I heard someone saying that classical music should be listened rationally, in an aesthetic way, instead of romantically. Well, maybe he's right, but I can't help myself! Trying not to be emotionally involved when listening to Wagner is very hard.
good one coco! 4 u, the music IS the thing. "Higher purpose" 4 me is plot. Significance of S's death. My opera teacher at Fairfield U. 1. Furtwangler: Siegfried's Funeral March from Gotterdammerung SLOW MOVING?????????? | THE MUSIC IS SO STRONG, LIKE GIVING YOU A MENTAL PUNCH, A SLAP ON THE FACE… YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT HIT YOU! SCORE 9.75 OF 10
2. KLEMPERER - Götterdämmerung, Siegfried's funeral march – WAGNER, SAME SLOW TEMPO. SCORE 9.25 OF 10
3. Richard Wagner - Götterdämmerung - Twilight of the gods, (mitjanus) FASTER, SCORE 9.65 OF 10
I heard this first in the film Excalibur when I was a teen. It blew me away, I got into Wagner because of this music. He was such a fantastic composer!
@karlmoles65 lol, me too, saw the Film back in 1987, then it was on again a couple of nights ago and the music is being used just now in Capt. America
Hahah, yeah. And they ended up getting a HUGE soviet dick up their nazi asshole. Btw, they invaded the USSR first, you cocksucking cunt. And yeah, I'm sure that was their reason. Who said that the rest of Europe wanted these fags instead of the communists or any other occupier for that matter, you moron? Now, go eat a hamburger, these things are not for you.
Nevermind the character of the man, just enjoy his music!! Wagner was a reppellent bigot but he could certainly write some of the finest classical music the world has ever heard!!
Very haunting. An aura of German mythology and mysticism. Unfortunate how this, and many of Wagner's magnificent works were seized upon by the Nazi's as theme music for the pageantry glorifying the dream of aryanism. Comforting to know that modern Germany has by and large rejected that dark past and can celebrate Wagner and the other giants of German literary and musical heritage in a free democracy,
What a stupid nonsense sir. Modern Germany surely is the greatest piece of shit that has ever been on this Earth and Richard Wagner would be turning in his grave if he knew what Germany has become. Furthermore, modern Germany doesn't celebrate anything. Modern Germany rejects the original idea of Wagner's works, especially the Germanic mythology and patriotism (f.e. in the Meistersinger). You cannot watch a single Wagner opera without an idiot referring to "those evil ideals."
Furthermore, "free democracy" doesn't have anything to do with German art, German music or German literature. You say the evil, evil Nazis used those works for propaganda purposes--but you do the exact same thing by mentioning "democracy" although it doesn't ahve anything to do with the matter. May modern Germany disappear soon. Then, German art, music and literature will be free.
