@CounterLogical It wouldn't be too far out to say Code Geass (namely, the Lelouchy bits) took inspiration from this series. LoGH is a lot more cerebral than CG (and much less visually stimulating), but it's the better series overall.
@chobit389 That implies that Code Geass was anything more than "WHAT A TWIST" endings and a general train-wreck. Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable one, but saying Geass had a good story is like saying Pokemon has a good plot.
one of the most brilliant and unique space battle setting: a pre-napoleonic war battle with thousands of ships in place of line infantries and cavalries... dueling out in space with volleys and volleys of fires...
Am I the only one who see a direct parallel between the 19th century germano french wars and this anime? The only thing missing is a prequel about a galactic Napoleon. The Japanese seem to admire occidental (including russian)culture and that's great since we totally forgot who we are in general and how we got where we are today. I've stopped after the 110 episodes are the movies and the rest worth watching ?
@royalplaylist102 3 movies happen before the main seies, they explain some things better. "Ouverture to the New War" is Episode 1 + 2 stretched to 90min., so you can see that they've added a lot. If you enjoyed LOGH then by all means watch the rest.
For me, only the empire resembles 19th century Prussia but nothing else resembles the Napoleonic Wars. The Alliance resembles a modern day bloated American bureaucracy.
I wouldn't say the Japanese admire occidental culture any more than the West admires East Asian culture...it's different and interesting, so people like to see the diversity outside of what they're used to.
@Intranetusa I do think Japanese admire occidental culture more than we admire east asian culture. I've watched over 100 seinen anime and they are usually very oriented toward occidental culture they make a lot of reference to russian litterature , german way of life , French life style, the bible etc. They use a lot of english term and even use some english song for generic or intro I'm still looking for that kind of asian influance in our media and I can't see it.
Japan adopts/admires American culture thanks to America's influence after WW2. However, their attitude towards Russians, French, Germans, etc culture is more like curiosity rather than admiration (unless you're talking about aristocratic culture, which everybody seems to enjoy).
Everybody uses English words in songs nowadays since it's a global language. You see Russian, Korean, Turkish, Eastern European, etc songs all using English words.
@royalplaylist102 Their views towards non-American cultures such as the French/Russian/German etc is the same way we view foreign cultures - exotic and interesting. Just like we eat pan-fusion cuisines or make references to non-Western things, they are the same. Their animes are about Occidental high culture - you don't see many about the mainstream Euro culture of the Russian/French/German starving peasant living off of bread and potatoes
They have actually adopted American culture however.
@Intranetusa Did I talked of the Napoleonic wars?I said there should be a prequel. How can you mix up Prussia and Napoleonic wars? It didn't even exist as an independent state back then. The power of Prussia is one of the many results of the Napoleonic wars(that's why I said there should be a prequel) I was actually referring to the 1870 war. Anyway I'm french ,I had to learn about these wars at school and I've read extensive literature on this era I guess we don't have the same view.
@atomisten Sadly, nothing is on par with LOGH. Some fanboys (and girls) tried to argue that Code Geass is as intelligent anime as LOGH, but NOOO not even close
Opening with Dvorak's New World symphony, 4th movement. . . closing with Ravel's Bolero. . haven't seen this anime but if its anything like the music picked, then I might actually watch it.
@tHeWasTeDYouTh So you'd like to live under an autocratic system where corruption actually is just as rampant, but where personal freedoms are actually less than democracies?
@Ares99999 no dude, this is just an anime show. I just never really thought how corrupt democracy is when we compare it to an autocracy. I just never thought about it, like in the first episode when the leader of the Free Planet is doing a political speach about the first battle where millions of soldiers died yet no one in his family is in tha army
I love that they use Dvorak in the trailer. 4th Movement of Symphony from the New World was perfect for Battle of Starzone Amlitzer and its perfect for this.

Man I want to watch this, but seriously 100+ episodes x 25 (approx) min each =
2500 minutes / 60 min
= ~42 hours.
Even if I tried to marathon this 12 hours a day that still take like 4 days.
With university, I'd be lucky to get in an 3 hours a day, more like 1.
WHY DID I WATCH D.GRAY MAN ISNTEAD OF THIS> FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf
