad how he is still not well known, thank god we still have a festival dedicated to the him in Ballyshannon, he's no doubt Ireland's no1 guitarist & people quit the bashing on Jimi he made guitar for what it is, and can you people imagine if Jimi, & Rory all performed together damn the world would shatter, sadly that can't ever happen, well maybe in heaven lol

R.I.P. James Marshall Hendrix & Liam Rory Gallagher you bonafide guitar gods

  • both heroes but apparently once they did play on the same stage somewhere in america apparently if its true what a place to be

  • Agree Rory stands at the peak. With him, it was not about "shredding". Rory was pure passion and emotion. Never anyone else like him. Early peter green was close. SRV and Jimi, too.

  • In my opinion. Not the best guitar player but for sure one of the best rockers and show stoppers

  • best guitarist? hard to say isnt it...depends on the criteria you use to judge...i know rory thought a lot of ritchie blackmore and he also spoke about the skill of ed van halen...As for me, gallagher moves me the most by far. Genius!!!!!

  • rory are god,

the best guitar player for ever, mister gallagher rory,

    the feeling and power

merci rory repose en paix mon ami

  • 1a. Jimmy Page

    1b. Jimi Hendrix

(in no particular order from here on out)

    SRV

    Rory Gallagher

    Eric Clapton

    Duane Allman

    rock on fellas!

  • the best guitaris ever is jason becker fuck you to the ones that said is hendrix

  • There isn't an absolute best, but the top 5 are:

    1. Paul Gilbert

    2. Jimi Hendrix

    3. Eric Johnson

    4. Stevie Ray Vaughan

    5. Eric Clapton

  • David gilmour

  • the best is me

  • The "best guitarist" argument is impossible to win. Everybody has a favorite.

For me, Hendrix was the supreme innovator, no one better on the electric guitar. However, Rory was easily his equal as a blues guitarist.

Both were prodigies, both were self-taught, neither of them read music --- Jimi died, tragically, at 27, Rory died, tragically, at 47.

They were contemporaries with completely different, but completely godlike, talent.

  • hendrix isn't innovative of anything. In any case "the innovative" is his friend "Fender".

  • Eeek. I would never have expected this comment from you.

Sorry to disagree, but Hendrix did things that great guitarists now simply dream of. No guitarist has ever been able to fully imitate or replicate the Hendrix style.

I base my opinion not just on my own listening, but on the many, many articles and books that have been written about Hendrix, written by folks who are not only expert listeners, but expert guitar players.

Since I'm just a listener, I'll stand back.

  • Well, Hendrix maybe was better than Rory on the electric guitar (not in my opinion), but Rory was also a great acoustic guitar player. He also played many different kinds of music; blues, rock, folk, jazz, traditional music..

Hendrix was a bit one-sided in my opinion. Well, of course he didn't have the time to expand his music to different styles due to his early death.

For me, Rory Gallagher is the greatest guitarist of all time because of his amazing talent, devotion and diversity.

  • I don't know if Rory was the best ever, but I know that he's my favourite guitarist and I think that he put as much passion into his playing as anybody. It doesn't really matter who is the best - we have been blessed to have Hendrix, Page, Buchanan, Gallagher, Slash, et al. Let's hope some more come along to replace these guys!
