The fir st time I saw Bruce was at Liberty Hall on Chenevert in1974. A girl that I knew had a boy friend that qorked there and I saw all the shows. I went to see the Boss with no expectations. I was blown away. I knew the late music critic for the Houston Post (later the Chronicle) Bob Claypool, and spoke to him at the concert. He was blown away too. He was one of the first Springsteen proponents in the press. Bruce never forgot that.
A True Master. This is why they call Bruce "The Boss". I see that there are actually 4 dislikes of this video. All I can say about that is WOW. But that is negativity, and when you listen to a master songwriter / singer like Bruce, you just get lost in the moment of the song; such a positive and uplifting experience.
Driving home to the "Badlands" of New Jersey from Pittsburgh to see my Wife and Family, down I-76 on a fall day, listenin' to Bruce...doesn't get any better than this...
so amazing and multi talented. not easy tryin sing & play guitar let along play harmonica & guitar too. hands down amazing, a man for all seasons, his music lives on and on.
@CentraCross Um.. yes hes influenced Dylan.. Dylan can write some AMAZING songs one of the best ever.. but no one NO ONE compares to the BOSS. and Dylan def. lacks the passion Bruce does.
i love the last line 'meet me in the dream of this hardland' because in your dreams it sure as heck aint a hard land.....but just goin to work everyday: knowin youve done what you can as a man, is the only dream most guys are goin after.....the hard land is just a simple life...long live the boss!!
tuning is DOUBLE DROP D with capo at the third fret.Tune your low and high e string down one step and then play a D shape but let the 1st and 6th string ring open
I think that this is the best lyrics he ever wrote. One of the few songs that makes me cry sometimes, driving my truck to work at 4 a.m. A lot of us out there can really relate to this one...
If i were to be stranded on a deserted island and could only bring two things with me, it would be the Boss and his harmonica. Wouldn't have to think twice. :)
I love the mellow version of this without the "hard drive" and anthemic sound of the original. It's fitting that on spanish T.V. he does a version closer to Matomoros Bank or Across the Border. Let's hope we can all arrive at the dream!
I also love his accoustic versions... It's something about his lyrics that fits the accoustic expression.. I've loved his music since I was 14... now I'm 42... he has something with him... just the fantastic music that speaks for itself..he doesn't have to make any scandals for selling music... did you know that Norway has the biggest fan-base of this great musician... his latest album... Magic.... well 10% of the records sold world-wide was sold in Norway...
Never liked the way he does this acoustically - he takes the easy way out and sings low on the "Blown around" bit. The best part of the studio version is where he rips into that high note... I know he can't really reach it but it's good anyway.
52esquire! I also prefer the studio version :-). But I am sure, that Bruce can sing it in high note also on the concert, but mayby he decided to make a difference? He likes making suprises on his live performances.
should have chopped off the introduction.

This is the last track on "Bruce Springsteen greatest hits CD", and IMO, the CD version is much better than this.

can anyone tell me at all what key his harmonica is in,, and also those chords he uses in this version???? cant work this one out,, much appreciated.
stevewheels123 2 years ago
I can't tell you exactly what key, but I'm pretty sure it aint a G like he uses on the album version. dunno if it helps?
lenino 2 years ago
if the key is "c" which i think it is in than thats it....no such thing as a "g" key or harmonica last time i checked
onetimejustonce 2 years ago
I think it the bass E is dropped down to D with a capo third in F
ecb97tp 2 years ago
sounds and looks like DADGAD tuning and the key is definitely "F"
newfiefiddler 2 years ago
The key is "F"... he is using a DADGAD tuning on the guitar and capoing the 3rd fret
newfiefiddler 2 years ago
That's at least at Dylan's level I'd say...

@JGL71: I hear ya, Dylan is amazing, but damn this performance shows him without the magic of the E street band. And he's still great! Amazing

one of his best songs. probably wouldn't have fit on BITUSA, but i'm glad it got on greatest hits. BITUSA version was a better arrangement though.

It takes such a long time to say "1975" in Spanish...
Drumshanbohustle 4 years ago
Well, because you shorten it by saying 19 and 75 instead of 1975 (one thousand, nine hundred and seventy five) you see, it's long in english too.

brd0 4 years ago 2
The illusion is that 'we' talk about his voice, his acoustic vs electric debate.
This for me is a great song, as great as some of Bob D's songs, a song that protest's and has melody, has a story and has passion.
What ever you make of this, it is a story of 'lost treasure' and love within a family, and in the end the message is one of hope.
