but with the samurais, or any type of martial arts combat/tournament/whatever something, they are like playing a game of football or basketball, only that they die when they lose.

The problem is, that developers don't want to take a risk on an idea like this.... Its a shame really.. Much easier to make a crappy FPS than an innovative fighter.

I remember getting this game on my PS1 demo disc.

It had only the katana and bamboo grove stage unlocked, and only an endless training match where you go one on one against either friend or comp.

I fell in love with this game. The idea of having a match last either 5 seconds with a flurried offense or 5 minutes of juking, position, and feinting..any time you land a fatal blow it was so satisfying.

Back in the day I didn't like this game because once I got to a certain point in the story mode it would just stop, and I could never understand why because I was too young, but now it makes sense: I would just run at people and slash them up as quickly as possible, and the game was penalizing me for not going "the way of the warrior"
