Great video and a good method if you have free sources of wax.. However decent dry kindling, such as twigs, are easily lit with a piece of shop bought firelighter the size of a pea.A box of the white smelly waxy type can then last months -as long as you keep it wrapped. Hang on, your method is looking better!
you take a paper cup, fill it with sawdust, and then pour malted wax over that. its basically the same thing only with sawdust instead of paper. it lasts a long time.
and BTW you don't need to melt candles, you can get blocks of wax from fred meyer.
@ilike2cheatatgames Well of COURSE that's a way to do it, but some days it can be a pain to light a wood stove. Other days it's not, this just makes it easier.
I make the same thing except I never thought of using the string. I will start doing that when I make another batch. These work damn good for starting fires! Thank you for posting!
I wonder if you were to take a lot of pine resin, melt it into a bigcan or something by a fire(probably have to get a mild boil or simmer). Then maybe some birch bark, or rolled leaves, tied together with some young tree bark string, or root. Would probably have to do a better job in tying it depending on the size of the leaves. Then Dip it in and let it soak.
Would you get something similar to this video but more bushcraft appropriate?
This is good but I like another recepie that uses dryer lint, coffee filter.
Reason I use the dryer lint is you can light it with just a spark. Take them with you when you hike in the woods jic you need to start a fire. They are easy to ignite just cut one open exposing the dry dryer lint and spark poof they ignite.
Take lint in a coffee filter use old wire to hold closed and dip into wax I dip once hotest wax and once in cooling wax to get a thick coating make them by the bucket.
Just like the pot you got from sallys you go to a laundrymat and ask them to save you some when they clean the filters. I use to manage an apartment complex and had to collect lint from the dryers about every other day. Of have friends save theirs ect ect.
We have a coffee can and just save ours in the sealed can sealed bc we rather not chance a fire as you know just a spark and poof.
@RyanIsHungry ok i like this what is it exactily is it newspaper whole rolled up and just regular candle wax and would parriffin wax work too thanks man
Great idea. We heat exclusively with wood out of necessity. I know all about shivering in the cold while building that morning fire.
I have some plywood that weather got to and separated the layers. It makes good kindling, but this starter should make it easy to light it and jump back in the bed...lol
