That's bad, i have been suffering 5-7s worth of bleeping throughout the hf spectrum over the past 12 months, reported it twice, intermediate ticket holder and cb:) user but have closed down and removed all hf gear because it's to much of a headache.
Now moving on to uhf where there is no skip, no noise and less interesting people, but hey sometimes you got to give up the fight.
I did try and even used a microwave to jam the signal and force offcoms hand to investigate:) but was a futile exercise
Copyright issues notwithstanding, if I recorded the soundtrack of this video and loaded it into a Speccy or Commodore 64, would I get Space Invaders or Galaxians?
Sounds like what you get on a Speccy when you play a data tape in a normal tape recorder instead of a music tape or audiobook!
Having first hand experience of the effect of these devices on Short Wave, AirBand & Broadband use.
I can say they do block out Shortwave radio Broadcast or Ham Radio, they also make weak Am Airband radio hard to hear & slow down the broadband internet. Having had OFCOM Govement body remove one local to me & seeing the change, I wonder why there not already banned & wonder will it take a Air to Air crash because a pilot or control not hearing traffic.
you know maybe if they where not transmitting internet on the air it "might" work like i said might they should try sending it on the lines in not transmitter on the air do like what cable does this could be good for like farm house way out thier in only if the person wents it in thiers no hams around it
Just have to deal with the proliferation of Plasma TVs and BPL enabled entertainment systems! Fortunately these are localised and can be address on a case by case basis.
That's exactly what the regulators here are doing with those damn 'power line adapters, or PLTs used by BT for BTVision, and sold over the counter in PC stores. Instead of banning them outright, which is what should be happening by law since they don't and can't comply with EMC laws, they deal with complaints on a 'case by case' basis, thereby creating a perpetual loop of complaint/eventual removal/back to start when new one arrives. Bloody ridiculous, and no help to people unaware of the source
Nice radio, could you use software to read the packets and tap in that broadband... I think it's possible with some type of conversion board plugged via the mic input or some other similar mod maybe...
This is certainly a concern that was expressed early in the BPL trial which I understand has bee addressed by encrypting the data that travels over the powerline.
Can you not have some fun with it run a script and unlock the encryption.. Steal it maybe.. Surely you can reverse engineer it as you have the signal.. I'd like to know more about it..
Isn't it ILLEGAL for the manufacturer to produce a device that causes undue interference to other spectrum users? How in the world did they get that device passed, and what standards agency verified it? Or do they get around it by saying that the interference is caused by the situation of power lines, not the device itself?
I'm saddened to know an amateur's station has been effectively shut down because of this. Only time will tell if it will eventually happen to all of us.
Yes it is, It has to compley with part 15 of the FCC rules. But it also says that the device has to accept interference ueven if it causes undesirable operation.
Hi this is Mike from UKQRM we have a slightly different problem over here in the UK with home plug devices! UKQRM is fighting back and you can find details in my video replies here! good work VK7TW everyone who values radio must make a stand now or lose it to the BPL/PLT for all time!
dang that BPL sounds awful I hope we never get it here. And just think there is much better technologies out there than BPL Fiber Optics is the way to go
i can actually pick this up by connecting a crystal earphone between a copper grounding rod stuck into the ground and then holding the earphone in the air.
i would try it on shortwave but my radio hasn't worked in about fifty years!
TO perfectron: Outside of disasters, Amateur Radio is useful in many ways; many of which you mention in your comment. Regarding a disaster: Whether it be natural or otherwise, widespread or localized, I would hate to think that an individual's life or the safety and well being of the community was dependent on the communication ability of an Amateur Radio Operator, but that communication ability was impossible due to BPL interference. Sad indeed, especially if human life was lost.....

BPL is the evolution. Dear radioamateurs, evolution! Think about the benefits of this technology, including social integration, more education, information and culture being delivery to poor citizens, where DSL/ISDN are not present. Tell me, what the benefits of radioamateurs services to general people? Just in disasters? So, think about the great benefits of internet, building knowledge where in other ways its couldn't be possible.
not only is amateur radio use these type of frequencies but, also ships, FAXES stations for weather,Miltary, Coast guard, Airplanes, and Broadcast Stations and so on.
Sign any petition you can find and write to the authorities!!! DO IT..
This WILL and IS destroying all HF... Thats CB radio, Ham Radio and much much more besides. Its just plain wrong, how the hell do THEY get away with it.. Might as well throw your Tickets away :(
If a radio operator was causing just a fraction of this interference, he'd be prosecuted and his station would be closed down. This technology should be outlawed now!
Ultimitly, I dont think coorporations will get away with BPL. My reasoning is every agency government (military), us, and several others use these bands for many purposes, even NASA. It would be stupid to give up trillions of frequencies or all these bands for BPL. Im not against BPL, they just need to find a RFI Free one, or segmeant it to a certain band. I am against as long as it cause these issues, ie, RFI. Also ham radio is moder and a backup. They sould compensate filters for us.
Good point. But ham radio may seem old, but is very modern. Satellite communications, spac shuttle, band modern, voice, digital, emergency communications, community. When most people think of ham radio they tink of talking on a radio from the 60's. Ham radio has evolved and is very modern.
warrenproductions, people also need to know that all the fancy stuff they do with cell phones like text messaging and sending pictures was done with ham radio first
also CW has beat cell phone text messaging on the jay leno show
Your government doesn't want you to use radio communications because they don't have control over the data. Besides, its much harder to monitor your radio activity then say logging the websites you go to. Radio is a freedom!
Factually incorrect. All amateur radio freqencies are wide open, and able to be received by anybody with the equipment to do so. Including the government. There are rules that every operator and radio station must follow. The rules are federally mandated. To suggest they don't want anybody to use radio because they can't control it denies the fact that they control the rules upon which they are governed.
this is a catastropic noise on our short wave frequencies where it does not belong. The authorities strongly failed in a correct judgement on this subject, resulting in the interfereces being so strong that even the NATO data exchange channels are disturbed. Let us hope that the generals won't accept the qrm on their data lines and help to kill that unacceptable transmission of RF signals on unshielded, unmatches power lines.
to supergirl260: what is, when Your neighbour is listening to music so loud, that it is impossible for you to phone with your friends, and he tells you, that you should write emails instead - than the noise don't affect you?
considering demand for internet most ppl will live with no over the air fm/am radio stations
heck you can get most stations/communicate over the internet just as easily over the air
so for better or for worse i see no way to stop bpl your have better luck getting ppl to get red of there radio/tv and just use bpl for there information needs
Truly no way to operate on the ham bands properly. Hopefully BPL won't become accepted. Good to see such videos, maybe there will be a solution to it. BPL is a problem here in germany, too. Luckily i am not affected... not yet.

It is sad but necessary for the human race to advance.
