Also Day9, about the stone program thing, could it be the other guy's program is better?
Because it's like you are saying it's better to keep harassing and keep his econ down than build up your own econ to the point you can overwhelm the other player. But as we know both works and it all come down to player skill in the end.
The two strategy, what's the difference? Sure the second one lose to a 4 gate, but the first one lose to a pure econ play from P, he can double expand easily when you place down 5 bunker.
weight and attractiveness are not as exclusive as u suggest. u never seen a fat girl lose weight and look hotter? or more commonly a hot girl gain weight and look dumpy?
@dreaminginnoother Yes but it's not true that the skinnier you get, the hotter you get. I'd take a 100 pound woman anyday over a, say, 70 pound one whose ribs stick out
Humans are the most intelligent animals on earth. No discussion about that. Of course you can use an uncommon definition of intelligence, but by the common definition of it clearly the human wins.
i real about things like that in engineering design class (recommended literature). But in that class we had to die death of powerpoint, attacked by totally unimportant information not related to these things. thank god someone recommended books that are actually better (and faster to absorb) than our student torturers.
@Petr3y if by "essential" u mean, if u got absolutely nothing better to do then u should consider watching this cuz u might pick up some anecdotal ideas that u still have to figure out how to practically apply to SC2, then yeah, this is an essential video to watch.
I prefer these types of dailies to the regular game analyses. Sean, if you're ever in WI, we're gettin' some Leine's (beer) together!! Madison, woot woot.
Day9, the things you say are really nice but you should also mention that questioning your gameplay shouldn't lead you to believe that you are never good enough, because that might lead to a lack of confidence, and you need confidence in order to play well. Other than that I agree, constantly trying to improve even when you think you are doing great is really important. :)
It's so awesome how useful this is for my job right now ;) I'm a "to be" teacher in elementary school and soon I'll have my exams with scary examiners sitting in my classroom while I'm teaching. And ANSWERING THE DAMN RIGHT QUESTIONS helps me to solve a lot of problems while planning my "exam day lesson"! Thanks a bunch!
I knew intuitively about every case except the last one - because that's how I function. Answer the right question... This, is probably the biggest improvement I can go for currently, thanks you :)
That hotel thing bothered me, so you basically treat the symptoms and not the disiese ?
It's like having a restaurant where your cook picks his nose while preparing the food, and people complain about it so instead of firing the guy and getting someone who follows basic higiene rules you instead close off the kitchen so clients can't look inside anymore.
That will fix the complaints yes, but it won't fix the real issue.
@neveSykcuL he is specifically talking that it is important to answer the right questions i.e: how to stop the complaints. so in theory you are right but this is not a real-life example you hve given but a question about morale, standards, rules etc. etc. the real issue in your example and the hotel is the complaints. to get rid of that is important to you, nothing else. it is also more of a metaphor, so you shouldn't bother that much with the detail.
@neveSykcuL in the hotel example, the issue is not that the hotel doesnt work right, its that the customers complains that it doesnt work right, yet when the mirrors got installed, no one feels that the hotel is at fault anymore so the issue was solved. in your example, your cook is doesnt function correctly.
@btocoolman11 yes its an assumption but the idea with this "never flawed" is not that you should assume that these things are never flawed. Its about the fact that those things that you think are flawed are game mechanics or current meta game state that you have no control over at that point in time. So by assuming it isnt flawed, you are forced to look at things that you can actively control to fix your problem instead of complaining about something is wrong and make no progress.
Humans seem to have the urge to improve things. Prehistoric hand-axes were made by repeatedly chipping small flakes off pebbles of flint with other hard objects. Million-year-old examples of these have been found that give the impression of being ruined by being chipped just one time too many. That pang of regret we have probably all felt after spoiling something by adding that unnecessary final touch was first faced by Ugg in his cave
@labobo no you make a bad asumption a flawed axe can still become a good skinning knive and with this insight the smartes ug in his cave can get better optimized axes and knives with the same flint recources and invested engergy eventualie getting more energy efficient woodchoppinm and skinning. allowing him to spend more team learning and collecting high protein food making us the most intelegent beings on this planet(or not) its about risk managment not about regret
@weswes666 lol, it was (fire) cooked food and social interaction that made the human brain grow. Go back to school !

@mehhole he said probably not on this video that workers are not included, and if he pick queen, just dont do mass queens, u can still get 1 queen per hatch
day9, you are a huge inspiration to everyone following you. you teach the absolute right values for competetive play and life. the community will always be behind you and support you and i hope you get just the best for the rest of your life.
thank you for this daily. This is one of the most insightful videos I've seen in awhile. Thank you for organizing these ideas into something that is so easy to apply to everything, not just for competition. I've been thinking about this with learning new things and staying on top of my career in 3d work. I have to constantly learn, can't stay stagnant, but you also can't get caught up in the wealth of knowledge out there or you'll go crazy. This has cleared some things up for me
the mancala story made me laugh, because had my sister been in the tournament she would have won...she played that game so much in grade school that she knows a formula to NEVER lose, she can only win or tie.
Its funny, you made me notice how much of a Hippocratic I am! I live by your opining line "Don't say 'If its not broke, don't fix it', just because it works doesn't mean its perfect, always look to improve it." but I have been doing so well with zerg as of late that I thought it would carry me from high bronze to high silver... but never question the master Day[9]
@SturFriedBrains *hypocrite, Hipprocratic oath is something taken by doctors ;D I'm just the same though, I rush 3 base make mutas and win 2/3 games, and I've painted myself into a corner really because I don't feel comfortable trying out new tactics because I just feel like I'm going to lose :p
by the way in the fundaymonday topic whouldnt it be rather funny if, for a zerg player, they siad u may not build roaches or zerglings. LOL 6pool to muta infestor? or just mass spines ? ^^ gonna see what i can do with that restriction in ladder ; )
About 10% of the ppl watching you do this awesome daily have but a slight idea of what you are saying.
5% of us know what you mean but will never use it.
2% of us will learn from what you teach and even see flaws in your resoning.
The 83% that are left (me included ^^) watch you, thinking that what you say sounds smart, and thereby is awesome! If u ask us 10sec later what this was about, we will say : "well he spoke of some riddle's and stuff".
"Beat the people and make them use the staircase because they need to lose weight because it will make them prettier." Still think that's the best solution.
Dear Sean, I'm a top-notch yugioh player and judge. I understand my game up to a level on which I can see how much you understand your game and compare the thought processes, logic and mechanics. More and more I feel like there is incredibly much in common between all competitive games. I am proud to say myself that I have gone by the assumptions, but what you showed here was amazing. You are an inspiration to every competitive player, nomatter the game. Love from snowy Bulgaria! <3<3
@shadowcars I'm a Johnny/Spike M:tG player and I got the same vibe from watching this vid. I most loved his section on "Assumptions" most, I had one deck that played very heavily from the graveyard, so one player's "Assumption" was that "Hey, he has some very heavy graveyard play... If I can remove his graveyard, he's toast." But I designed the deck using land cycling cards to send creatures to my graveyard and keep my mana flowing... so I was able to start playing creatures from my hand.
@rexbonez2 It's really complicated, it's a whole other cosmos. I am now twenty years old, being the one of the very younges international judges. I can only advice you to follow konami's coverage forum. There you can find VOD's, featured matches, player profiles, top decklists etc. PM me for more detail if you want.
I just wish I didn't insist on playing as random. It makes learning even harder and I'm not a good learner... but it's just so satisfying to get better with all the races...

@Schandro8 Intelligence isn't what you can make or build. Have you seen what ants or birds can build ?
It is how you behave.
FYI the definition of intelligence is still VERY unclear.
Scientists are still working on that problem.
"if you think the human is not the most intelligent."
By sheer brain capacity and volume, elephants have the biggest on land.
By pre-frontal cortex neural count the whale (i think was) winner here.
labobo 1 month ago
@Schandro8 Human is an animal, that's a fact.
Humans are doing the same thing now as 70 000 years ago.
Humans are very much still controlled by emotions and basic instincts. Such as greed, hate, love, and above all fear, etc..
Because humans can make cars doesn't make us intelligent.
Even monkeys can make cars if taught to.
Btw other animals do have language too. google it !

Thank you for beliving in us ^^

Day9, can you teach Calculus? I would actually understand Mean Value Theorem and Derivative graphs if you explained it.

I dont think Sean understands just how smart he actually is. He could make some real nice money off of material like this.

@shadowcars I used to play yugioh a ton when i was a kid... i was just wondering how your tournament work work. Like how to pick the decks in stuff.
