  • Whats the benefits of tube amps?

  • The hair on my back stood up, got a little teary eyed. It's beautiful.

  • That's an excellent rendition of the Tocatta. Who recorded that?

  • It looks like it really wants to explode :D

  • Mother of all tube amplifiers !

  • Thats freaky lol but awesome!

  • Got to love those KV's and at 250ma's respect them! Thanks for the link as I have visions of my electrostatic speakers being driven by a a proper OTL amp.

  • the tubes looks like the musicians playing the note XD

  • Could you, please, be so kind to record both Toccata und Fugue in d-moll in it's completeness?

  • @Vladislaw81

The tubes are QB3,5/750, EL34, E80L, E80CC, DCG1/250, DCG4/1000 and 4152-01. You find further information, even the schematic, on the web. I won´t sell. Another video is planned, but at the moment I haven´t time doing it.

  • @histelek Thank you so much.

So, I'm waiting for a full version of Toccata and Fugue d-moll. I hope one day you'll have the time for it.

  • THE REAL THING!!!

Nothing could ever compare with it.

Dear histelek, I'd like to know all tube's markings. And, is it possible to buy this amp anywhere.

  • * holds up lighter *

  • Yes, a push-pull configuration, class AB I guess

  • wow!

  • Ah man I want one lol

  • You are the man! Very, very nice!

  • NICE choice of demo music!

    Apropos!

    .

    .

  • Incredible!! I want one for my living room! I would love to hear the John Williams "Empire Strikes back" sountrack or Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung or Maurice Ravel's "Bolero" ec ...etc.. played through this!

  • Hi!

What speaker system do you use?

    Regards

    RareHifi

  • PA0PFU The tubes are QB3.5-750. The amp was used for PA purposes, not for HiFi. I remember this beast very well, it was used for happenings like airshows in the 50s. I had to carry that thing and numerous spkrs, a very important job for a drafted soldier in the Netherlands Airforce. I wish I have one to get it ops for 137 and/or 500KHz..

  • very nice

  • compared to this BOSE systems sound like S@#T and I should know I own one.

  • I love the MV tubes showing the actual power going through the system. A FET at 1W power looks exactly the same as a fet at 1000W power (maybe some smoke showing...)

  • By the folks, be careful not to look directly at mercury vapour rectifiers more than briefly, as the light output is short wave UV which is damaging to eyes. Also, the ozone that these tubes produce is not good for breathing in for long durations. Safest way to watch these beauties is on a video.

  • What are the two big tubes glowing on the top of the amp? Power supply?

  • They are the output-power tubes, the final stage

  • at 0:25 i could have that pedal note as my alarm clock any day !

  • i want this as my new guitar amp *_*

  • extraordinary, never seen such thing before ...

  • If I were creative director for RCA, Id launch an amp like this!!!!!

  • ; ) very good my friend .

  • wow 1800volt Hi-fi brilliant

  • So you have this amp connected to a dummy load, and there is a second amp which is what we're actually hearing?

  • Yes - no 1000W speaker system and understanding neighbours! But I´ve made an other video, in that the amplifier demonstrates it´s original sound, but only up to 200W and with a more soft musik... watch!

  • Big dummy load then!

BTW, are those big tubes on the top the diodes?

    They look pretty hot.

  • The top tubes are tetrodes, the output stage, 750W per tube

  • @histelek I wonder how the designer combats the distortion produced by secondary emissions, so common with the short-lived tetrode (which is why tube designers quickly developped the suppressor grid).

  • The amplifier has a symmetrical global feedback

  • Quite a lightshow.

  • Very Nice! =)

Never seen such an high power tube amp before!

  • 3/500 Z triode amplifier for tx OM & OC Phush pul configuration , I is first time see this tube in aplication on BF , Monster...., Very Good....!

  • Kinda kicks my Heathkit w-3am's Butt !! Amazing ! Love the light show from the rectifier tubes,Now my next amp build will have to use M.V. tubes !

What in Gods name do you use for a speaker system? Would love to see that allso

  • Do you have three phase power in your house to run this?

  • Yes, It´s operated at three-phase-power; single phase would be possible, but anode-voltage is then only at about 1800V (for there are only 2 of 3 packings of the mains transformer at work)

  • Nice amp! Just as entertaining to watch as it is to listen. Love those mercury vapor rectifiers flashing in time with the music.

  • THIS IS EPIC :D

  • could u still find tubes for something like that? how old is it?

  • The amplifier dates from 1955. The tubes sometimes turn up for buying...

  • very nice how much for the ride =D

  • Too darned bad we have to put up with YouTube sound quality!

    (And my two-bit PC speakers!)

  • beautifull ighting tubes! must be really expensive to replace them?

  • Maybe - I´m glad that they are working till now... (I don´t use this amplifiere daily :))

  • Awesome! Thank you for posting. I would love to see this in the dark. :)

  • What are you using for the final amplifier tubes? They look like 3-400Z tubes, or are they 4-250A's? Are they operating in Class A? Surprised at the 866A MV rectifiers. I would expect they might introduce some hash into the final output signal. But maybe you are using a ton of filtration to smooth out the HV? Kind of overkill for an amp, but interesting nonetheless.

  • The final tubes are QB3,5/750 and they are operating in class B, 50mA unmodulated, 250mA fully modulated, at UB=3000V. The six MV rectifiers are DCG4/1000, the filtration is rather simple: inductor charged followed by a 2microfard capacitor- the cophasal 300Hz-hume (from the three-phase bridge rectifier) signal annihilates in the push-pull assambly.

  • Wow terrific! What kind of speakers on this amp?

  • In this video the amp works in a load resistor. But: I´ve uploaded now a new video, in which the amp shows its original sound...

  • Please post another video with "Stray Cat Blues" playing on it. I bet it would just blow out the windows.

  • Bravo!

  • Hook it up to a jukebox front end. A dime/song ought to about cover the power bill!

  • Gotta love those MV rectifiers. Great amp.

  • What! No Jacob's ladder? I'm dissapointed.

Almost as cool as an Electronluv amp, just scarier.

  • Wow what an amp - built in light show too!

    Even my wife was impressed.

  • very cool. i love old tube amps.

  • Where/how did you acquire this beast?

  • On Ebay 2 years ago. I was lucky that the seller was willing to arrange the shipment - the amplifier has a weight of 142kg

  • may i ask how much did you paid for this monster ?

  • Not as much as may expect: about 160EUR for the amplifier and additional 250 for shipping... Nearly nobody seemed to be interested at that time on ebay. I would never sell it.

  • wow !! that's a real bargain !

Yeah youre right. Never sell it ! Real gem !

  • Amazing ! Do you have any informations about the origin of this amp; where was it installed before ? Was it used for PA in a stadium ? Best regards

  • Sorry, I don´t know, where this amplifier has been used. It would be interesting to know, if speakers have existed in the very post war time, that have been in need of 500W, such as the "Blatthaller" pre war.

  • Thank you for your words

  • Great f***ing machine! Beautiful!

  • very sick amplifier !! Love those Mercury Rectifier tubes flashing with the sound volume.. :D

  • Wonderful amplifier!

    Is in italy this beauty?

I heard the Umberto Tozzi's song "Ti amo" from inducances in your other film!
