  • A beautiful song for a beautiful time...

  • Not a lot of Dead footage with Tom Constanten in it. Very cool

  • love your tags for this vid!!! LOL

  • 1. In the interests of historical accuracy, this is actually NOT from "The Playboy Mansion", it's from a syndicated TV show called "Playboy After Dark"; was taped on a sound stage dressed to look like "a swinging night at the Mansion". Serious archivists of such things say the show was taped 18 January 1969.

    2. I can't speak to where & when Jerry's poncho was acquired, but it was a "daily use" garment for him for at least a couple years, maybe longer in the late '60s, early '70s.

  • So is that a real poncho? I mean, is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?

  • Damn Jerry sounds good. Awesome poncho, especially sportin it at the Playboy Mansion.

    Those chicks should be naked.

  • Jerry has a face full of sunshine..

  • @nobliss1 hes awesome..

  • what a beautiful moment in time.

  • This is awesome thanks man...all I could find before this was st stephen but never this before it :}.

  • OH MAN! check phil out! gotta love his look in the 60's

  • rip jerry.

  • so when jerry explains the two drum kits it just makes complete sense.

  • @PoPPaKiRsCh1324 YES!!!!

  • This is so much Fun! Love it.

  • Very nice find!!! A jewel.. I never knew the Dead played the Playboy mansion

  • The Dead @ Playboy Mansion... haha cool... the sound is amazin

    Wow... listen to Jerry's voice

  • Hugh:I was wonderin if you'd do a number for us.

    Jerry:Absolutley not!

Man jerry looked like a cool guy to chill with.

  • Even in a humble way you can tell Jerry intimidates even Hugh.

  • If you can stand standing betweeeeeen the drums!!!!haha

  • This song is fucking awesome i just wish i coulda been there gr00ving with everyone

  • Freaking Awesome Video!

  • The coffee was spiked with LSD. There were measures put in play to keep Hef from drinking it.

  • @boazzaob why didnt hef want to trip? wtf

  • Brilliant!

  • It almost for a second looked like Bill and Mickey scared the shit out of Bobby with the drums at 8:03 (LOL)

  • "Mountians of the Moon...that's the one...the BIG one up there at night."

  • Love the tags!

  • This would be a very hip groovy party to attend...listen to some live Dead and head to the grotto..what could be better?

  • @chase6470 If it was w/out the douches in velvet coats, but I heard everyone dosed @ this party. look at Phil's eyes on the close ups

  • @freshdopefiend The Crew dosed everyone.... Hef, Barbie Benton, the film crew. I'm sure it was a night to remember...

  • Mountains of the mooN

    i wish to go!!! :)))

  • Ah..squares...Hugh Hefner was hardly a square in his day my friends. If this was from 68-ish I was 13 and both Jerry and Hugh represented cultural trajectories far-removed from the dominant culture...

Sexual and cultural revolutions coalesced occaisionally --at least "these squares" were open to listening...

  • Anthem of the Sun, Aoxomoxoa and Live/Dead

are just the greatest records from the early Dead

lineup. This song is one of the first of the Dead's

    experiments with baroque/folk/rock music >>>

    it's a real gem! Dig Constanten's Lennon-on-acid

    look :>):>):>)

  • Great days gone.....Now we have to live with a Mccain Presidency. Miss you Jerry

  • Sweeetnesss!!

  • This is a such a great video. I had a philosophy instructor who played this to our class one day and told us about how the Dead spiked the coffee with LSD and all that, and also about how Hef later admitted to not "understanding a word he [Jerry] said." Thanks for sharing this.

    ps. Like the tags. :)

  • a real nice guy eh! willing to talk it to anyone.. even the squares lol.. cool version too, wish it could happen today without all the shit in peoples heads... y´know what i mean!

  • "Mountain Of The Moon" (Aoxomoxoa LP), is very beautiful hippy- barroque song, but never is included in a Dead's compilation. Thanks by this amazing video.. cute girls

  • Thanks so much for this video. Much appreciated!!
