  • Hope you're doing OK, sir.

  • It's a pity though you only mentioned that one ^^ That one's a pretty mild passage, compared to the law that a rape victim must marry her rapist, people who work on the sabbath and children who curse their parents are to be stone to death, slavery is okay and you're allowed to beat your slaves, yatta yatta...

  • Hairyreasoner: You pose a good question, which if you look at the story out context may seem to be a contradiction. However, when you place it in proper perspective it is not a contradiction at all. The truth is it was took place was an act of love. The reason man cannot understand it is because man and especially those who profess to be christian do not know God or his plan. I sent you a message which will provide you with a complete and truthful answer.

  • the killing of 42 children, at the behest of a mocked righteous man of god, carried out by a loving God is, in your words, "an act of love."

Context is a very flimsy umbrella for you to shelter your superstitions under.

  • Are you crazy? Does religion make you so blind, that you'd consider even a slaughter to be an act of love? Does it surprise you at all that some people fly planes into buildings, if religion can make you think such brutal things are acts of love?

  • That argument comes up time and again. God could have been even more cruel if he wanted to, therfore he is good.

    That's logic fer ya.

  • The story of Elisha and the 2 bears is not in the bible? WTF?

It's in my bible. Look it up. 2 Kings 2:23-25.

It's a pretty shitty way of life, if you ask me.

  • LMAO. Thats funny. Not that you dont know the passage, its only your dads job. But to claim you know it for a fact like you know every single verse...thats the funzor!

  • Nothing in that book makes sense to me. Just like politics. None of it makes any sense. OH! and I have met up with bears before. They wouldn't eat or kill 42 anythings. They wouldn't even come close to that many people all at once.

  • Wait. . . he called you dense?

So, how many wolves did you send after him?

  • Wow. Nie story. Gotta love that passage as there is officially no christian defence for it! Even the "It's a metaphor" thing wont work!

Good on you for just going home, I couldnt have let that go and woulda argued that guy into the ground!

  • Wow, you really got owned there. Creationists truly have the god given gift of logical thinking.

  • Where they hell did he come up with the 200 bears - because that is not in the bible? I think this is really one of those fairy tales made up for Jewish mothers to tell their children when the children are being mean and teasing each other. You be good Abraham or God will send a bear to kill you if you keep teasing poor Ismael just like he did for Elijah. (like when mom's tell ya your face will freeze when you go to sticking out your tongue at your brother)

  • This is how the Mob works. They send their enforcers to very publicly rough up whichever business was the most late in forking over their protection money. By doing it to a few shops, it keeps the other shops in line.

With the bear, god is just evicerating a few of the children in order to scare the crap out of the others, so that they can slavishly pray to him.

In other words, god is taking tips from the godfather. And that is what xian morality is all about.

  • In biblical terms, it's hardly and exceptional story.

  • Holy crap, that creationist sounds a little bit evil.

I was sortof expecting him to pull out the metaphor card or say that he didn't know that part of the bible.

But he knew it and agreed with it? I definitely wouldn't want that guy to be a zookeeper if some kids started acting up.

"You see, I could have set the crocodiles, tigers, lions, cobras AND bears loose, but instead I just sent two bears after them, just like God would have done."

  • Good video, love the title too! Nice winter scenery and good to see that I came to some of the same ridiculous conclusions as you did on this story! cool.

  • Really nice video

  • I also must say that I love your dog. I love dogs that have a lot of energy and prey drive. I also like herding dogs and crosses thereof.

  • I so agree with you on morality. Religion and morality are not the same thing. In fact, they are at odds. Morality is something else. I think, though, that morality itself has some innate properties that have developed as man has evolved as a social organism.

  • I've spent alot of time in the bush in Central Ontario and never knew the name of those, seemingly insane, little bugs in the winter. Now I know, thank you.

By the way, are you an entomologist hairyreasoner?

As to the point of the video. I'm a life long atheist and this morality issue has always irritated me. People don't get their morals from books. It's exclusively derived from society and, by extension, parenting.

  • Well of course you're misinterpreting. Only 42 children were killed. FORTY-TWO.

Obviously that passage was just predicting D.Adams' future existance or something.

Btw - no cell coverage at my house. :D

  • i wonder how bears are graded on the meanometer. i found myself becoming incredibly angry as you told your story. can you please send me his adress as ime going to send round some bears of my own as he was realy mean to you. god would be cool wioth that.

  • Hehehe.. man that was good. Only the religiously addled can look over their glass and down their nose at you, pity in their eyes at your intellectual paucity and inability to grasp these Great Truths.. and condescendingly inform you that "gawd coulda sent more bears".. fucking hilarious.

  • God loves us just because he could kill us all but he doesn't. That's the reason why meny people worship god, fear.

  • I Love Being an Atheist!! I am always able to be on the reasonable, generous minded side of a discussion, while the *christian* side is left trying to defend and justify the actions of their mentally unbalanced, hateful deity. Believers are always being forced to look like complete idiots for their god. In every discussion, at some point they have to get mad at the logic of the atheist and go home, their dignity and integrity in a shambles. It is so hard for me not to gloat.

  • "In every discussion, at some point they have to get mad at the logic of the atheist and go home, their dignity and integrity in a shambles. It is so hard for me not to gloat."

Now now. It's not proper to make fun of the rationally disadvantaged.

  • Congratulations on another first-rate video and on your patience with your born-again acquaintance. I fear I should have emptied my beer, and his, over his head early on in the discussion.

  • I hope that man has no children! I can't imagine the punishment in that house for stealing a cookie. What a lovely way to tell a story. It's one I never heard of before.. odd that, considering the amount of religious tales we hear in schools... You would have thought such 'high' moral content would be thrust down the throats of young minds!

  • Harry, you should do more videos like this. I enjoyed the walk. Brutally murdering 42 children isn't so bad. Kids need to have boundries or they'll run amok. My advice to parents out there: If the younins start acting up, don't put them on time out, put them on times up. Ending their life build's character.

  • I suppose he could have sent more bears... or less... or a really angry chipmunk... or... god forbid... their parents...

  • He could have sent 200 bears!

    ...with lasers!

  • LOL... with lasers ;)

  • great story, and yes, even with no editing, watching the landscape and your dog play around is fun, or sometimes i just let the audio run in the background while i do something else. Sad to say I never heard of this story, I'm pretty young and was never really brought up strictly religious, just used to go to church which was more of a community than a worship place, that was back in europe over 9 years ago, anywho have a good night.

  • wow that man has some issues if he thinks killing 42 children out of 200 is just fine. I guess his god given morals are just so much higher than ours we just can not even conceive to understand. Man we are dumb us atheist.
