  • Carlos Vega on drums really complemented this ensemble. RIP brother.

  • James can still rock it! Love the song, thanks for posting!!!

  • wow! landau's solo is nuts!

  • watch?v=E5_-VhdnNHM - The John Tyler version on YouTube/ (code left) is right up there with Elvis and James Taylor. Check it out.

  • Oh yes, make no mistake it was Mike Landau on the solo. And he is amazing...

  • all the versions of all his songs are so awsome. i love JT!

  • When he gets so carried away with his bluesiness it kinda sounds like "A churning urn of burning fungus"..way to make an awesome song even greater!

  • Podría haber sido un gran Bluesista, aunque se dedicó al Country, cosa que no me pareció mal. Es una gran versión de Steamroller y esperemos que tito James siga en activo muuuucho tiempo.

  • Top

  • Don't be fooled by James Taylor's normal mellow guitar playing. The man can shred when he wants to!

  • @ericco79 he wasnt the one tearing up the lead guitar

  • @lesPaullyboy Hi lesPaul,

You're right he's not on this. But I have seen him live a couple of times where he is the lead and he can really hold his own when he wants! :*

  • @lesPaullyboy so who was?

  • @lesPaullyboy wait, are you saying james taylor was not on lead, or Michael landau.....cause I am 99.9 % sure it's Landau.........in anycase who ever it is, is awesome......i am not here to argue about music we all love!

  • @soulfire22 Yeah its Landau, not taylor... ripping solo

  • He can sing the blues.

  • Sorry, but this just blows Elvis out of the water... Of course, Elvis has a different style, but this IS called "steamroller BLUES". If it ain't got soul, just go home.

  • Who says white guys can't sing the blues?! The great James Taylor

  • This guy is still great. I listened to him in the 60's, and still do! James is still it!

  • Love you James..."Stone guaranteed"!!

  • who's the piano player? awsome!!!!!

  • the best

  • I've seen him, Clapton, Grateful Dead, Stevie Millier..the list goes on and on..James is a Total Party.

  • which one is the version where at the end of the song he's like "chicken chokin' motherfuckin' cocaine....bluehuhuhus" something like that, does anyone know?

  • yes thats the version of him at crossroads with joe walsh. dam good version.

  • Best version is with Joe Walsh at Claptons Crossroads Festival. Classic James Taylor and classic goofy Joe Walsh.

  • This is a good version, but the one on the Greatest Hits album is better FYI. I just wish he'd get rid of that "hard rock" guitar solo and quit with the goofy d-d-d-d-d stutter thing, they're both annoying. Oh well just IMO

  • I disagree. That stuttering thing is the best part! He's got so much soul and funk, I don't think James Brown could have done it this good! I mean he's B.B. King, SRV, and Elvis all rolled into one on this track.

  • man as if, when he does those stutters, they are awesome! best bits when he does that!

  • Just heard this on the radio the other day... Does the original sound like this? i love it

  • This version is even better than the greatest hits album one !

  • @1981rael i used to have the greatest hits album but it got scratched...do ukno any way i could get access to that version of steamroller caz it rly is ridiculously good

  • @jcobert86 You can find this version in the album with that sleeve called James Taylor Live (1993) Or even in a short version of the album called James Taylor Best Live.

Just type it on Spotify or google... you'll get it. :)

  • Love the epic James....What a great bluesy sound....Nobody like him!

  • mike landau's solo kicks ass in this!!!

  • love it great version blues and a touch of rock

  • love this version! it rocks pretty hard.

  • excuse the pun but that was steaming alright!

  • Thanks so much for this posting! Love it!

  • Definitely my favorite version of this song. Really like the solo. I didn't know that was Michael Landau, good to know.

  • Thats Michael Landau on lead guitar, he just rips it up on this one, one unexpected solo on a james taylor album! he's my hero for his balls to the wall attack, you feel it in your spine lol! :-)

  • JT & the boys need to cut loose like this more often.
