Guilt is a Christian invention, which sounds weird, but true. So worrying about guilt and sin and redemption, and apologizing is not what the rest of the world want. The wretched of the Earth want clean running water and the minimum wage. So our being all guilty is an act of hubris. It’s like we have some sort of god-complex when the truth is that China and India are the new big players. So the West's slow retreating roar, up its own cowardly backside, is not such a good idea.

I have often wondered about the "new age" philosophy that behaves as though the collective consciousness on planet earth is all positive energy and higher vibrational thought. It is a good way to delude ourselves. Bruckner's latest is about happiness; most who think themselves enlightened might be surprised to find out that they are just selfish.
