If they had tried this record in 84 with elliott in better form and Ovett, without the troubles he suffered in L.A also not on a windswept track. They would easily have cracked 7 minutes and probably would still stand to day as a fitting tribute to a great era of middle distance running.Coe,Ovett,Cram And Elliott.
"And Sebastian Coe's time, which won't be recognised as such......." ???????? Thanks a million for posting but did you really have to end it there? What was his time?
It was 1:43.9 on the commentary, (later officially given as 1:44.01) after going through 200m in 23.8 and 400m in 49.1, in very windy conditions. The fastest 800m set in a "proper" race that season was Cram's 1:44.45 (closely followed by Coe's Zurich run of 1:44.48, easing up over the last 30m). One can see that Coe took over from practically a standing start, so I would say this "solo" run was superior to Cram's .
the 4x800 is the new 4x400:)

コー選手は存在感がすごかったですね。日本からもこんな選手がでてくると、陸上界も盛り上がるのですが。

Yeah, if they did it in '83 or '84 with "the Beatles" (Coe, Cram, Elliott and Ovett) and everyone was fit, they would've smashed 7min.

Great advert for UK middle distance running in the 80's! Shame Ovett was injured, otherwise it might have gon close to 7 mins and might still stand!
