94 dislikes for people that chew rubber bands since the last longer.. Scratch built works for me, if you wanted to play be the clock,,,,solid boosters would be better, except you couldn't fit your balls in the seat!
Great video and build! I'm making a very similar engine (see my channel)! My question to you is, where did you manage to get that JFS-100 power turbine section?
I'm on a budget, and most say they'd sell for $2,500 (like avon aero, etc).
Don't know whether to call you an engineer or a mad scientist my friend, but you built something that even James Bond would be proud of. All it needs now is an ejector seat.
How did you do the shaft drive, did you custom fabricate everything or did you use a turbocharger, I know you have made the big point that this isn't commercial I just am not sure.
I always like to see people tinkering with engines etc, one day you'll build something that blows people away and you can look back at this vid and say "this is where it all started" good stuff.
get a roll cage on that before you roll it and kill your self, be safe frist then speed, you mite want to remove the spring and shocks too to prevent a roll over and lower it, and dont use knobbie tireds thay tend to bite more and more the more it slides use smooth tires,
oh my god, the space shuttle only goes 23,000 miles per hour?
call of duty 12 lets me shoot 2 flamethrowers at the same time while i'm rappelling out of my f16 into the chuck norris infested swamps of south east asia!!!
this is real jet turbine tech.
it aint an engine off a stealth fighter, there is no government weapons sponsorhip money here.
throttle lag. turbines dont start producing serious power until about 75% power. lag time is about 7 seconds with that engine. so if you could cut the lag about three seconds you would see a differant animal..very neat. i love turbine engines
No sir a turbine moving fluid in grate volume,at hi speed restricted and ported as high preshure
to a drive unit on the axle will be like a torque converter alowing the turbine to be at full or max, R.P.M. before the power is ever directed to the tires And hydolic fluid is static "it can not be compressed" so it will be one to one on the rear drive by the ratio of the venturie that you port the fluid to,
You got the right idea, but the wrong way of useing all that power, You need to spin a hyrolic pump like a tesla turbine off the main shalft turn your axle off a hydrolic motor, and have the"clutch" be a bypass valve, vrom hydolic turbine to main hydrolic fuid tank, when you reales,or close the valve,it can now only return to resevor by spinning the wheel's thue the hydrolic motor, this allows more Rpm ,on the turbine, befor power transffer ocurs!
Come on people give the man some credit ... He researched , he built , he developed ! Now let him research a little more ... i bet he can smoke your rice burner hondas next build !
maybe I should clear some things up since some people can't read. This kart was built as a hobby project. I built the twinshaft turbine from scraps, it is not a commercial turbine - therefor is not going to give you commercial results. Had it been a thrust engine, it would have been around 150lbs of thrust. Extracting power from the exhaust to turbine energy is much more efficient. I wasn't going for any speed records, just a safe place to run this home built contraption.
maybe I should clarify something for the ignorant. This was a complete HOMEBUILT turbo shaft engine. Nothing commercial about it. It wasn't supposed to run 3 seconds at the strip, I was just there to test it out. Second, its not thrust powered, the turbojet exhaust is converted to shaft power via a power turbine, which drives the wheels. Its low RPM, high torque.
@turbinebuilder: Was it intentionally a high-torque engine or is it just the nature of the gas turbines? Could you share some fuel consumption and performance info please? Thanks in advance!

this is the problem with turbine engines, the starting is really slow, but when they take some acceleration, they can reach incredible speed
