My grandad was wounded just outside nijmegen trying to reinforce the parachute regiment at arnhem after fighting his way ashore in the first wave on gold beach on D-Day with 1st battalion the hampshire regiment. He was 19. He inspired me to the point where I'm joining the army, I never had the chance to tell him properly and he died earlier this year, he was an incredible man who touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. RIP ernie boy, I love you and miss you more than words can say.
