  • What are the similarities of Corazon Aquino and Evita Peron?

  • I haven't really looked into it. I know next to nothing about Corazon Aquino. The first similarity that comes to mind, though, is that the Philippines and Argentina are both Hispanic influenced countries.

  • Oh and EvitaStories, I think you should give the Alicia Dujovne biography another look because I agree with you that the English version is inferior but when I read the Spanish edition (I think the original book was written in French), I liked it a heck of a lot better. The English translation is horrid in comparison, poorly translated & it is edited leaving a lot of content out. I never would have approved it had I been the author. Its still inferior to Navarro's work which reigns supreme IMO.

  • Thanks. I'd try to read it in Spanish, but my Spanish isn't good enough, most likely. Something is always lost in the translation, but in order for it to be good in Spanish, well, a LOT has to have been lost in the translation....

  • Evita and Oprah? At least Oprah buys her gifts with her own money. Evita took from the rich to give to the poor and what she did turned out to be more harmful than good for the country. She's fascinating only because she was glamorous and died young. She came from nothing and all her glamour was paid for by the Argentine people. my grandmother lived it; it was not "fascinating".....

  • What you are referring to here is what is called by researchers "The Black Myth" of Eva Peron. All serious researchers now agree that Eva Peron was not a modern day Robin Hood who stole from the rich to give to the poor. Fraser and Navarro write in "Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron" that the Eva Peron Foundation was supported by taxes and was one of the nation's least expensive programs.

  • Interesting. My uncle & aunt lived it as well & to this day they worship Evita & will do so forevermore. Eva's foundation taxed the population, no difference than what Industrialized nations do now & Eva worked 18-20 hour days, kissed lepers, kissed those covered in lice, Tuberculosis, cancer & syphilis. The woman did much more & this whole issue is far more complex than just labelling it as stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Achieving her level of power & mystique is not that simple.

  • what was the tax rate

  • I think it was one day's full pay.

  • You are a great teacher on the subject of Evita. I enjoy and learn something from each of your videos. Please keep them coming. I am devoted to Evita, no one has ever come close to her, no one has remotely been able to deliver on the level that she did. Not one disparaging word that has ever been written about Evita has ever changed my opinion of Evita, she is a remarkable woman that the world has yet to see the likes of. As I see it,The world was never meant for one a beautiful as you

  • Well, thanks for the response to my video. The only knowledge I have about Eva Peron is from the musical Evita. You have obviously studied extensively and know your subject well. Just know that when I rhetorically asked if Oprah was the new Eva I meant it as a compliment as I do believe her to be the spiritual leader of many and I don't begrudge her power in the least, in fact I'm more comfortable with her in power than any of the political figures you mentioned. Thanks again! Scott

  • Thanks for the response. Interesting to read your response regarding your views of Eva Peron. Thanks for sharing them. Take care, Andrew
