What it's aboot is beautiful people trying to live a life that makes some degree of sense. Our job is the same! Alice is an amazing actress for sure!
Dont get me wrong.. Billy Elliot was great.. but N2N should have gotten the tony. It was so much more original and more emotionally capturing that Billy Elliot.
you got all their signatures? if not then what're they doing there...
oh my god, im still so frustrated that N2N did NOT win Best Musical...ugh. but i do believe alice won a tony. :) good thing, too. but spencer (dan) got cheaped out by the three billys...i think if billy elliot wasn't nominated for anything, next to normal would have sweeped the tonys. thumbs up if you agree.
haha. alice is so adorable. the sweetest person ever! i saw this show and i loved it! my family liked it but thought it was too depressing so they ended up disliking it overall beause of that. i wanna see it everyday of my life.
I agree completely with this review! I've seen N2N seven times so obviously I'm a big fan, but I DON'T usually cry at shows (at least not the first time I see them, everything usually goes so fast) and this one I bawl every time! But it's true, you won't come out of the theatre skipping, but you'll come out cleansed, like all the emotion you've unconciously been bottling up is finally released, it's wonderful for the soul :) SEE IT NOW!!! Also btw DO NOT look up the synopsis, trust me!!!
"And the Tony award for best review of a Broadway Musical goes to... YOU!" Great review. You should be doing this for a living. Love your green walls.
I saw this last week! I loved it so much. It is amazing. I wish it won best musical coz it deserved it. I've seen Billy Elliot too in London, which is also amazing but Next to Normal is better. Next to Normal and Spring Awakening are my favourite musicals in the world!! Loved your video!! :)
I completely agree with you. N2N was wonderful. I can't really take the Tonys seriously anymore, this year's show was so awful. I thought I was watching the Emmys or the Oscars, it sold out so much.
Also, RE: expanding Prelude, when it was off broadway it actually used to lead in to a version of "Light" (the finale song). I really loved that version...but it doesn't really have a place now that they retooled it.
Great review. I've seen 800 Broadway shows, this is as good as anything I've ever seen and richly deserves to win. The only thing I would add is that it is not just about mental illness, it is about family and grief and love and loss. And it is, like you said, cathartic, and haunting.
Carl, normally I don't comment on peoples videos but I have to on this one. I am bias, J Robert Spencer and I went to college together and our families are still very close. You are right on all points. I felt like a family member when watching the show, and then afterwards, felt so good for seeing the show. Great review, and we are praying it scores big at the Tony's
N2N was my favorite original musical ever, due to how original and daring it was. First show that actually put up the mirror of reality in my face in a looonnnnng time, and as an actor, that is the most moving thing to see. Beautiful.
CARL! I missed your videos so much! Oh my god, I'm so glad you loved Next to Normal. Sososo glad. I don't have much else to say other then I really hope it does well too. It deserves it so much.

Perfect review. Greatest musical ever written, and I've seen 'em all! Forget the Tonys, West Side Story, Gypsy, Hair, Follies, etc. also all lost.

Next to Normal...robbed at the Tonys. Aside from Alice's win, of course. :)

Carl.
1) You made me really want to see the show SO badly! I hate how I live across the country and am broke. :(
2) I didn't know know a thing about this show until the Tony's last night, and it grabbed my attention right away. I really need to soundtrack.
3) You're adorable. I just want to hug you the entire time you're talking.

I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE REVIEWING N2N NOW, BUT WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?
I don't agree that In The Heights was an obscure musical though...I think everyone knew they were gonna take it home.
LET'S HOPE NEXT TO NORMAL PULLS AN AVENUE Q!
& Ahaha you singing "That's who I am" was pretty funny. Carl for Dan Goodman after Bobby Spencer leaves the role!
