You dont know what you are talking about. The French Foreign Legion IS NOT FRENCH. They fight under the French Flag , but they a National Mercenary Group. IF you are in the French Foreign Legion YOU WILL see combat , you will porbably die. Your will serve 5 years , and at least 3-4 years of it , is going to be on deployment.

Djibouti is a place for longer-termed comission legionnaires. Kind of like a reward if i may say. Mostly because far better salories than Corsica or Aubagne...

Kourou is the real sweetheart for the moneybusiness ;). But ,none of the legion forts are layback places, it takes a lot of sweat exchange to your "Lorne -Greene".

I would go there only cause of the Nationality-status
