  • i think the days of tv are over

  • MUSICA PARA DEPRIMIRSE A GUSTO UN RATO. JAJAJA.

  • does anyone have any good bands to recommend?

  • @articangel12 The Black Keys are a good modern band. also the black lips. Cocorosie is good too.

  • Wow, why I never heard of Portishead?

I'm lucky and happy to hear it now.

    real, young

    art

  • @blacksk4 Boy are you in for a treat! Three amazing albums await your listening pleasure.

  • hate life join this discussion

  • I loved Mtv in the 90's, when they would show trippy things like this.

  • god, their music gives me teargasms...

  • Pure Portishead. Fuck MTV

  • This is a good case for musicians sticking to music.

  • @utddr I hope by that you mean that the music of this film is awesome, as opposed to the film quality being bad. If the former, I couldn't agree more - if the latter, however, I couldn't agree less.

  • when MTV was about music and a lot of times real music

i'm loving the band, i'm becoming a fan of portishead

  • Gibbons is so fragile and beautiful in the hospital bed... i love her

  • mtv = aids

  • mmmm shrimp juice

  • mmmm shrimp juice

  • could anybody tell me what is this short film about?

i love it, but i can't really puzzle the story out...

  • @LoliNana it's about drinking shrimp juice on a friday and being to young to drive and other such disabilities involving waking up with a hangover and having a dumb slut beside you..........wait..............ok yea thats right

  • @CLASHofTHElonders you are too funny.

  • @LoliNana the guy ordered his own "death" :)

  • "extremely rare" videos doesn`t exist anymore...

  • Of the great bands of this era, Portishead doesn't get enough props. What a great, original, innovative outfit.

  • fakat ova stvarka nema konkurencije nit ce imati!!!!!!

  • 34 people don't know how to kill a dead man !

  • What happened with MTV suppose to be a video music chanel (music television) now its all about b*$&, we need to get back our original MTV

  • @anayeea If you would see a rotten and corrupted zombie,

no matter how important could have been for you...

we shall drop the hope in change, there's only one god and its green.

  • @anayeea did you seriously self-censor the word "bull?"

  • i don't understand the story... can someone explain?

  • MTV was actually good back in the day. It was the most artistic channel on TV. After boy bands & kiddie acts brought massive profits in the record industry, MTV sold out. They started reality TV. The Real World actually used be be good: dialogue amongst diverse cultures... then they found out drunken drama brings ratings. The formula of videos and MTV shows changed in the late 90's. Now, I can't stand the damn channel.

  • @angelbeta in reality then, you just hate the general public, as do I

  • @angelbeta

thats the best description about mtv i have ever red. exactly how i feel!

  • @angelbeta probably why the standard of music videos have declined generally, why spend all that money on a video that never gets played?

  • apparently some of the folks commenting are too young to remember that from the 80's until the mid 90's MTV was pretty fucking cool. You had 120 minutes, headbanger's ball, liquid television, Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux. Then came the real world and road rules and things went down faster than a lesbian skydiver.

Once upon a time MTV was not endless loops of Bam Margera and Ashton Kutcher fucking around peppered with retarded kids poorly rehashing Yo momma jokes older than the tellers.

  • @MagellansUnderwear yup, gotta give a shoutout to oddities too(the maxx and the head), and for any of you cats that love adult swims bumps, you can thank mtv for that too

  • the only desolance is MTV sponsor fuck that channel :(

  • I wonder if we'll be treated to any Portishead film/masterpieces at I'll Be Your Mirror next year. This is amazing, classy stuff.

  • Imagine MTV doing something like this today.

  • Nothing left... CATHARSIS.

  • Is it me, or am I just really high?

  • MTV 's rubbish, what does it have to do with this song?

  • that sniper looks legit!

  • one of the best portishead songs!!totally haunting!

  • As if this was on MTV!

  • aired on old show called "amp"

  • I highly doubt that it is rare due to being on $HIT TV AKA MTV

  • @BIRDMANN30

in nineties MTV was quite good, not like nowadays

  • @reneemarieesther

yup, it used to be 'THE' way to find out about things. Now its just full of junk as the interweb has taken over. Hell they used to have regular industrial music programme!

  • Thanks for posting! I haven't seen this in ages!

  • ....Oh rly?

Well I certainly did miss out - was wondering if this video was even available, back when Dummy had been released. Great to see it!

  • Superb band great artistry with their videos very British black and white, Callon, Michael Caine, James Bond and Simon Templar esque!

  • Yes, It's better that way maybe... I very often find the most underrated or obscure artists and their songs to be masterpieces. And I treasure them...

  • Portishead are True Artists....

  • @szwedzkiPL

just like the real men who are not your avg jock/jerk... truly underrated, undercover, yet that in itself makes them a whole lot more precious! if a god exists, may i ask it bless portishead, all its true fans and all the things that make portishead imagine this sh&t up!

  • 7:38 gives me so many different feelings at the same, so beautiful...

  • iam full positive from Portishead...]

  • Hauntingly ingenious indeed. You see this and you know that these people are to be referred as Real Artists.

  • Not quite sure but seems like mind control gone wrong. It reminds of David Lynch' s psychological twists and turns in some of his movies such as Inland Empire, though this is maybe a bit easier to follow.

  • one of the greatest songs ever

  • amazing.....no words...so dramatic

  • Faust1908 totally agree

  • -759657657657859785

  • There is lot of similitude with the track of Riz Ortolani: Confessione di un Commissario (titoli) search on u tube

  • they are so young in this video...

    all so gray, so sad

beth gibbons looks more gorgeus than usual

someone knows the name of the entire song??

  • Outrageously spendid.

  • that is fucked up, a lady told me wen she saw em in '96, she had no idea who they were jus got a free ticket, n it started with this film then the her vocals came in at the end, i got goosebumps jus finkin bout it. musta bin amazin

  • yeah, I liked it

  • Haunting masterpiece..

  • I'm listening to Principles of Geometry (Lazare) and the track "Corvo Sulla Citta" reminds me a bit of the 6:00 segment onwards.

    just me?

  • I hate MTV...

  • @Strategiczny

i hate MTV and the whole money -cash show your ass productions ...those mainstream fucking-heroes such as LADYGAGA,RIHANA,LILWAYNE etc etc ... are killing Creation and Art ....

  • @harissaful ...Respect for you... :)

  • @harissaful Someone thinks the same than me. I'm happy =D

  • @GothicDevaRB

    thanks Deva =)

  • @harissaful

    i dont own a television

  • @Braun808 iIst sogar Besser ...Bu brauchst nür ab und zu Die Zeitug zu lesen und einpaar bücher aufm Bett , hihih ^^

  • @harissaful ,how can those bands kill the art of music, there just bad songwriters/artists, don't despair...they help to take us to the next 'level',

  • Comment removed

  • @harissaful To be fair, I don't think we were ever a part of 'pop' music's intended audience. Morons need their tunes too, I suppose. While I would love for the artists that I love to be making more bank, I think a smaller fanbase keeps them humble (sometimes) and and more able to retain their artistic integrity instead of becoming corporate money machines. The rest of the of the world can have it's cheeseburgers. I like my filet mignon RARE.

  • @ikeaaron

We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves. -Lynn Hall-.... Toyz would never change(those mainstream fu##in heros are nothing but a bunch of *marionette*)...Dont wait for the change .be the change.

PS: Actually am a big fun of the french cuisine. But not a meat lover ;)

  • @harissaful I see your point, but I honestly think that better music simply goes over the heads of the mainstream. We call music underground if it doesn't have large record labels pushing the sound, but good music CAN'T be 'hidden'. It's out there and has been. Seriously, give some consideration to the stereotypes that come to mind when you hear certain types of music. People that like the current generation of pop 40 bs wouldn't even comprehend the beautiful simplicity of something like this.

  • @Strategiczny well.. you tube took her place lol

  • @Strategiczny I hate humans! so?

  • it looks like ERASERHEAD the movie...

    very nice stuff...

  • It's not rare @ all dude, it's on the DVD version of P:NYC. Thanx for the upload anyway. The music is kick-ass.

  • I agree that it is not rare, but an interesting fact is that this is actually the MTV version. It is a cut that has some different scenes and montage than the DVD version (which is almost two minutes longer). Seeing both helps to understand some things about the story... I actually like this version more.

  • Listen to Glory Box.

  • I totally agree, sarbaz22.

    Haunting.

  • Best part begins around min 6:00

  • This is my favorite Portishead song..

  • Come to a Third World country and do it then.

  • So you live in a third world country?

  • lol though.

  • Wow, that was stunningly relevant to the video. Perhaps even, a direct interpretation of the artist's intention.

    Primo job there, SniffPeters.

  • Charobno...!

  • the real "to kill a dead man" song starts about 4:00, right?

before it it's not from portishead...

    or am I wrong?

  • this song just killed me not dead man

  • Well, it is not exactly "extremely rare" but it's good you have uploaded it.

One interesting thing to note is that it also exists in a different cut in the Live in NY DVD by Portishead. This is the cut that was aired on MTV. Try to spot the differences... ;-)

  • Excellent.. Well done..

  • great ! thanks!

  • I LOVE THIS.

  • there is always content.

"i have nothing to say and I am saying it" john cage

  • I think Quentin Tarantino would fall in love with this short movie...Don't you think?

  • yup, i agree. and then he'd remake it, and call it a "homage" to portishead, lol

  • ahahahaha! i think i heard that's his next project. lol

  • This is pretty melancholic, and he doesn't have a melancholic filmaker bone in his body. He would rape it inside and out... (don't get me wrong, I like most of his movies very much, it would be just wrong for him to touch this beautiful piece of work...)

  • LOL why are you taking it so seriously? tarantino wouldnt remake this.

  • just fucking pure paranoia!!!!!!!

  • Goods faux 70s trip hop video. Take it for what it is, and enjoy.

  • nostalgic atmosphere that this group brings

  • love it.

  • frist time iv ever listend to this song

and its like a brand new drug.

    Happy Fucking Days

fucking hate the music thats out these days will never compare to anyting like this ever

  • "It begins with a rooftop assassination & centres on the reaction to it & understanding of it by a woman who was with the victim. But who was the victim? Is he dead? Who ordered the hit? This short film twists & turns in on itself all in the space of 10 minutes"

  • haunting...

  • Lovin' those violins at 8:28 - sweet :)

  • i only like her Undenied song

im not really in to trip-hop

but on that song she did excellent

  • Glory box....with sour times on it....haunting.

  • Music emotionally bright, dark, mysterious, just beautiful!

  • More John Barry-esque than ever.

  • Part at 7:38 - 7:58!!! Brilliant shots and music! Ideal harmony!

  • So... i think you got this video from the AMP tv show, didn´t you ? I just can't forget those green psychedelic graphics. :)

Those were the f*k*n days ! If you only knew how much that show and what I heard and saw there influenced me !...

  • tops

  • odlicno, svidjaju mi se bubnjici na 0:49 1:13

  • P-Magic!

  • mhhhhh.... amazing song...!!

  • this music is a drug...

    extremely fuckin' incredible

the most depressed band in the world, but i like it... :D

  • Yeah..wow..you got that one right...Portishead's music is so bleak that it makes people like Rob Dougan (my previous benchmark for depressing music) look like they're taking e...I mean..it's good..but wow..is it depressing...

Looking at Beth's eyes in this movie makes me want to cry

  • If you like this. Try the soundtrack to the film: 'The Ipcress File'. The film is good too! Loving Portishead.

  • MARAVILHOSO.

  • MARAVILHOSO.

  • bravooo

  • it's no wonder they got signed after this...

  • what they got signed?

  • mmmmmhmmmh

  • What a masterpiece!!! I love Portishead!!!

  • you and me both! portishead rules!

  • awesome! never knew it existed, where or on what disc is it available?

  • i think some of the material is on an album called "Glory Times." hard to find in stores, Amazon it or something

  • yes

  • Sounds like a Pink Floyd's suit

  • the whole film is available on their PNYC DVD. i have it, it is CHOICE!

  • i wonder if there's any other music video like this one... excellent

  • This was awesome. What a brilliant 'noire' video.

  • Excellent video, very GOOD!

  • WHEN THE DAY IS A FAKE

  • notable ! xD

  • Great video!

  • can someone please tell me the name of the song that starts at 2:19 and ends at 2:52??????? is that one on the EP? i would LOVE to know!

    Thanks!!!

  • its not on the ep i dont think dont know wht songit is sorry

  • Most of the music here can be found on Portishead's b-side/remix compilation "Glory Box". It's called "Theme from 'To Kill a Dead Man'"

  • can someone please tell me the name of the song that starts at 2:19 and ends at 2:52??????? is that one on the EP? i would LOVE to know!

    Thanks!!!

  • Wow. Thanks, poster

  • Finally! I have been wondering for the past ten years or so if this was really a movie or not, I have the "soundtrack". Great work, slick homage to '60s spy thrillers. Their new CD is great, tip-hop is gone but their work is indeed excellent as always!

  • whats the song called. I'd love to have it ?

  • the one thats playin in the middle of the video at like 4:40 until the end of the videois the theme song called "to kill a dead man" i limewired it. gorgeous! the rest im tring to figure out myself

  • Great Video, the first time I see Beth smiling.

  • Plot. Dignitary gets shot and his wife goes temp insane. When she gets out, she learns that he is not dead and he faked his death to drive her insane; So, she hires the same assassin to kill him for real. He lets the man in the car, she pulls beside him with window down, he realizes he just let in the man who is going to kill him. She drives away... Its an homage to 60s spy films, but really just an excuse to make a film score.

  • Thank you for that explanation! I have been a die-hard P fan since Dummy and never quite understood what this was exactly about.

  • Am I stupid or are it more people that had a bit hard to understand this movie. But it was beautiful and couldn´t stop watching...

  • flawless and beautiful as always. thank you portishead

  • I liked it... it was really good. took me some time to understand it but i like it anyway.. Beth Gibbons is so beautiful.. I love portishead.. hehe.. weird comment..
