@airplaneking A little harsh, wouldn't you say? I mean come on man...just because you don't understand her way of thinking or beliefs does not mean she deserves any kind of that verbal attack. No one does.
@KBoe4 I see. I do not think it is being harsh. I have to put up with people like her all the time. That is, extremely arrogant people who think everyone who doesn't agree with them is somehow inferior. It is very clear to me that she is trying to twist what the debaters are saying in an attempt to feel superior. Deepak clearly said that he has his own opinion, whereas the lady keeps insisting that Deepak said her opinion is wrong which is not the case. Shes a lying cunt.
Sorry if this is a repost (don't know if it went through)
I have a few comments on this one.
First off, firecrotch just had some massive ownage. This is way up there. I'm talking maybe top 3 of anything I've ever seen. Up there with the dick masterson obliteration. However, this one is defintitely a serious contender for the top. Her question was just stupid. Gravity and electromagnetism isn't even an experience.
The blonde woman who hyperventilated for Jeebuz reminds me of almost every x-tian I know. Dangerous people, these members of the Cult of Jesus. Mentally unstable, concealing rage, on the edge of violence, and yet they'll tell you that their hippy saviour is all about love. I have never felt so hated as when I've been confronted by believers. There is something deeply deeply wrong with these people. Some are okay, but then I'm not talking about them.
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord. Adolf Hitler (Mein Kampf)
The most profound thing said here is when the guy asked if satin can work through someone who has been saved...um ted haggard, jimmy sweigart, and a host of other elmer gantry frauds come to mind.,,he might even be working through mark driscoll
the end of the scripture your quoting is "in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path's straight" that is not what Deepak is doing because he does not believe the Bible to be literal truth.
@whitemisa Do you find it amazing then that this audiance are full of sheep and bible thumpers without challenging anything. You are a fan of Deepak yes?
bluebunny....im trying to take in what you stated but your spelling is too poor! how did you think you could even comment on this intellectual topic and not spell your words correctly. I think SATAN has lied to you and made you feel good and comfortable to post your feelings as if we were going to respect it. when clearly you do not want us to understand you at all!!
Watch the lady at the mic, she is hyperventilating and glancing at the christians on stage hoping they will acknowledge what she is saying is correct. Deepak made it pretty clear he is stating his belief and they are stating theres. That is not good enough for her you can see she is already becoming defensive, and even argumentative.. Why? because her beliefs are being threatened, because what she beliefs may be inaccurate and who would she be then? She is scared, fearful of her own self
I think she was just ignorant of her own belief, and not prepared to listen to other people properly. She was attempting to defend something of which she has a shallow understanding, against something of which she has even less understanding.
@jholmes1ashland I didn't say anything about his looks: I said he was a DUMBFUCK who's denying science. 4:45 -- Look at this DUMBFUCK, denying evolution "So sez you." He looks like a typical Seattle-ite hipster retard.
I'm a Christian, and that one guy said "Does Jesus need your defending?" lol He makes a good point. no, He doesn't need my defending and these guys who dont believe, thats their problem, they just dont get it, but no Jesus doesnt need to be defended, nothing will stop Him ;)
i think satin is just a medafore u cant take it litterally,a medafore for unspeakable vilent behavior but not a real being, more or less a judgement one would have apon them selves to beat them selves up over that would be very abusive to ones own self image, another would use againest another to inflick pain to hurt someone by calling them a devil to control that being
that last statement, "look at the moon don't worship the finger," kind of interesting, it would be just like Jesus said I'm the way to the father, well, don't worship the way, go to it. I think that's the point of Jesus while on earth, or what do you think?
The moon metaphor is an old Taoist expression very similar to Buddhism's Middle Way or Middle Path of a non duality approach from the 2 extreme points which serves as a basis.
It is neither this nor that, what is nor isn't but the path that binds the two.
In Buddhism, the human realm (Manussa Loka), is the only realm out of 31 that is of duality (or opposites). Taoism foresee this dual concept independently from Buddhism as well. Thus all phenomena split into Yin and Yang and so forth.
@rockmonin Quote from the Buddha. In otherwords do not listen to the words try to understand the point the person is getting across.Instead of looking at the person look to the higher path.Too many people take words literally and that leads to ignorance. In buddhism everyone is a buddha, everyone is capable of being amazing and powerful like jesus or buddha. Jesus is the best of us and whether we have a bible or not he is part of our consciousness.
why did god do that in the first place, why did he give us freewill what did he need from us that he chose to create us with freewill in order to choose him and "come" back to him?
Wow the power behind "God is as you are" and "God is our highest instinct to understand ourselves" . The problem here is that most religious people believe without really questioning the bible (most have not even read it) they just take someone else's word for it. That is not good. Ignorance is the real devil.
that chick in the blue did not do justice for the christian side..kinda embarasing and lame. her statements made no sense and she looked like all she was really wanting to do was preach... which was inapropriate for her "question". deepak wasnt even attacking jesus. lol. he's just a lost confused insecure person who clearly doesnt know really what to believe in.. he just uses his own understanding of psychology...
Jesus walked the earth and his death was so vividly prophecied in the book of Isaiah (written 700 years before Christ) that scholars thought there were two Isaiahs until the dead sea scrolls proved otherwise.
that is fact. Deepak won't deny that.
there is a reason they call it faith, and it has nothing to do with Jesus being a mere man. faith is the belief in things unseen. you can't hope for what you have.
Mr. Pearson does not understand the character of God. Hell is separation from God and everything good He created. He doesn't separate Himself from man because of his "violent" nature... but because He is Just. A judge who ruled that a mass murderer was innocent because he was a "loving" judge would be considered corrupt and evil. God cannot justify wickedness because He is perfectly Just... His Love cannot override His Justice. And that is why Jesus is necessary.
Everything is either 'proved' by historical documents, word of mouth, or by actual experience. If you say there isn't evidence that Christ existed, then you might as well not believe everything else in history. There is more evidence for Jesus Christ than any other person in history. Christianity is a relationship... its something people experience and have died for. Its not a set of rules.
Wrong again, nobody should believe in any history which involves anything supernatural. And the news gets things wrong that happened that day so if you're willing to believe %100 in any historical document then you are being decieved. And the bible isn't even close to being a historical document. Not even in the ball park. There's more evidence for jesus than anyone else in history? You're beyond help.
bj, I've provided sources to you time and again. I've even provided sources on this comment page. It's hard for me to trust the judgement of someone with such a short memory-span.
I've looked at ever comment you've made on this video- in reply to me, and to others. There is not one "source" in any of your posts that would lead me to where you're getting your information. So stop lying and saying you've provided sources. Unless you consider yourself a reliable source of truth...
"'that it might take the earth by it's edges and shake the wicked out of it' (job 38:13) 'And he shall set up ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth' (Isaiah 11:12) And there are more.'" - Look familiar? It's called the bible. That's tame compared to the other fiction which is present within it's pages. You wouldn't recognize a lie if you lived your life by it. ; )
I'm talking about a source that you know of that proves the Bible is not a reliable historical document. Not the Bible itself. Please don't say something like the Zeitgeist film or Dan Brown's Davinci Code. There is proof... ever hear of the Dead Sea Scrolls? The New testament has over 20,000 manuscripts in many languages to back its reliability. Prophecy, secular texts, and science also backs it as well.
I've formed my opinions over many years. I went to a Lutheran school as a child and I didn't believe in this stuff then. I don't deny that the authors of the bible used some historical events to spice up the story but it is in no way a historical document. And no sane scientist would say with certainty that there is a god without proof. I enjoy listening to Richard Dawkins. He is a guy with a good head on his shoulders.
justice is not impossible to know. regardless of your belief in God, justice is demonstrated clearly on this earth.
put a murder on trial with a human judge. human judge and human murder. if the judge finds him guilty, and then says, "but its all good. you're free to go." that is not just, and that is not right.
God, whether you believe in him or not, operates under that same principle. he created that principle and gave it to you; thats how you cannot deny murder is justifiable.
There is no way for you to know anything about god if he or she actually exists. You believe in man-made stories to scare people into conforming. If there was a god there would probably be a lot more justice in the world. And probably a lot less violence. Humans are not capable of coming up with just punishments for the more violent among us. And many things happen which are not right. That's life. That's the real world.
Not true. A God that allows free will has to allow the choice of rebellion and wickedness, otherwise all of creation are just like robots... forced to do what they are programmed to do. There's no love in that. Without choice, there is no love.
So you've been programmed to think. You are the robot which you refer to. You can't do anything without thinking about how the fictitious god of the bible will judge it. Once again, the things you claim to know are impossible to know.
How can you believe in science and the laws of gravity and not wonder how they function, and more importantly, why?
The Christian answer: the same God created these laws and sustains their function, and that same God, in the form of a man, can therefore ignore them whenever he sees fit. This is internally consistent if you accept its premises. Your argument, however, has no premises at all.
Also it's mind boggling how many christians think they can excuse their bigotry & self righteousness by blaming scripture! This girl at 1:40 really gives christianity a bad name.
See I don't have time to discuss spiritual matters with someone like the woman in the audience at 1:40. She sounded so pharissiacal it's sickening. Her self righteous & divisive demeanor is part of the reason our world is in the shape that it is in. You can't reason with someone who doesn't have an open mind!
"by definition isn't evolution a change in advance?"
No... that is NOT true, that is not the definition of evolution, we are not any BETTER than dinosaurs, nor were they better than we? Evolution is just a change to meet current circumstances, that is all
As a matter of fact, it does. "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father (God) except through me." Jesus speaking. That is a pretty clear statement.
You can quote from your collection of short stories for as long as you want, it will not make them true. And I actually do wonder about the science of the universe which I believe is more than you have ever done. You believe that you have all the answers, which is a very foolish position to take. I base my argument on scientific evidence, you base your argument on superstition. Some people have difficulty recognizing reality, and I am sad to say that you are not exempt from this group. : )
Before Columbus discovered America in 1492, only 500 years ago, science claimed the world was flat, even though the Bible wrote thousands of years ago, that the world is round. Scientists didn't believe the Bible then, just as they won't listen today. In another 500 years, the Bible will again prove present day scientists as children just learning to discover.
Or jcrc, science will prove religious fundamentalists to be children unable to dismiss fables for what they are. Grow up. And science did not claim the world was flat. Odds are it was the same people who were willing to believe in demons, witches and ghosts. Your argument is weak.
I think everybody...christian and non-christian should at least make an attempt to think objectively. Statements like "grow up" and calling religion "fables" is not productive to anybody. Come up with a supported, well formulated argument instead of wasting time with random bitter opinion!
ktrenhead, I do make a "supported, well formulated argument." It's when people spew the same poorly formulated arguments one after another that were pounded into their heads as impressionable children that I say things like "grow up". It is you who wastes time if your willing to devote it to the stories of the bible. And fable is the perfect description for these religions. Man and woman will not progress until they do away with superstition.
Yorranne, man has progressed but it has not been because of religion. Religion has never helped with the growth of human beings. It does however soothe the fear of death and the unkown. And yes it is superstition. You wouldn't call Greek mythology factual, would you? Anyone should be able to recognize the similarities between the two.
wayward, are you aware the the pilgrims came to settle in what is now the United States of America for no other reason other than freedom of worship? the colonization of America would be progression.
Greek mythology isn't factual; Zeus or any god that the Greeks based their religion on never walked the earth.
Jesus did, and left a bigger impact than any other human in history. The only similarities between the two is that man is naturally inclined to think there is a God. now fancy that.
They came for many reasons. They searched for freedom while killing off and taking land from all the Indians, another great thing done in the name of god. Zeus had a son Perseus who supposedly walked the earth. Get your facts straight. People who are easily misguided are inclined to believe in gods.
no, they did not. they killed off and took land in the name of greed. they wanted more land. the reason America was colonized was for freedom of religion. they killed people becuase obviously not everyone would be considered followers of Christ and followed their primal lusts which resulted in death.
and Zues supposedly had a son, but it is undeniable that Jesus existed.
it is undeniable. literally everyone knows that it is fact that Jesus Christ lived.
So if you're a follower of christ you don't commit evil acts? This is not consistent with history. BTW many of the greatest modern minds are aetheists and agnostics. And no Jesus is not an undeniable fact. There are many people who don't believe in him and even more people who acknowledge that if there was a man named jesus then he was still not born to a virgin or the son of god. It is in no way a fact that Jesus lived and performed miracles!
of course Christians do wrong. Christians are perfect. I'm saying a true follower of Christ wouldn't steal someone else's land or murder anyone because they love God and therefore love their neighbor as they are commanded.
and it is a fact that He lived. no intelligent person debates this. not one.
all the other stuff, yeah thats debated and denied. i never said His miracles or His virgin birth was undebatable; it clearly is.
but Jesus Christ walked this earth. not a question.
And I say that you're religious background, or lack ther of, has nothing to do with what kind of person you are. A man named jesus may have lived and if he spoke about the things which the bible said he did then I agree with many ideas. Sadly, he didn't address slavery which would have been nice. But if he claimed to be the son of god then he loses all credibility. And yes very intelligent people do doubt his existence.
BTW jcrc, the bible claims that the earth had four sides and four corners. Does that sound spherical to you? However, the Druids did believe the earth was a sphere as far back as 2500 b.c. as well as the people of ancient Egypt. The Bible is wrong again!
"that it might take the earth by it's edges and shake the wicked out of it" (job 38:13) "And he shall set up ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth" (Isaiah 11:12) And there are more.
Check out Job 26:7 and Isaiah 40:21-22... they say the Earth is suspended in space, a circle/sphere...
The verses you chose mean nothing. Today people say "the four corners of the Earth"... its a figure of speech for the cardinal directions.. North, South, East, West.
Bj, I'm sorry but you're wrong. There are many more instances that refer to the earth as flat in the bible. And you could not shake a sphere by it's edges. You are picking and choosing what you want to believe from the bible which would immediately render parts of it false thus proving my point. Maybe being born to a virgin is a figure of speech. Your logic is all wrong.
its a visual, wayward. like how it says that God's eyes see all things. God doesn't actually have eyes; the Bible is just painting a picture to make things clear. He never grabbed the earth and shook it out either, but you didn't think of that; you focused on the four corners. the Bible is only putting the actions of God into words that its reader will understand and be impacted by.
The virgin birth is not a figure of speech; its called a miracle, which you don't believe in so leave it be.
You must still believe in santa too. I thought the bible was supposed to be a historical document? Yet there seems to be a lot of artistic license and metaphor going on. God was described the way he was because man does not have that great an imagination and likens everything to himself. It's the same reason why almost all renderings of extra-terrestrials have two eyes, two arms and two legs. It's simply born from the imagination of man. Describe a miracle which has happened in our lifetime.
you quoted the words of Job, which is known as a poetic book. the book is written as poetry.
there are poems about American presidents. artistic writing and historical facts are not mutually exclusive in the slightest.
how about recorded incidents of entire muslim villages waking up the same time in the night and walking out into the streets, all having the same dream of seeing Jesus Christ and hearing his invitation to come to Him.
look it up, its real. i would say thats a miracle.
The whole bible is a poem, a fable. That people cannot acknowledge this is unsettling to me. That's not real, it is not a miracle and you did not experience it. It is just another story. Apparently, if someone tells you that something which supports your ludicrous argument then you have no option but to believe it. I have spoken with many religious people. They never have facts, just faith. "A casual stroll through a lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything." - Nietsche
you wanted a description of a miracle. i gave you one.
don't take my word for it; please look it up. you be the judge.
and i could say that if someone tells you something that supports your ludicrious (i'll spell it right though) argument you have no option but to believe it as well.
i mean you quoted someone else that supports your belief. i would say we're both intelligent people who have arrived at conclusions on their own; lets debate like it.
You're going to talk about spelling on the internet? You are misguided. BTW I spelled it right, you spelled it wrong and people usually capitalize the first letter in a sentence. XD My argument is a good one even if you are too brain-washed too realize it. It's not your fault, though. Religious institutions drill their views into children from a very young age.
"Apparently, if someone tells you that something which supports your ludicrous argument then you have no option but to believe it."
The same applies to you. You probably have heard lectures, watched videos, and read books by men & women who shared the same worldview as you... so you believe them despite your own claims above.
future, don't belittle an entire country because of one person's comment. America has the same ratio of stupid people as anywhere else. Where you're born has no influence over what kind of person you are...babe.
Praise God for speaking through Pastor Driscoll! Lord I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord... in wrath remember mercy. Habakuk 3:1

Also has that girl not read 1 Peter 3:15 Christians are pretty consistent in that they consistently disappoint and ignore the Bible and Jesus' teachings...
I stopped paying attention to what Deepak was saying after he said "your ancestors were monkeys ", he obviously has no understanding of evolution when he speaks about it.

@myfacevids yes. she is the proof that fanatical destructive belief is just a cover up for insecurity.

Not fearful, just ignorant.

that last statement, "look at the moon don't worship the finger," kind of interesting, it would be just like Jesus said I'm the way to the father, well, don't worship the way, go to it. I think that's the point of Jesus while on earth, or what do you think?
rockmonin 2 years ago 5
The moon metaphor is an old Taoist expression very similar to Buddhism's Middle Way or Middle Path of a non duality approach from the 2 extreme points which serves as a basis.
It is neither this nor that, what is nor isn't but the path that binds the two.
In Buddhism, the human realm (Manussa Loka), is the only realm out of 31 that is of duality (or opposites). Taoism foresee this dual concept independently from Buddhism as well. Thus all phenomena split into Yin and Yang and so forth.
TofuDynasty 2 years ago
@rockmonin Quote from the Buddha. In otherwords do not listen to the words try to understand the point the person is getting across.Instead of looking at the person look to the higher path.Too many people take words literally and that leads to ignorance. In buddhism everyone is a buddha, everyone is capable of being amazing and powerful like jesus or buddha. Jesus is the best of us and whether we have a bible or not he is part of our consciousness.

the truth of Jesus is undeniable.
Jesus walked the earth and his death was so vividly prophecied in the book of Isaiah (written 700 years before Christ) that scholars thought there were two Isaiahs until the dead sea scrolls proved otherwise.
that is fact. Deepak won't deny that.
there is a reason they call it faith, and it has nothing to do with Jesus being a mere man. faith is the belief in things unseen. you can't hope for what you have.
some people can't grasp it though
Yorranne1 2 years ago
And that is why Jesus is necessary.
bjkimber86 2 years ago
bj, you speak with certainty about things which are impossible to know. That is just ignorance.

So you've been told, anyway. It's something that you can't possibly know for sure. Sorry.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
Everything is either 'proved' by historical documents, word of mouth, or by actual experience. If you say there isn't evidence that Christ existed, then you might as well not believe everything else in history. There is more evidence for Jesus Christ than any other person in history. Christianity is a relationship... its something people experience and have died for. Its not a set of rules.
bjkimber86 2 years ago
Wrong again, nobody should believe in any history which involves anything supernatural. And the news gets things wrong that happened that day so if you're willing to believe %100 in any historical document then you are being decieved. And the bible isn't even close to being a historical document. Not even in the ball park. There's more evidence for jesus than anyone else in history? You're beyond help.

I've looked at ever comment you've made on this video- in reply to me, and to others. There is not one "source" in any of your posts that would lead me to where you're getting your information. It's called the bible. That's tame compared to the other fiction which is present within it's pages. You wouldn't recognize a lie if you lived your life by it. ; )
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
I'm talking about a source that you know of that proves the Bible is not a reliable historical document. Not the Bible itself. Please don't say something like the Zeitgeist film or Dan Brown's Davinci Code. There is proof... ever hear of the Dead Sea Scrolls? The New testament has over 20,000 manuscripts in many languages to back its reliability. Prophecy, secular texts, and science also backs it as well.
bjkimber86 2 years ago
I've formed my opinions over many years. I went to a Lutheran school as a child and I didn't believe in this stuff then. I don't deny that the authors of the bible used some historical events to spice up the story but it is in no way a historical document. And no sane scientist would say with certainty that there is a god without proof. I enjoy listening to Richard Dawkins. He is a guy with a good head on his shoulders.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago 2
justice is not impossible to know. regardless of your belief in God, justice is demonstrated clearly on this earth.
put a murder on trial with a human judge. human judge and human murder. if the judge finds him guilty, and then says, "but its all good. you're free to go." that is not just, and that is not right.
God, whether you believe in him or not, operates under that same principle. he created that principle and gave it to you; thats how you cannot deny murder is justifiable.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
There is no way for you to know anything about god if he or she actually exists. You believe in man-made stories to scare people into conforming. If there was a god there would probably be a lot more justice in the world. And probably a lot less violence. Humans are not capable of coming up with just punishments for the more violent among us. And many things happen which are not right. That's life. That's the real world.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
Not true. A God that allows free will has to allow the choice of rebellion and wickedness, otherwise all of creation are just like robots... forced to do what they are programmed to do. There's no love in that. Without choice, there is no love.
bjkimber86 2 years ago
So you've been programmed to think. You are the robot which you refer to. You can't do anything without thinking about how the fictitious god of the bible will judge it. Once again, the things you claim to know are impossible to know.

waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
How can you believe in science and the laws of gravity and not wonder how they function, and more importantly, why?
The Christian answer: the same God created these laws and sustains their function, and that same God, in the form of a man, can therefore ignore them whenever he sees fit. This is internally consistent if you accept its premises. Your argument, however, has no premises at all.

Before Columbus discovered America in 1492, only 500 years ago, science claimed the world was flat, even though the Bible wrote thousands of years ago, that the world is round. Scientists didn't believe the Bible then, just as they won't listen today. In another 500 years, the Bible will again prove present day scientists as children just learning to discover.
jcrc123 2 years ago
Or jcrc, science will prove religious fundamentalists to be children unable to dismiss fables for what they are. Grow up. And science did not claim the world was flat. Odds are it was the same people who were willing to believe in demons, witches and ghosts. Your argument is weak.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
I think everybody...christian and non-christian should at least make an attempt to think objectively. Statements like "grow up" and calling religion "fables" is not productive to anybody. Come up with a supported, well formulated argument instead of wasting time with random bitter opinion!
ktrenhead 2 years ago
ktrenhead, I do make a "supported, well formulated argument." It's when people spew the same poorly formulated arguments one after another that were pounded into their heads as impressionable children that I say things like "grow up". It is you who wastes time if your willing to devote it to the stories of the bible. And fable is the perfect description for these religions. Man and woman will not progress until they do away with superstition.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
these "superstitions" have been around since the recorded history of man. man has progressed rapidly; you contradict yourself violently.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
Yorranne, man has progressed but it has not been because of religion. Religion has never helped with the growth of human beings. It does however soothe the fear of death and the unkown. And yes it is superstition. You wouldn't call Greek mythology factual, would you? Anyone should be able to recognize the similarities between the two.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
wayward, are you aware the the pilgrims came to settle in what is now the United States of America for no other reason other than freedom of worship? the colonization of America would be progression.
Greek mythology isn't factual; Zeus or any god that the Greeks based their religion on never walked the earth.
Jesus did, and left a bigger impact than any other human in history. The only similarities between the two is that man is naturally inclined to think there is a God. now fancy that.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
They came for many reasons. They searched for freedom while killing off and taking land from all the Indians, another great thing done in the name of god. Zeus had a son Perseus who supposedly walked the earth. Get your facts straight. People who are easily misguided are inclined to believe in gods.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
no, they did not. they killed off and took land in the name of greed. they wanted more land. the reason America was colonized was for freedom of religion. they killed people becuase obviously not everyone would be considered followers of Christ and followed their primal lusts which resulted in death.
and Zues supposedly had a son, but it is undeniable that Jesus existed.
it is undeniable. literally everyone knows that it is fact that Jesus Christ lived.
so what are you saying?
Yorranne1 2 years ago
So if you're a follower of christ you don't commit evil acts? This is not consistent with history. BTW many of the greatest modern minds are aetheists and agnostics. And no Jesus is not an undeniable fact. There are many people who don't believe in him and even more people who acknowledge that if there was a man named jesus then he was still not born to a virgin or the son of god. It is in no way a fact that Jesus lived and performed miracles!
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
of course Christians do wrong.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
And I say that you're religious background, or lack ther of, has nothing to do with what kind of person you are. A man named jesus may have lived and if he spoke about the things which the bible said he did then I agree with many ideas. Sadly, he didn't address slavery which would have been nice. But if he claimed to be the son of god then he loses all credibility. And yes very intelligent people do doubt his existence.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
BTW jcrc, the bible claims that the earth had four sides and four corners. Does that sound spherical to you? However, the Druids did believe the earth was a sphere as far back as 2500 b.c. as well as the people of ancient Egypt. The Bible is wrong again!
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
can give you me a scripture reference for four sides and four corners?
Yorranne1 2 years ago
"that it might take the earth by it's edges and shake the wicked out of it" (job 38:13) "And he shall set up ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth" (Isaiah 11:12) And there are more.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
Check out Job 26:7 and Isaiah 40:21-22... they say the Earth is suspended in space, a circle/sphere...
The verses you chose mean nothing. Today people say "the four corners of the Earth"... its a figure of speech for the cardinal directions.. North, South, East, West.
bjkimber86 2 years ago
Bj, I'm sorry but you're wrong. There are many more instances that refer to the earth as flat in the bible. And you could not shake a sphere by it's edges. You are picking and choosing what you want to believe from the bible which would immediately render parts of it false thus proving my point. Maybe being born to a virgin is a figure of speech. Your logic is all wrong.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
its a visual, wayward. like how it says that God's eyes see all things.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
You must still believe in santa too. I thought the bible was supposed to be a historical document? Yet there seems to be a lot of artistic license and metaphor going on. God was described the way he was because man does not have that great an imagination and likens everything to himself. It's the same reason why almost all renderings of extra-terrestrials have two eyes, two arms and two legs. It's simply born from the imagination of man. Describe a miracle which has happened in our lifetime.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
you quoted the words of Job, which is known as a poetic book. the book is written as poetry.
there are poems about American presidents. artistic writing and historical facts are not mutually exclusive in the slightest.
how about recorded incidents of entire muslim villages waking up the same time in the night and walking out into the streets, all having the same dream of seeing Jesus Christ and hearing his invitation to come to Him.
look it up, its real. i would say thats a miracle.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
The whole bible is a poem, a fable. That people cannot acknowledge this is unsettling to me. That's not real, it is not a miracle and you did not experience it. It is just another story. Apparently, if someone tells you that something which supports your ludicrous argument then you have no option but to believe it. I have spoken with many religious people. They never have facts, just faith. "A casual stroll through a lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything." - Nietsche
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
i have an option to believe it.
you wanted a description of a miracle. i gave you one.
don't take my word for it; please look it up. you be the judge.
and i could say that if someone tells you something that supports your ludicrious (i'll spell it right though) argument you have no option but to believe it as well.
i mean you quoted someone else that supports your belief. i would say we're both intelligent people who have arrived at conclusions on their own; lets debate like it.
Yorranne1 2 years ago
You're going to talk about spelling on the internet? You are misguided. BTW I spelled it right, you spelled it wrong and people usually capitalize the first letter in a sentence. XD My argument is a good one even if you are too brain-washed too realize it. It's not your fault, though. Religious institutions drill their views into children from a very young age.
waywardwatchdog1 2 years ago
"Apparently, if someone tells you that something which supports your ludicrous argument then you have no option but to believe it."
The same applies to you. You probably have heard lectures, watched videos, and read books by men & women who shared the same worldview as you... so you believe them despite your own claims above.
