  • I think you should make the bolt sliding animation a bit less smooth if you know what i mean?? It should be more natural.

    Sure, but did you not see the disclaimer in 0:00-0:08 and another disclaimer in 0:08-0:14? I really can't figure out how to make it more clear than that.

    That's because I have to erase those animations anyway, so every second that I put in finishing those would be a wasted time. No offense though.

    The bolt animation is actually much better in the first WIP video ;) (see the suggestions ->)

    I had to erase that animation too.

    Unfortunately not. I actually counted all those comments and there are 24 people that have commeted about it, in fact there's one just below your comment.

    Just to let you know, those are free sounds from freesound[dot]org by Snoman, added in 2005 November. I actually used these in my developement before Minecraft even existed.

    There's a annotation in other video. I added one to this too.

    I've no idea for release time. Maybe 1-4 years? There will be test versions earlier.

    It will be story based, probably SWAT missions because engine limitations I can't have that large environments that could run 60fps without supercomputer.

    There will be story, characters and plot twists. No multiplayer, probably lan COOP with spotter, that would be killer.

    For more detailed answer, check the previous comments(Ctrl+F is your friend), this has been asked like 10 times.

  • I hope the aiming gets fixed. One thing that bothers me about ALL FPS games is the fact that when you aim, you move the gun up in front of your face instead of tilting the view as if your head was tilting to aim, if that makes sense.

    Yes it does, and in fact I've already experimented with excatly what you've said. For some reason I was having problems with the tilting direction etc. so I put it on hold for a while so I wouldn't get stuck.

    But yes, that has been though of, and will be done.

    Sure, there will be various real life weapon accesories added later, but as for now in developement those are irrelevant because they don't provide any changes to gameplay elements.

    Obviously it's full of developer stuff. You would see 5% of that in the actual game.

    It would be a matter of one line to hide that light place, but I see no point for that, as the game has only taken first step for it's 10 mile jorney and is obvisously under developement.

    Those are not part of the developement at this point, there is not even gameplay mechanics or most of the basics done. Environment etc. solely repeatable stuff are last to be done. Making those now would seize the project completely. Place holders are used only for now.

    Yup, surprisingly 1 man on his spare time does things remarkably slower than team of 8 hours a day working professionals...?

    No reason to upload anything yet, it's not a game, just the testing field full of WIP stuff. Everything that is in the game can be seen in these videos.

    There will be test versions in between, but game will be finished(story mode) in years.

  • You are going to be making the animation of the pistol to reload like this, right?

    1. Slide goes back, character drops clip.

    2. Inserts new clip.

    3. Cocks the gun. (Pulls back the slide and lets go. If you don't let it go, the bullet might not chamber correctly, and you can't just push the lever down that holds the slide.)

    When last shot fired, yes, exactly. But when mag is changed while a round in the chamber, there is just the mag change and nothing else.

    I've been thinking about dump pouch to store spent magazines, but of course bullets are in magazine, and magazine only. They go with the mag. Bullet in the chamber will stay.

    What do you mean by topping of magazines? Filling them? I don't think it would be necessary to make fillingsm because they are done before the mission anyways and not on site.

  • @guitarboy543 Guns which have the slide locked once the magazine is spent do not need to be cocked again as this happens when the slide is released.

    Thanks for staying tuned, but I haven't really been on computers in summer.

    School starts soon for me, let's see how I can get on the project now... Kestrel wind meter coming up next, then I need to rescale everything for physics engine which is discouragingly shitload of work.

    When that's done, ballistics with wind&gravity etc. will start.

    Also animation of how sniper rifles work with commentary will be done in between.

  • If you can, try to add the wind dynamics to the physics of the game. I would love wind to affect when I snipe in a game. I would calculate by watching trees or with some sort of gadget that calculates wind speed and maybe even direction.

    There will be full ballistics later.

    I've tried to figure out a way to make environmental effects for the wind direction, but it has do be done by modifying the foliage shader, and shader coding isn't really my piece of cake. We'll see.

    There will be wind meter though(used as 3D object in hands, just like a weapon), one like Kestrel 4500.

    Real full game with stories, characters, plot twists, everything. If the engine doesn't get too slow, it isn't really perfect for large scale games. PC only of course.

  • For ideas, please check out the game "JFK Reloaded" take note of the ballistics system in that game and try to replicate it in this one.

    I've played it years ago, but I will take needed examples from real life. I will base ballistic system on the Newton 1.53 engine and simulate the bullet like a real world object.

    The "final report" on JFK Reloaded is aweome though.

    The game is not ready and you just have to deal with the developer stuff in these videos. NOTHING is ready, just evaluate the principles and ideas in the game.

  • Sorry that I complain, but the scope should be closer to players eye, not too much, but a little. Also sniping games ALWAYS haves some pistol. Thats should be ONLY sniping, from like 1200 m. In every sniping game yet, you can basically shoot everyone with you'r pistol. And WTF, you are from same country as I am :D

    It is 6-9cm away from the player eye(camera), which is the correct length. It might look weird because screen is only like 30 degreen of field of view, and real vision is 180 degrees.

    Pistol is for back up, I'm just doing stuff for fun, like flashbangs, sniper would never need them. There might be different missions to use those.

    Sure I'm a Finn, then it means there is atleast 2 PCs in this country ;)

    Probably not, I have my visions about how game should be and I want no mainstream effects in it. I need a sound recorder guy though and maybe voice actors in future.

    Sure there will be some shooting range stuff to test the gun, alothough I'm going to make the game beliveable entirety, not just collection of minigames...

    Fix? I think it's quite clearly noted that the game is not finished and there is developer stuff. Everything you see in this video is just showing technincs, EVERYTHING part of appearance will be redone 25 times before calling it game.

    It's just the position of the light for normal mapping.

    The player camera is actually based on 1:1 human biped, so that is how it looks with FOV of 65 degrees. There will be differences because human eye FOV is 180 degrees. I have also compared this with weapon as part of developement.

    When aiming, eye is 6-9cm away from the scope, which is the correct lenght.

    I don't see how tallness would affect how far the eye can be. Scope is visible only somewhat within those ranges.

    Hurry up? That's one of the reasons every game sucks today, they just can't take the time needed anymore, they only need a trailer and it's a sell. I will make it as far as it takes to make it perfect. It might be 1 year, it might be 6 years. I actually prefer 1 good game rather than 200 half-assed games.

    I will upload some test versions sometime when there is something to do in the game.

    Nah, I could just add them but the game engine can't handle shadows it with modern PCs. Those are just graphical stuff so I will leave them out, this is by no means mainstream good looker but sucking internally. I will have to try simple lightmapping for the shadows.

  • I don't think the flashbang has enough of an effect to be useful in combat. It should have a longer duration of the white screen and also blur your vision with a FOV effect for a little bit.

    Real deal lasts about 5 seconds. I have never been stunned by flash so this is just an estimate. I will have to add some disordination too, but flashing yourself isn't really the goal so this isn't relative to AI behavior in any way though. I don't even know how snipers would use flashbangs any way so they might be left out...

  • @RealationGames Oh, I assumed that this was going to be a multiplayer game. Since it's singleplayer I guess you can have the AI react to flashbangs however you want.

  • Looks great, I assume you will be attempting to incorporate wind as a factor that needs to be compensated for before taking the shot? If that is the case You could incorporate a Wind "reader " such as a Kestral 4000.

    Well, it is not just about "making" them, I have no idea how to access UV data with accurate coordinates so I could use it for dynamic objects. If you have ideas feel free to guide me.

    Now it is simply done with raycasting position and normal angles and positioning plane bullet hole object there.

    Darkbasic as it has been answered already 20 times :/

    It is perfect for quick small projects, not really a capable game engine in professional world though. Be aware that learning a coding language might take about a year.

    Game making is just not about to "put" stuff in there, for example coding basic AI would take around a month. Yes there will be enemies when I get them done.

    Define "make the reload of the gun more realistic"... Note that animations are NOT done, I think I stated that fairly well in the beginning of the video.

    There won't be any online multiplayer, I've thought about LAN co-op with a spotter, that would be cool. This will be probably SWAT sniping, so there is to be in for bank robberies, hostage situations, terrorists etc. SWAT has to deal with(submit your ideas btw.). I will have to think of some long range stuff too, but this isn't particulary very fast engine to run natural environment.

    Because I like games and making games, it isn't work to me but a fun hobby. I try to make stuff that has never been done in games, and/or stuff I'd like to see in a game I would play. Sure it takes time but I don't have rush to anything. This will be free game. You can read some more stuff from my channel description.

    Of course, bullet will be calculated as it travels in real time within the physics engine. I will have to look into in depth ballistics later, but I will use real data to match the resoults in game.

    How hard it is to make this game for both, righthanders and lefthanders? because i am a lefthander and every single game is for righthanders. Is it really that hard to make game for both? So that I can choose in option menu.

    The rifle looks good for me, because i am used to it, but the handgun is way way wrong for me :D

    Not exactly, what i mean is that, in this game as the most of shooting games character shoots from right shoulder.

    But never mind, it is double the work on visuals to make shooting available from left shoulder :)

    This is definitely going the right way, and most of all i loved the ground dust in the previous video! I made it so real, way more attractive that anything else out there.

    I will more make weapons later on, M9 is in the video and I have M95 Barrett already modelled. Similiar type of weapons don't really need nothing new in mechanics so I'll leave them for now.

  • be cool to have a map editor make own maps, missions , inc.. and also place enemies around or spawn points and the game randomly spawns people between all these spawn points to make sure it is always dif

    It is breath taking cool to look at the bullet flying, but realistic it is not though, atleast I can't fly throuh the air like that :)

    There can be also bullet drop and flight time without any bullet cam.
