I remember hearing this around Christmas season 1965. That's tenor sax player Buddy Randell singing the Lennonesque lead, backed by brothers Beau & John Charles and drummer Jimmy Walker. I bought the Knickerbockers' "Lies" lp back then, but the store stocked only the mono version.
Just this week, Kent was discussing songs that sounded so much like the Beatles that we thought it was the Fab Four. (Assuming all MM fans also follow forgottenhits d o t c o m)
I plead guilty along with everyone else, in that I thought it was the Beatles, too, when I first heard it on a local oldies station back home, when I was 14.

The very first three notes sound like the opening to "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". Also, the lead vocalist sounds like John Lennon.
