Cricket is a world sport on a large scale between westernised countries, just because your country doesn't field a team and doesn't play it doesn't mean it isn't an achievement. Uruguay are a good team but they disappoint me. I'm aussie myself and when you have players like Recoba taking on young kids on the Aussie side, you would expect Uruguay to kill Australia. Uruguay on the other hand struggle to put away Australia and only win the game through a gift from the Australian goalkeeper. Uruguay have good players and yet they could barely defeat a very, very undermanned Australian side, disappointing really. No wonder they didn't make the 06 World Cup.

Cricket is a world sport on a large scale between westernised countries, just because your country doesn't field a team and doesn't play it doesn't mean it isn't an achievement. The same can be said about football for us, we just throw a team together, play and do alright. Uruguay are a good team but they disappoint me. I'm aussie myself and when you have players like Recoba taking on young kids on the Aussie side, you would expect Uruguay to kill Australia. Uruguay on the other hand struggle to put away Australia and only win the game through a gift from the Australian goalkeeper. Uruguay have good players and yet they could barely defeat a very, very undermanned Australian side, disappointing really. No wonder they didn't make the 06 World Cup.

It was a training match for Uruguay, they didn't even push it. And if you'd watch the game, you'd see that uruguay created way more chances to widen the score. but as i said, it was a training match for the s.American cup, they just played in first gear.

Spiranovic and Jones (who was the one who gave you a gift). Maybe if we actually had some experienced players on that team besides Neill, things may have been different.

But seriously the game meant nothing, Australia was playing at home with support of all their fans. Plus as i said before, Uruguay was playing in first gear, the Uruguayan coach said it! And yet stats of the game show that uruguay was dominant and could've made a bigger diffrence. Numbers don't lie.

I respect Recoba myself, he's a good player, I just feel Kewell is a good player too when he's fit but hey, agree to disagree.

of course kewell is a good player, he wouldn't be playing in europe if he wasn't. The only sad thing is, he's already 28 years old, Australia hasn't produced any like him. Yes Recoba is 31 but D.Forlan that was European Golden boot, and top scorer in Spainin 2005 is 27. And we got a top youth team that is playing right now in the U-20 WC, plently of future on Uruguay's side.

Well it took you 32 years to qualify to a world cup in a lucky penalty draw. You've had half a chance/spot to enter a WC for 32 years ALL for yourself. In south they have powerfull teams fighting a spot in the WC, so how easier can Australia have it? and now they'll play in Asia, which i think it's harder than playing against the 5th of south america.

The whole 32 years thing is crap because we aren't a football nation. We have 5 other sports competing with football so all our good athletes enter these other sports which leaves our team depleted. We really haven't had a good team till about 1998 and we didn't get through in 1998 due to luck, 2001 I will say we were outclassed and 2005, we got through.

Kewell (when fit is twice the player Recoba ever was) Also URGAY HAS MORE FOOTBALL players then Australia (we dominate Rugby, and have Australian Rules Football. We have more players in the Premier Leaugue, Seria A,and Spanish League the URGAY.

let me tell you this, Recoba gave the two goal passes to richard morales in 2001 that left Australia out of the world cup. Recoba also scored a great goal against Argentina in 2005, now let me ask you this, when was the last time any Australian soccer player scored a goal against a soccer strengh like argentina? let me remind you that we tied with brazil away and beat them at home in 2005.

I suppose scoring against teams like Denmark, Uruguay and Croatia would be the highest since before the world cup, we were stuck in the Oceania division. As I stated before tho, we have scored goals against France, Brazil etc

Either way in 2001 you might've beaten them, France wasn't going through good times, even look at the WC 2002 they didn't even score a goal, Mexico wasn't as a strong team as it is today, Brazil ok, they wern't with their strongest team and it was time ever that Brazil lost to Australia,it hasnt happend again, but then you lost against south Korea and Japan which are relativly weak teams.

Bresianos Goal was good, it was a fine move on the left and the miskick of kewell that actually got Carini misplaced for a split second to give bresiano the goal. it was the penalty shoot out that meant a 50-50 chance of entering the WC, just luck.

Uruguay aren't half as good at football as Australia. You struggled to beat a B Grade Aussie team 2-1 ! Look at the record (Australia versus Urgay) we have beaten you so many times it isn't funny. Confederations Cup 1997 final, 2001 in Australia, and 2005 in Australia. You got a lucky 1-0 victory against us in Montevideo in 2005, that wasn't a free kick. If Australia played U in a World Cup Final (If you ever reach them again) you would loose 3 or 4 nil to us.
