The man from Earth was rather boring im my oppinion, especially the part where he talks about all the stuff that he saw. I mean, if i want to read a book than god damn, i will read a book. IF you make a movie about immortals telling storys atleast show something. It's like watching a room full of people talking about: Hey i can fly...Oh yeah? I can lift a 18 wheeler, lets talk about it some more.
I'm searching a post-apocalyptic movie, where the despot of the wasteland used a cylindrical machine to suck out the life force from young people. I think there was only one scene where this device was used on girl in her twenties. (She stood there, tied out.)
I Have seen your lists and they re all great...But im a little confused about your underrated films.... for example as i mention to you once about Tron i must do it again for They Live cause i disagree with you that those films are underrated...Actually those films arent....Anyway there's no need for underrated films or not...If you like a film put it on the same list with your best sci-fi films....Friendly ;)
Primer had far too many problems. They could not even pull off the simple camera trick of showing 2 clones on the screen at once, leading to much confusion. They also never change out of their preppy school clothes or buy a nice car despite all the wealth they supposedly make.
@MrStillmans - what clones? didn't he just keep (ab)using the time machine, and the reason (if i recall this right, it's been some years since i saw it) he had to use the earpiece was to ensure some things remained identical, ie they transpired as they already had the previous time he lived though them.
also i recall someone in this did have an expensive-looking suburban home, ie one of the two main guys. there was a party at the place during the movie.
@JustSomePerson888 The clones I refer to are the 2 versions of one character existing at the same time due to time travel. The inventors have to lay low and fool their duplicates, so as to not mess up their plans. One guy even kidnaps himself and keeps his clone in a drug induced coma. This is where the now easy-to-do camera trick of showing 2 of the same person would help. I had to watch a youtube video explaining the whole movie.
That said, Cypher (on your list IIRC) was amazingly good!
@MrStillmans - right i see what you mean, not clones exactly but caused by branching off timelines (i call them split-ends cause it's like when a hair splits, & the split eventually travels to the gland and the hair falls out...).
i don't have a whatever that list is, i'm not the uploader. i have seen cypher though, it's one of those, for me anyway, that works best on first viewing cause its enjoyment is plot-twist oriented, once you seen it you already know the story so you know who he is etc
pretty good list. tho I would not have listed a few of them under the title of underrated, The Final Countdown, Wargames, Journey to the center of the Earth, Tron, The Time Machine. it maybe just me but myself and all my friends (who not sci-fi geeks like me) all know of those ones, infact most ppl do. but i would have put in solarbabies, alien nation, explorers. those are some truely underrated sci-fi films. but still great list. i love They Live, and Enemy mine, perfect spots on the list.
I dont think Enemy Mine is underrated. A great movie that gets a lot of weekend TV playing time (or at least it used to). Most people i know have seen and liked it. The Man From Earth, now THATS underrated. A hard movie to gain a audience. A minimal cast spending 90 minutes in a living room talking. But for anyone who can handle it, it was one of the best thought out movies ever done.
Great list... talk about underrated, I haven't even heard of some of these films (watched the others though). But...
Why no MOON (2009)?? It would have gone perfectly with the soundtrack too. Definitely an underrated classic, most people haven't heard of it and it got no awards attention.
@ijwi "Moon" is in another list i created 3 years ago "The Best Science Fiction Movies Ever (Part 2)" I don´t consider it to be Underrated... You can find the clip in my channel.
Good list. I only take exception with The Man from Earth. As a matter of fact it belongs on a most OVERrated list. Its pretentious hipster crap. Horrible film making. Bad dialouge and acting. Anyone who has ever read a decent sci-fi book or even some old school pulp science-fiction could crap out something better.
"Dear" rocier you may be amazed to discover that good SF stories don't need robots, aliens or explosions...and that skilful dialogue and narrative tension can make interesting a bunch of people sitting in a room, talking...ever heard of "12 angry men"?
actually i loved enemy mined and man from the earth even more.
Haven`t seen that first movie in this clip though.
But... sequel to which movie? and why is it THAT bad? :D i mean come on, can`t be worse than twilight (girlfiend wanted to see it... and since i took her to the movies i like i thought it was only fair )
Outland is hugely underrated
