at 1:35 When the background turns slighty gray-blueish it looks freaking amazing! How did you do that? it reminds me of modern world war 2 movies with the eary gray color. Good Job keep up the good work.
I filmed those specific shots on a gloomy day using the Canon XH A1.
Filmed with a custom image preset that I programmed into the camera. Stock lens (fixed), no adapter.Color levels were adjusted in post. Settings were tailored for that specific production, and its been a little while so I can't exactly remember any specifics.
I'm looking into camera's for the best film look possible, and I really like this video. I can see that you really put a lot if tune abd effort into mixing and editing this video. Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you used many cameras, but what camera did you use to make it REALLY look like a film? For example, from 1:53 to 2:04, what camera is that? I looked up test footages of all the cameras you used, but they didn't really look as "filmy" as you made it, and what program you use to edit it? Final Cut?
I used the Canon XH A1 with my custom look preset (its a must to have one dialed in; the color code used in Canon Cameras is absolute s#$%!) I use Final Cut Pro for most of my editing needs, but this sequence was amongst the select few that was edited in Sony Vegas.
Besides, there were other factors such as camera movement, character blocking, acting and overall cinematic pacing that probably made the scene stand out.
..But to answer your question about what cameras I used, I used a mix of Canons, Pannys and other cams to film the clips you see in my reel. Most of them are listed in the description section of the video.
quick question. did you happen to use any adapters on your cameras or editing software such as magic bullet to make your footage look cine-like? cause i know the DVX100b has that function on it. but the GL1 and GL2 don't.
I did not use any lens adapters..just a wide angle lens for a few shots. I used Magic Bullets for basic color grading, but only as an 'Intermediate' - I used it in conjunction with other filters in the fx chain.
A lot of the frame rate conversion was done in post especially with the GL cameras which dont have a true progressive shooting mode. A lot of the GL footage was tweaked in post to match up to the DVX. It involved adjusting the level of blacks, frame rates, saturation etc.
Aditya, this film is KICK ASS!! When are you gonna finally release this dude? I've been asking for like 2 years....anyway, lemme know. Keep up the good work!
Hi...Amazing job! I just want you to ask about canon xl1...could you tell me what is the setup you used for this shooting? Thank you

@vianegativa85 The wide-shot (with the soldiers walking) was GL-2. The next shot was filmed with the Canon XH-A1.

Nice job man.
I'm looking into getting a new cam around the 3K price range.
Do you have a preference over the XH A1 or the HMC-150?
Is it really just down to the AVCHD and tape based annoyances?
Or is there another camera you'd recommend?

Hey kdydk,
No special lenses - just the standard fixed lens that came with the camera(s).
