@nomilkforsanta no, not true. He fought under muay thai rules and lost, went away and learnt to thai kick and block, came back and did well. He'd already won a whole load of full contact rules fights before that. I put him above Bill Wallace.
thankyou. i am a boxer and mix martial artis and really wanted to find a highlight vid of a legendary kickboxer outside of that over rated k1 bullshit.
I read an interview with Benny 15 years ago where he said that the backhand punch (or what it is called) was useless and that he had tried it in a street fight. However, during UFC matches I have seen the backhand punch used with brutal effectivness. So Benny was wrong on that one...

@MURKYDEEP100 every real fight Lee ever had, was on the street. and he lost them all. that's why he took up kung fu. after taking it up he never had a real fight again... these are the facts. Such a shame he isnt around now, and in his prime. He wouldnt be famous at all.

Benny was a true warrior. He fights like Roberto Duran, never ending perpetual motion. Benny fought with 5 or 6 moves in his mind. At that time most did 2 or 3. So far as Bruce Lee he was a self defense master like a Krav Maga expert. Survival in a real fight was paramount in Lee's quest. Now, against Benny, Bruce would lose.
simply amazing 63-0 fight record in kick boxing, a sport dominated by thai in early times. benny is a true fighter. i rate the fight in meals on wheels with jackie chan is the best choreographed fight in movies. thanks for sharing this rare video
"a true fighter. Chuck Norris is way overrated - Benny the Jet is way better"
.
Yeah, Benny at least made the transition from Karate to Kickboxing when it started up. Chuck basically retired right when Kickboxing evolved out of Karate. Benny was a pioneer and belongs among the ranks of Ali and Royce Gracie. Chuck Norris could have been as well, but he went on to fight in movies instead..
No one should take credits away from Norris. When the sport of full-contact kickboxing was started by PKA, Norris was too old to participate in it, and as a matter of fact, he even had already retired from the point fighting due to the fact it took longer time to heal the injuries. Norris fought in what was available to him at that time and proven himself as a great champion, unlike those who just talked the talk and never walked the walk like Bruce Lee.
@legkicker01 Honestly dude I totally agree with your comment. However, Chuck was around 30 at the time, so I would disagree that he was too old for anything. I just think he should have done it because he could have easily become a champ like Benny the Jet or Joe Lewis. Still, at least he actually competed, unlike Bruce Lee. And Karate tournaments back then were pretty brutal too. They were full contact with no protective equipment (at least until Karate was pussified in the 80's).
Well, I too agree with your comment, but regarding Norris, I have a different opinion. You are right about being around 30 is not too old for anything TODAY, but in those days, sports nutrition and supplements, diet, etc were nowhere near what we see today. In those days, Muhammad Ali was considered to be too old to win the title back in his 30s, but today fighters like Evander Holyfield has still been fighting thanks to the advanced sports science.
my dad fought this guy in the 70s and to the best of my knowledge is the only person to not get KO'd by this guy while in his prime. they became good friends and benny came to some family parties/ weddings.
A true machine! Back in his day of active competition, few, regardless of weight division, wanted any part of being on the receiving end of his determined spirit and immense appetite for destruction.
@itachicrasian2 according to some early gracie students he sparred rorian and couldnt stop the clinch and takedown which isnt surprising since nobody crosstrained then.IF benny had come along now and started wrestling and submission he would have been a phenom in the cage with his tremendous fighting spirit,a real demon in the ring.

@moreno685 lol yeh that was an onslaught, on a second viewing the jap guy did a really good job dodging the first few combos and put up a fight with a few attempted hooks but benny was just way to fkn fast

the unique thing about benny is this: look at his fights and you see the ability to use his legs very close to how he uses his hands. an example would be, punch, punch, kick, punch, kick, sweep, punch. that ability and the cardio to do it "all night" is very hard to beat!!!
I'm not sure about 63-0 being accurate, though he was truly a great fighter. I think he also lost a bout to Billy Jackson or somebody w/ a similar name early in his career. Anyone w/ info on that bout.
quote: (In the late 1970s Benny Fought against Prayoud Sittiboonlert of thailand in japan. sittiboonlert was not the current muay thai champion. nevertheless, he punished urquidez so bad that urquidez's cornermen threw in the towel at the end of round 2. Then ISKA ruled it as a no contest.
Im not hating. just today looked into it. This guy was obviously a great fighter. Anyone else have any info on this?
Mr. Urquidez indeed lost to then 5-th rated welterweight Prayout in 78 in Tokyo, but he went the distance despite the weight difference. For that he was offered a rematch, but did not show up in the day of the fight. The WKA neither sanctioned nor promoted the fight, thus it had no right to rule it as a no contest.
Why does he look like a burn victim? I just watched Grosse Pointe Blank btw..
Fucking great movie.
Actually a fantastic fight scene for a black comedy too
