is there a reason that you don't just use the 'F' (add face) tool instead of the seemingly more tedious method using edge extrusions and merging? (not being facetious, just curious if it does something different; AFAIK it'd be the same effect only much quicker.)
@MrMachack666 I believe that 'F' only works when you have 3 or 4 sides. When you have a hole with many sides, you want to be able to control the topology of your mesh. eg: no triangles. B-mesh, which supposedly is coming to Blender soon, solves this apparently, by allowing for faces/polygons with more than 4 sides.
Hey, is it possible to make a loop cut, like, in only one face? I need it to make a character. A proper one with many little details and textures. Any help? I may show this character on youtube, perhaps. Wish me luck!
@ShpirtMan Unfortunately not that I know of - at least not without a modifier. Blender 2.49 used to have it under the Specials (w) menu, but with the redesign to 2.5 came some cuts. I used to use it a lot in 2.49, but now I have had to switch to the loop cut tool.
Nice
How do you make keystrokes and mouse on your screen with Camtasia Studio?
I´d like to use that tool.
Thanks

Is it possible to duplicate an object and then put that duplicate on a separate layer?

@dohchicken yes. shift+d to duplicate, then with the duplicate selected, press 'm', then choose the new layer. Blamo!

Don't use cuts, only sub-divide because you can create more pixels
