  • What's amazing to me is that this band didn't say a mumbling word throughout the concert and were as entertaining as other band concerts with vocalists spitting lyrics... REBT.

  • nobody rocked liked the V's

    all other bands copycats

  • @betojoven The Ventures only had a few of minor singles hits all covers, Ok so they sold albums in that hotbed of rock and roll knowledge---Japan !!! The Shadows on their own had hits world wide All of Europe, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand etc. I consider myself a Ventures fan but I just don't like their performances, just look at this video, the drummer is great but the other 3 look like frightened schoolboys nervously glancing at each other. CHECK OUT MY COMPARISONS !!!

  • @betojoven Sorry but I can't agree the Shadows had 62 chart entries 49 top ten entries and 8 no 1's all their no 1 singles were written by them or for them All The Ventures recordings are covers. It's not until you see them together that you see the vast gap between them (see The Ventures-The Shadows Apache comparison) Americans seem to look at The Ventures through rose coloured glasses because I have never seen or heard them performing well. Joe Cocker & Stevie Windwood were both Pre Beatles

  • Superhuman instrumental performance!

  • Nokie's solo on Bulldog is so beautiful and elegant.

C'mon enough of the Shads vs V's pissing contest. Let's talk about this great video.

  • I love those jap bitches

  • The Shadows sound more polished.

  • Flight of the bumblebee makes me laugh----sounds silly but good!

  • This is the greatest thing I have ever seen. This concert is so awesome and I love youtube for shit like this!!!!

  • @paulf667

    Shit???

  • Mel Taylor > God

  • @barthramone

Mel Taylor is damn good, but he's not greater than God like your comment implys.

  • @museack whatever

  • wonderful drumming

  • Diamond Head was written by Dan Hamilton

  • Amazing talent on guitar...!!THE VENTURES...!!

  • what was the name of that last song?

  • Bulldog

  • Bulldog? Cool thanks, what a great tune I never heard before!

  • Now THAT'S good...

  • This drummer is fantastic!!! All the band!!

  • The Ventures are the BEST band in the history of surf Music. That is of course bands that did not sing. The Shadows were not good enough to carrry The Ventures band gear.....of course that just my feelings.

  • very FUNNY!

  • I totally agree with you terrehaute6670 The Shadows were pretty weak in my opinion.Sure they had some great tunes, but the Ventures had more talent in their pinkie than The Shadows had in the whole body that is The Shadows. Any sucker that thinks that there is even a close comparison is a straight fool.

  • The Shadows aren't surf, so I really can't compare the two.

  • Well, the Ventures wasn't really surf either, but still they managed to pull off the grand "Diamond Head" - one of the best surf instrumentals ever.

  • @terrehaute6670 Ventures and Shadows are instrumental bands, not surf bands. Surf music can also be sung to.

  • @terrehaute6670 The Ventures were very good in their own genuine style,So were The Shadows. The Ventures had big following in USA and Japan whereas The Shadows very popular all over Europe and some British Commonwealth countries.

  • @terrehaute6670 ER once again I have to put someone right. The Shadows are a rock instrumental group not a "surf band" they were having no 1 hits before we had ever heard of surfing, they sing great, they have personallity. Hanks guitar sound is unique anyone could play like the Ventures ON ONE has ever got near Hank Marvins sound. They can have the best "surf band" title because The Shadows don't play surf music

  • The Shadows were so much better...

  • Are they not anymore? I think both bands had their pros and cons. Shadows do a much better Walk Don't Run though.

  • I like The Shadows "Apache" more than The Ventures version which is very good.

  • I like the Shadows but I like The Ventures more.

  • That's fine..both were good.....

  • The Shadows were a fine group, and Hank Marvin is a awesome guitarist (cool shades too).

But after listening to a bunch of their music, I always felt they were always playing it safe and afraid to realy crank the amps and ROCK.

  • Maybe, I feel they played what the audience wanted to hear..to the mainstream I guess...

  • The Shadows played more "beautiful" tunes, if you ask me. Something more mellow and dramatic also with more elegant sound. The Ventures never were afraid to jam, because unlike many bands they were... and still are an incredible team. The Ventures rank #1 on my list and after them come the Shadows. These 2 bands happen to be my greatest musical inspirations.

  • @ohisashiburi

Shadows tried to be a clone of the Ventures, therefore they CANNOT be better than them.

  • @museack The Shadows came before the Ventures. The Ventures covered the Shadows Apache It is The Ventures who tried to clone The Shadows therefore THEY CANNOT be better than them. Just look at this video, no personality. appaling guitar sound, dreadful Guitars. and they look terrified.

  • @fincaman2 "IF" what you say is true, then why is it no one remembers the "shadows" like they do the Ventures, unless, that is, you're a Brit? Outside of the UK the Ventures were much more poplar and well known. You people that have to belittle the Ventures in order to promote the diminutive "shadows" need to grow up and move on.

  • @museack Sorry wrong again The Shadows had hits in England,Scotland, Ireland, wales,Germany,France,Italy, Holland, New Zealand,Australia, etc etc. they had 69 chart entries 29 top ten entries and 8 no1s all their tours are sold out within days of being released.search "Ventures-shadows riders in the sky comparison" to compare

  • @fincaman2

You know, you people need to get over yourselves. Whatever the "touring" success of the "shadows" was, no one remembers them like they do the Ventures now do they? That is except for you people in europe that are green with envy about everything America excels at. Why not just accept your plight in life and stfu, because it gets oooold reading about how all these groups from europe are supposedly better than American groups. Just try to remember where rock n' roll started.

  • @museack We don't have to "remember" The Shadows because they are still current, we are

not in any way green with envy about American achievements because we have

just as many of our own.The Web for instance was invented by Sir Tim Berners

Lee in Britain. I would never say British groups are better both countries

have produced excellent ones. Rock and roll was started in the US but wouldn't

have survived without it's reinvention in Britain.See Ventures Shadows Apache

    comparison.

  • That was TIGHT!
