It's a shame he's stuck on a quiz show.. But no doubt if he had a free reign on a sketch comedy show he'll be taken off air within a week. Fuck free-to-air networks. Cunts.
So glad he has the hit show my generation, has been so under rated for so long in comparison by other pallid, annoying so called hacks we had to painfully put up with like rove...
Shaun Micallef is hands down the smartest & cleverest comedian in Australia. Bit of a coincidence.... I was also born to a Maltese father & Australian mother. Me & Shaun are like THAT (doing "fingers crossed" thing)
@dimech1000 I laughed myself stupid at this sketch. BTW my Mother is Maltese and my father is English. I've come across twits like these in England in my time.
Wog is definitely more common now though - most so-called Wogs (myself Maltese-self included) consider the phrase a term of endearment in modern Australian English. Not just Italians however - any Southern European country of descent - Italy, Malta, Greece and Croatians traditionally however the term is now commonly applied to Macedonians, Serbians, Turks and Lebanese amoung others.
lol. I also want to let other commenters know that the episodes are still going strong, and doesn't look like Newstopia's going for an axe any time soon! Good on ya Shaun!
Even better, the entire episode is available via live streaming on the SBS web site for a week after it's broadcast. (wonder whether Shaun reads this?)
Freak me sideways! Great sketch. And to belatedly reply to dsriggs and Turanga, it can be found on The Micallef P(r)ogram(me): Series Deux DVD. Highly recommended.
I don't think he really fit in on channel nine. I think they thought he'd be sort of like Australia's answer to Letterman. And fuck knows why Merrick and Rosso took his place because they don't really belong there either. Nine are much too straight for this sort of thing, though at the very least I must credit them for having the foresight to see that he needed his own show in the first place. Micallef belongs on ABC or SBS where he is now though.
Oh my GOD!!! Watch the bit where she says, "I have baked a cake. It is chocolate." Shauns face is absolutely classic; he's obviously laughed at a bit in the skit and tried to cover it up...it's hilarious! I love Shaun!
Briliant for posting this. It's also my absolut fav sketch. I have the first and third season on DVD, the second on video, but I cannot find that sketch. Where is it?
