Does anyone know why I can find these songs without lyrics? I'd love to put his music in the background of my videos - after making a donation and giving credit to JoCo of course =)
This song is incredibly profound. "Cruel, Cruel Moon" is not. IMO this is a much better song, though there are lots of other Paul and Strom songs that I love.
i think that the earth is a living being and it predicted its own destruction so created humanity to prevent it from being destroyed. that sounded a little like avatar didnt it
IIRC, the moon moves about 1.5 inches away from the earth each year, which is about 118k miles in 5 billion years(the approximate time the sun has left). The moon is currently 238k miles from the earth.
Whether the moon's weakened gravitational pull changes Earth's climate before we are obliterated by the sun is hard to say.
@MartianSpore the bigger problem than the fact that this MAY actually happen is the people who waste their time trying to convince other people to waste their time to consider solving this problem then actually waiting until it is sure and then deciding what to do.
Except for the part where the song clearly establishes that even after those events, the moon is still present (It ends with "There is always the moon."). The last verse is apparently about global warming and the sun dying... and gravity vanishing somehow, which is why the tides stopped.
Unless of course the song is using childlike repetition of a falsehood because it is "scared" or something of the like. For example, a child whose mother has died, repeats "mommy's okay, mommy's okay" in order to calm themselves.
This is totally how I felt. I used to hate it, but then I woke up one day with it stuck in my head, gave it a couple more listens, now it's my joint favourite song.
@Dogmantra2 It's a song that grows on you. You pass by listening to it between Shop Vac and Creepy Doll .. and then it slowly claws into your brain until it settles and it's an AMAZING song.
@druvirus Totally. In the years I've been listening to JoCo, I slowly shifted from the funny songs to the deeper ones such as When You Go and this one. Amazing how he seems to have something for everyone.
Voting for this song was easy for me (although I think Space Doggity is still the best song to come out of Song Fu). It's kind of a shame that he had to drop out, but it's certainly for the better.
I love Space Doggity! Actually, it's a lot better than Space Oddity on which it is based. Have you ever seen a picture of Laika? She was adorable!
And what did anyone learn from Sputnik 2? Nothing. No knowledge on the effects of a zero-gravity environment on an organism was gained from the death of Laika.
i think this is my favorite JoCo song, Still Alive is a close second though.

That tides come in, and go out is caused by the moons gravity effect on the water.

This song makes me think about the day when the moon will have escaped earth's orbit and it will screw up the earth's climate.
MartianSpore 2 years ago
@MartianSpore Will that happen before or after we are already dead from the death of Sol?
