  • i want to join one of these programs so much

  • Cal is Wet!!)

    Thumbs Up.

  • ok... @babe25able you must be black. noone else could have played over two thousand five hundred games consecutively sick and all heplayed. best player ever in many peoples opinion. he was six four two hundred twenty somethin lbs as a shortstop. ozzie smith was black, small, light. he was fast because he was black. made me wana puke watchin someone do backflips all the way to their position when kids are watching. cocky bastards like that make me sick..

  • ...I'm done.

    haha showoff

  • found baseball card...how much yee want for it?

  • Cal is still a kid at heart. Simply hitting balls off a tee and teaching the game he loves.

  • that tampa guy is a idioit can you honestly say he is one of the greatest ever?? wow

  • 2:21 SOUNDS LIKE PORN--he just busted a nut

  • yup!

  • man were any of you guys alive to see him play short. stealing bases and range at short are related to first step quickness, but if you ever saw this guy track a ground ball or pop unreal! esp. to his left

  • @babe25able , I saw him play, he was slow. He was know for his hitting for a shortstop not his awesome defense. He was sure handed, did extremely well with balls he did get to. Go watch videos of Ozzie Smith fielding short, there was a world of difference between those two. People love to fall into the mind set of his postioning as if it was ESP, there is no such thing. Cal played a position that should be reserved on for quick and speedy players.

  • one of the best to ever play the game!

  • What a big, wonderful befind Rip has...

  • BEHIND, that is...

  • He might be able to teach so hitting but I bet he couldn't teach stealing bases. Want proof see his total career SB- 36 and thrown out 39

He was slow. Everyone believes he had incredible range at SS when how can one if you aren't fast. One of most overrated person in baseball history.

  • @Tampa370 Your a clown , go take some test -E like your favorite players.. the true idiots cant stand the fact that Cal put up great numbers and played great defense .. while being clean... you just hate it dont you..

  • @Shredboy1,It's You're a clown. I don't hate Ripken, just don't go all giddy over a .276 hitter and one who was a big man, go look at the very top HR hitter all time, he's as big or bigger than most of them. Then, look at his career stolen bases, a whopping 36 over 3000 games played. I love it when people say he was fast enough to get to balls hit hard into the hole yet when it comes to stealing a base he losted that speed ? It's BS.

  • @Tampa370

He hit 400 HRs and 3000 Hits. Only 8 players have done that. Oh yeah, and he played 2632 games without missing one....and this is all while playing SS. Besides pitching and catching, shortstop is the most physically demanding position. Cal had 3 errors in 1990! Only 8 errors in 1989! He's tenth all time in fielding percentage. Great Hitting, great fielding, and he played 2632 games in a row. He's worth getting giddy over.

  • are we supose to take 5 sec on one foot in a real game or what

  • Comment removed

  • Red skins fan. Who is this i played on the aberdeen arsenal. And the name is now called under armour heat. Because under armour sponsored us

  • i play for the aberdeen arsenal and Cal is one of our coaches im good friends with his son look us up

  • 2:20-2:23 sounds like porn

  • 1:24-1:28...now that's a GREAT ass!

  • im going to a cal ripken tournament on fathers day weekend

  • that whole load thing will never work when the ball is coming 90+

  • ok well why dont you look at every major league player in the game and rethink what you have posted. im not tryin to be mean by any stretch and i mean this in the nicest way, but that was about the dumbest comment i have ever read. just look at some swings and get back to me.

  • dude... u load before the ball is released

  • Cal was the best that ever played baseball. 400 home runs, 3000 hits, gold gloves, MVP awards, and he was the IRON BIRD!!!

    GO ORIOLES!!!

  • Best to ever play baseball ??

Here read this...Though not a flashy fielder, Ripken displayed excellent fundamentals, and studied batters and even his own pitching staff so he could position himself to compensate for his lack of physical speed, even calling pitches at times.>>

People speak of him like he had ESP. He was slow, 36 stolen bases in his career(one of the longest ever)

Ask yourself if he needed to position himself because of lack of speed then what happens when he isn't in position?

  • I tell what happens it's a base hit because he doesn't have to speed to compensate for not being in position for that play.

People speak of Cal as being smart knowing where balls were going be hit through studying hitter and pitcher yet when it comes to being smart enough to read pitchers and stealing bases he didn't have that smarts ? Doesn't add up, he was slow and couldn't steal bases and slow to get to ball out of his positing.

    Not one of the greatest.

  • will people just stop bashing on cal?

I mean seriously, he was an amazing ball player. Which is why he got inducted into the hall of fame.

Its so cool that hes helping kids improve their skills, hes a great guy.

  • That is a terrific softball swing. I bet I could have struck him out in his prime 9-10 times. All that weight shift makes you a sucker for the change.

  • let the kids try cal, fuckin douche. Lol.

  • Cal, you need to invite your good friend Jimmy Rice from the Red Sox to help out... You and Jimmy together would be a wonderful demonstration!!!

  • O-ver-rated! Clap clap clapclapclap.

  • Wow, this video should be flagged for hotness! Swing that bat, Cal!

  • I was there During the Clinic he preformed in the Bronx NYC.Hes A Very Humble guy ..BTW His Brother billy is Hilarious ..He mocked The crap out of the way Jeter Feilds

  • Remember Billy's FU bat Fleer card?

  • YUP

  • what a lucid response.

  • i try

  • You know who i think is really overated is Craig Biggio...he's supposed to go to the hall, when guys like Andre Dawdson are waiting. 3000 hits shouldn't make someone automatic.

  • Dawson... Andre deserves his time, but what about Jimmy Rice???

  • anyone with 3000 hits probably also has a lot of RBI, and other big numbers too...

  • Overrated

  • Overrated? 3,184 hits fifth all time, 431 hrs. An uncontested work ethic and obviously the record for most consectutive games. Ten straight years with over 20 hrs and 80 rbi's. Batted .340 at the age of 39. He had over 90 rbi's eight times and over 24 hrs nine times. If anything I think he's underrated.

  • his career hits are 14th all time not fifth.

He was good. I think if he took a break once in while he would have put up even better seasons. he had about 4-5 great seasons the rest were decent-but he was consistent and when you play for a long time the numbers add up. the .340 year was a half season.

  • hitting hr w/ a metal bat should is a glorified ground rule double

  • well actually the cameras came wen he came dickcheese lol

  • well actually the cameras came wen he came dickcheese lol

  • dude let the kids practice... ohhhh

  • actually they came to work lear from ripken

  • sorry, gally, but there is nothing offensive about that statement. it's true. who are u to dictate anything?

  • dear youtube,

please take down all comments from any man referring to cal ripken's ass as beautiful. thank you.

  • lol u can say that again, mikey42! cal has got one big, round beautiful ass, possibly one of the biggest i've ever seen on a man. it's all you can see!

  • HOT!

  • mutha fucka hes teaching kids they use metal bats u bitch

  • How about using a WOOD bat Cal u clown!!!

  • i went to the cal ripken camp and saw him there doing this but he only came when the cameras came

  • I'd never learn a damn thing because I'd be staring in amazement at Cal's big, beautiful behind.

  • I teach children and some of you say this method nothing to do with understanding how to hit. It does have a lot to do with how a child learns. Cal is doing the right thing - Slow, calm talking, modeling - It is a great teacher.

I do not bottom out my teaching just because they are kids.

  • Sorry - some spelling erroes!

  • theboiwonder is dumb folks.....its natural to do that.........GO BRAVES!

  • great too see this one. why cuz the man still has a fabulous behind. thanks for the rear view shots.i love it!!

  • you gotta remember cal is a major league ball player not just average kid who plays little league what he teaches young kids is crazy it wont work! it works for him cuz he is a great fuckin athlete kids who wanna learn to use there lower half should stick with rotational hitting

  • Thank You.

  • Cal, it's good to see you continue to give back as you did when I was fortunate enough to help Lamar North out with the Orioles. Lamar gave me two of the collector Media Guides of your year eclipsing the great, late, Lou Gehrig. God will bless you for what your doing to help our future generations in the capacity of education and learning about this great game of ours. peace shep

  • He is absolutely right, and I have no idea how someone could argue against Cal Ripken, or every other major league hitter.

  • I have hit with several pro players in the offseason especially, and this is exactly the type of stuff they do and the stuff they talk about. They start off by working on a tee, and exaggerating their movements. They really focus on getting their lower half involved off a tee. They do something slower and exagerrated just like Ripken did here. The idea is to get the feeling of getting your hips in your swing.

  • I understand the idea, but it won't work.

Why? Because the neuromuscular patterns are different. Even if the intention that it will work is there, that doesn't mean it actually will

  • Yes it will...even though the neuromuscular patterns are different, you will eventually bridge the gap when you practice at a slower tempo and, once you have mastery there, speed up eventually to game speed. This is what high school, college and pro players have done for MANY years. If it wasn't successful they would've quit it long ago.

  • yes you know more about PLAYING BASEBALL then CAL RIPKEN JR. dumbass

  • If you're not going to do it in a game, why practice going slow? Doing it at less than game intensity speed won't transfer over, because the neuromuscular patterns are different (even if it looks the same, if it's done at less than game intensity, it won't transfer over)

So practice like you would in a game

  • The idea was to go slow at first to get the idea behind what he was doing. Then you would speed it up gradually untill it becomes part of your natural swing.

  • Yeah ok ill listen to you rather than Hall of Famer Cal Ripken hahahah what an idiot

  • So all the good guitarists that play good and fast just picked up a guitar one day and practiced going fast? no moron they started slow and as they got better they got faster. Learn the mechanics

  • That's fine for beginners, but there are better ways (such as backwards shaping) and awareness. Videotaping is key, proper feedback.

For non-beginners, it's not needed. I wouldn't tell someone on varsity to practice something they won't do in a game because of negative feedback, it could get incorporated in their normal swing and make them worse.

  • Drill work? Love it! Cal's still a stud.
