  • Sooo..... What do you guys think about the video?

  • no ones knows the past. so everyone SHUT THE FUC* UP!!! its a good song, so dont bullshit this video

  • Simple explanation for god/religion: Aliens, with technology. That we will have in the future. Not sure why they don't show themselves. Probably because of all the religious people that would call them demons. They are no different than us, and they sure won't help us if we can't take care of ourselves when we are capable of.

We want to be ruled, because we're such a lazy race.

  • @snowboarderforlyfe You're so right. Super-intelligent beings from another solar system who developed the ability to travel across several thousand light years and came here and demonstrated some highly advanced technology for primitive humans is a much more simple explanation than the idea that primitive people just made up some dumb shit to explain things they couldn't understand. Oh wait, it's not.

  • @MrDrummerboy1028 , hahaha nice try trying to get thumbs up!, lol

  • I was talking with an Athiest who said Religion is only for people who want to live better lives thinking there is a better one coming up. She also said that evolution is scientific and logical. So I told her some of the most logical things are the things we can't see and that if evolution was correct, how come Dissabled apes aren't evovling into humans today? That stopped her.

  • @2herosofwar disabled apes? genetically speaking pigs are the closest to humans (which is fitting in some cases), not apes and evolution for the apes already happened in a sense because we supposedly evolved from them (meaning that they already evolved). I think it's good to have faith in something you can't see it gives a perspective of how short our lives are and to not waste them. I'm an atheist but even I think that there has to be something more then this.

  • @18FireFly81 Well if your an athiest and believe there is something more than just this... You have a little faith - try not to get your athiestm (Whatever you call it) in the middle of it, keep that light burning - dont stop believing xD

  • Why can't u guys just listen to the fucking music and quit bitching i think all yall need a tampon change...

  • who the heck are you to come in here and tell us what do believe in anyway? i have the right to believe in whatever i want and so do you, so if you dont believe in what i do, so what? does it make you feel good about yourself to come on here and push your religion on to us? please grow up

  • @christiansk8r93 you could see it as a way of testing your faith? showing that you can hold true to your beliefs and convictions despite what others tell you.

  • wtf is wrong with you people.... Who cares if it's Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or even Hindu rock!? It's music... just listen to it and move the fuck along!

  • my favorite part would have to be from 0:00 to 3:41

  • Nice, It's good to hear a band that doesn't require electricity just to sound good.

I hate bands that sound good only because they're plugged in, nice job.

also, why the hell did religeon turn up in these comment pages?

can't I read one youtube comment page without streams of unrelated or idiotic comments?

  • @frankvenn do you ever think that if God isn't real then why after two thousand years do humans still argue and talk about God? Do a websearch and historically no other topic has caused so much more debate than the existence of God. Could it be that maybe God IS real? I know that God is real and that He sent His only son Jesus to die for my sins so that I can be in Heaven one day with Him. God loves you even if you dont love Him

  • man, mtv has crappy sound-techs, that bass is going through the roof, while you can barely hear the guitar...in an acoustic set...still love this song, didn't know about this band until now, and i think i have about 500 views in 3 days xD

  • World Truth and Peace!

  • First of all, Christianity isn't a religon.

Religon is where we try to work our way up to heaven by good works, which is not the case.

Christianity is a relationship with Jesus. Jesus reaches out to us first, He wants us to just love Him, that is the way to heaven. So, Christianity is not a religon, it's a relationship. The world has the big confusion of it being a spiritual job. :)

  • So many of their songs really have words you can live by, this is one of them. Whether you're religious, or you're really just listening to them because you like they're music you can still pull something important from all their songs. But aside from all that, I love Switchfoot!

  • omg these people. stop debating ok? just watch. the message of the song was astonishing.

  • nice bass!

  • Yes members of Switchfoot are religous but their music doesn't reflect that. They said their music is more spiritual than anything else.

But please just enjoy the music and don;t bring religion in it.

  • Yeah, religion sucks.

Forget all the politics and segregation and follow Jesus.

  • this bands totally awesome

  • why not? don't miss judge

  • why not?

  • stop asuming shit about them and enjoy the fucking music

  • I wanted to know if this band was a christian band or not. I search and found that when Chad Butler was asked this question the answer I was looking for was found. Play on, Switchfoot your awesome! How do you define your spiritual life now? I would definitely call myself a follower of Christ. I grew up in a Christian household. My father is a pastor in a nondenominational church, Calvary Chapel.

  • Just like Flyleaf and Skillet, all the members are Christians.

Lacey from Flyleaf said " Yes we are all Christians. That is apart of us and our music reflects that. Faith has saved my life and I'm not afraid to show it"

  • too bad flyleaf sucks : )

  • i def meant to give you a thumbs up, not a thumbs down, flyleaf does suck

  • Well if you've ever met this band you would now just how religious this band really is. They put God before anything else. Their songs back it up too. Just read the lyrics. These are no posers they are the REAL DEAL!

  • what do you mean by "christian poser band"? They're aren't a christian band, unless you consider christians in a band a christian band. But they aren't in the "christian music" genre, nor do they want to be.

  • i saw them live at warped, i didn't mean to though lol i felt bad cause nobody was singing with them.

  • warped tour 2009? :|

  • 2008

  • theyve never played a warped tour

  • yeah i meant relient k, i mix them up sometimes.

  • Y is every switchfoot Video Filled With Religious Debate?

  • because they're a religious band.

  • Their personal lives might be "religious" and their lyrics could have a Christian tone to it...they really dont intend on being a"religious band"

  • god thank you.. its so annoing. just listen to the music

  • Best song ever

  • Ok, then believe in a theory that was made up before the Bible was written...

Key words: Theory and Made Up

Since the beginning of human kind people have made up deities to explain things their science couldn't. With the procurement of knowledge, we found other ways of explanation.

  • well jester, a relgion is a belief and a realtionship what a person has in it, and what of a faith they have in it. it doesnt make it wrong or right its what...well people BELIVE in. and for others who belive in theorys and other things let them. its all life, meant to live for a reason bro. but u do have a point

  • So how do you know if Alexander the Great or Julias Ceaser was real or not? You've never met the people, but you certainly believe they're real because your history teacher told you they were real.

So would you call all of history made up? "With the procurement of knowledge, we found other ways of explanation."

Evolution. That is where arrogance of denying a God came from.

  • i dont even believe in george washington!! its all made up!! even you are not real to me!

  • @switchfootfanboy History is a told story. It is no where near from accurate.

  • @switchfootfanboy I understand, but do no agree. We can read portions of history books that we were a part of and saw--or experienced secondhand. Our fathers experienced the events a generation before that in the same manner and so on. The collective knowledge of people ensures this is as close to precise as possible. That is, we trust that our own people transferred the history accurately--not someone we are dissociated from completely. Or, for that matter, a divine being.

  • @TN4R69 that isn't true, because for instance someone takes power by force but doesn't want the records to say that, it was a lot easier to just burn the books and everything meaning that knowledge is stored in your head, and over time it can distort and change. There are only a few instances that I remember reading about something like that happening, but just remember anyone can write a book.

  • @switchfootfanboy there are plenty of coins busts and contemporary written evidence that provide plenty of evidence for alexander and julius.

  • @JesterTBP or maybe science is made up and religion is what is right or maybe god uses science to do what he does. you have no proof god doesn't exist and i feel as though the world is proof enough that he does exist

  • 1:06 roflmao

  • Comment removed

  • true! thats why its called a believe, you believe in it, otherwise it would have been called knowledge.

  • And when He died for our sins, He died for EVERYTHING. Past, Present, Future sins that we would commit. Jesus had to die because since everyone was already destined to eternal death (hell) He had to make the ultimate sacrifice so that one day, whoever believed in Him will go to Heaven and have eternal life.

  • Well if the Bible is a myth, how come they found Noah's Ark in Mt. Ararat?

Another proof that the Great Flood actually happened is the Grand Canyon. Evolutionists claim that this landmass formed Billions of years over a long time. But you can't have that happen because rocks don't curve like that in a long time.

The only logical reason is a big, violent flood over the entire earth. Which caused the Grand Canyons to curve like that. There is really no other logical reason for it.

  • And the only way a giant flood could happen is from an act of God huh.

    Polar Shift. Look it up.

  • Polar Shift? Why would I choose to believe in a theory that was made up after the Bible was written?

Polar shift, evolution and a bunch of other theories were made up of arrogant people denying a God.

  • switchfootfanboy i just explained to jester about religion and theories. look at it. its for u as well

  • lmfao :L

  • im morman thats probably why i see it different

  • great acoustic rock. love switchfoot! been to a concert and it was AMAZING. love the taylor

  • i love this song on both versions kick ass hell ya! i cant find the tabs for the acoustic version sad day. if someone knows where to find tell me

  • hes really good live!

  • hey, there's meant to live acoustic GRD. i don't know what GRD means but that version is nice also.

  • Jon is Awesome live..

  • I definitely like this version

  • So cute ^.^ ~ <3

  • i actually like the acoustic version better

whatever the version this song is great

  • that was cool i've never seen that song acoustic. Alot of people say he can't sing live but i think he does a good job here, and they were awsome when i saw em a couple years ago

  • he's voice is amazinggg live. wow im so impressed.

  • I love his guitar! He uses taylor i'm guessing lol. I love that feedback eliminator he's using, just looks so pretty lol

  • I must, dear, say, you guys are being highly, critical. It sounds fine to me. By that I meaning the bass, vocal, and style of how he sang the song.

  • I agree with you dude

  • ur right people should stop criticing him

  • I Agree

  • I still love this song!... and I don't think it's bad like this.

  • Love this song, great band, great acoustic version... BUT

I hate when he does the second "Somewhere we live inside"

makes me want to kill a baby

    the way he stretches it

  • the stretch is part of the song if you

    read the sheet music.

  • but i still like this song

  • someone totally mest up his voice when he says side

  • you cant expect him to sing the keys always the same it gets boring singing it like that sometimes fooling around is the best way too 2 it :]

  • that was pretty good =]

  • ive seen them live and his vocals are amazing when he is going all out

  • The song is good but in this clip the music is just badly mixed. Also the sound is awful, just listen to the vocals which could be (and use to be) so much richer.

  • I love how they play corus in acoustic!

  • what guitar is he using

  • i think its some kind of taylor acoustic. thats usually what he uses.

  • I also have to say that Jon's hairstyle is nice the way it falls on his right eye!!! A very lovely Christian singing group overall!!! 5 stars!!!This is going in my favorites!!!

  • It sounds pretty cool in acoustic as well. The sound's unique. I just have to say that it's cute how Jon closes his eyes while he sings!!!

  • i spy lutehole! Switchfoot rocks! 1:06 is how the song GOES smarts.

  • I think he was suppose to do that, at the 1:06 part, because the live verison of a song is not always the same as the first verison, but that is my opinion.

  • switchfoot happens to be a christian rock band, like relient k

  • religion, yes. belief, it's the most free thing you can do.

Real music about Christ is free and full of joy and experience.

That said, I like this song.

  • ummm dude its not suposed to be big its acustic there for its melo

  • Is this song religious? cuz i put it on my ipod/walkman thingy and it said that this song is gospel & religious. LOVE THE SONG!!!! NOW I KNOW I CAN PLAY IT ON AUCOUSTIC GUITAR!!!!!!!! YEAH!

  • it saouds different from the electric guitar version because his voice can't be as loud as when he's using electric guitars. when you use acoustic guitars your vocie has to be softer in order to hear the acoustic guitar

  • I like the thing at 106.. I think it sounds pretty cool

  • all of you, just shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's all he needed.

  • sorry, you`re rigth, but in that moment i was preatty pissed off, you know it's kinda low when you see that kind of coments, when someone is talking shit about your religion..

  • Does anyone actually listen to the music or is this just an Octagon of emo's fighting over each other's personal convictions?

  • Just like the song or not.

Who cares what they say or think. It's about the song. Like it or not.

  • everyone shut the fuck up...dont hold up debates in youtube comments...wholy shit listen to the music

  • We understand, you ain't got to cuss. Dawg!

  • to be honost i think that his voice is too whiney... don`t get me wrong i love the band (: but i just don`t like his voice at all .

  • ya but not inn the real songs

  • christians wouldnt be emo

  • amazing song and an amazing voice.

  • best quality video.

  • fuck you, okay, i'm christian, if you have some problem with that you can just go to hell, i'm not trying to make everyone christian, i respect your ideals, but just don`t mess with mines..

  • haha, christians are funny.

  • don't know if all, but i surely am!!

  • popomczowzow (20 hours ago) "Actually, they're a Christian band. Not all of their songs are directly Christian. This could b considered a Christian song depending on ow you look at it. I'm not trying to argue; just letting you know."

That would be the problem with all of religion o_O

It's different no matter how you look at it. W/e. im jewish and i still think it's amazing. Music is music...can we just leave it there?

  • You're right. That's excactly how I feel about this whole thing. My comment was reply to another comment that said they weren't a Christian band, and I was just trying to tell them they were. I wasn't trying to shove the Gospel down anyone's throat, I was just making a point.

  • he reminds me alot of Kurt Cobain

  • who cares whethere there christan are satanist who gives a shit as long as they sing good songs wich they do nobody shuld care

  • Switchfoot is a Christain band. You know that right?

  • just because the members are christain doesn't mean that they are a christian band. They are alternative rock.

  • "im on fire when he is near me"

either john is gay or he`s talking 2 God

  • Actually, they're a Christian band. Not all of their songs are directly Christian. This could b considered a Christian song depending on ow you look at it. I'm not trying to argue; just letting you know.

  • they sing in parabels like jesus

  • They're not a Christian band. Get over it. I was about to post a comment word for word what banditontherun just said but no point repeating

'Switchfoot is often referred to as a "Christian band", mostly due to their involvement with the Christian rock scene in their early days. But the band has always shunned this label, "For us, it's a faith, not a genre"'

Research what you're discussing, lest ye be an ignorent Christian

  • "Get over it"? I think you're the one that needs to get over it- you're trying to start a fight over the internet regarding a comment that I made in April.

    Chill out.

  • That's not starting a fight dear, it's proving a point

  • Ok, I get it now. I was a little steamed that day too, sorry. And I get what you're saying about the Christian band thing now. At first I thought that people were saying that the members of the band aren't Christian. You're talking about the music and I'm tallking about the people haha that's why I was confused.

Yeah I know- they're a rock band with Christian members, not a Christian rock band. Makes sense now haha sorry XD

  • But I think you're also missing the point a little. It's not that they're *NOT* Christian either. It's that they don't want it to be a label for their band. They're part of the movement that doesn't want a line between "secular" and "Christian" music. It's music. Some music has positive messages and some obviously doesn't. The label of "Christian music" has a really bad rep, and we definitely want to change that. They're contributing to the breaking down of those walls.

  • And you mean *ignorant Christian. :)

  • hey im a christian and we are not ignorant you dunce

  • Ndjoker34, I was correcting the spelling of a poster above who called Christians ignorant. I am a Christian too "YOU dunce." Way to shine the light of Christ there buddy....

  • oh im sorry i didnt know im embarrassed now please dont be mad

  • Nah, it's ok. Misunderstandings are all too easy on the web! :)

  • ok, listen to this:

Switchfoot is not just a secular band. their music has been heavily influenced by their faith. so yes, while they may have a secular record, that doesn't mean they're not a christian band. speak to them; they've played for christian conferences, continue to ask for their parents' prayers over them, and allow their faith to pop up in their music still, after all this time. so, yes, its not their genre, but they're still Christian

  • I'm not disputing the fact that they themselves are Christians. That's obvious. I'm just pointing out that they themselves have said it's not their genre. They just often have songs relating to it because that's what songwriting is about, whatever you care about

  • Why has every Switchfoot video become a forum for theological debate?

  • I LOVE IT

  • God gave that boy a good voice:)

  • Hey dude, i'm not a "REAL Christian" as what you say, i struggle with many sins, i don't always do my daily devotions, let alone spend 30 days meditating on the word. I'm sure Jesus would want us to help our brothers and sisters in Christ by encouraging them, not judging them based on the music they listen to. I don't know much about Christianity but i know that Jesus died for me, and that the only way to heaven is through him, I believe in Jesus,i'm going to heaven!

  • what do you mean a "Real christain" as long as you believe in God and Jesus you are a christain.

  • and folo the 10 comandments

  • Actually, LukeJ60, we can't really follow the 10 commandments. That was the point of them. God had to show us that we can't do it on our own, thus we must accept the gift of Jesus Christ's sacrifice for our sins. You can't follow the 10 commandments to save yourself. Believing that Christ died and rose for you is the ONLY way to heaven. Trying to follow the 10 commandments is good of course, and if one is truly a Christian (s)he will desire to be holy, but being a "good person" won't do it.

  • so your saying i could go kill people and do whatever the hell i want and still go to heaven because i believe in christ. hahahahahah you dumb ass you still have to be a good person. fucking dipshit

  • ok, look, i'm not going to get angry.

    BUT

    here's how it goes:

hey, we all sin, whether we like it or not. and the thing is, sin isn't measured; its whether you've sinned or not is all that matters. basically, we're all meant for hell because of our flaws, but Jesus has given us the option to leave our sins behind. So, even murderers, after they've accepted Jesus as their saviors, they are saved. of course, your faith is generally reflected in your actions, so thats an indicator of your faith

  • Yes exactly, thanks for answering Slevin698 so well, meant2live218. :) Slevin, you misunderstood my post. If you want to discuss further, please send me a message. I'd be more than happy to try to explain myself better if you'd like. May the Lord touch you in a mighty way and reveal his truths and mercy to your heart! :)

  • Whether you're Christian or not we still want to do good in this world right? I mean becoming a Christian has nothing to do with being a good, perfect person forever.

Christians make mistakes also. No one in this world is perfect. We have all sinned and we are all guilty for sinning. But just like this song we were meant to live for so much more. We were meant to live for God because He saved us from eternal suffering in Hell.

  • Why did he create it just to save us from it? Bit pointless really

  • None of us exactly know why God decided to make the world.

But I do know that from the start He wanted us to make our own choices. And so we all started sinning and started doing bad things. We were all meant to go to hell.

But since God loved His creation (us) so much He sent His only son Jesus to make the ultimate sacrafice for ALL of our sins so that one day everyone who believes in Him will go to Heaven and be with Him.

  • How could he die for my sins if I wasn't even born for another 2000 years? And to have all the power in the universe and be able to make a planet and create life you'd think he'd be able to teach us a lesson without letting his own son die. Speaking of which, if we're all Gods children, what makes Jesus so special?

  • Saying Jesus was God's "son" was a metephor of His love for us. I mean who would want to sacrafice their own son? No one would right? But since God loved us so much He sent His only son Jesus (Metephor) to die on the cross for our sins.

  • yours and my rightousness means nothing. To God our rightious deeds are like a filthy rag, UNLESS we are saved by the blood of Christ. Take it or leave it, isnt freewill awesome?

  • dang...all this scary religious arguements happenin in here...well...i just want to say this song rocks on and off acoustic...

  • I can definitely agree with you that Christ is more than enough for us but it doesn't mean that we shun everything else. Yes, I love music-what do I do with it? I lead the praise team at my church and I practice guitar for Him and Him alone.

I honestly don't like the way you put down "REAL Christians." I feel like you're judging others. You act as if laying down our lives is an easy thing to do. While you criticize my generation, we struggle through it and we will be strong in Christ.

  • I LOVE JESUS!!!

  • Él tiene una dulce voz, ayyyyyyy, es tan lindo. Amo esta banda!! Quiero que vengan a Argentina!

    Come to Argentina!

  • God gave us the wonderful gift of music and as long as He is the one that's top in my heart, you have absolutely no jurisdiction on who and what we place below Him. I would never stop listening to music because it's something God gave me a passion for.

And just as a side note, I do take my time to sit down, turn off all the music and backround noise, and read the Word and pray. Those moments are great but so are the ones when I listen to inspirational music such as this.
