@jmkk93 i know a buddy that has one made in 1943 too. they are all mostly made in 1943. It's cause they made SO FREAKIN MANY during WWII. That is also another reason why they are super cheap
One question. Why do you shoot it like that? (Note: I am only like 25 seconds into the video, pardon me if you do change how you hold it) You only used one hand to fire and the other hand was near your chest. Answer please, and thank you.
@kakashiroz I have my left hand placed under the butt of the rifle to give it a stable firing position since the fore end is supported on a bench rest. It makes it easier to hold on a spot on the target.
Mosin-Nagant bolts can be operated pretty fast if you grasp the ball in the palm of your hand, alot of people try to do it with their fingers. Either way works, but palm is faster, if your going for accuracy then it doesn't matter really.
@119fatty I like the robust action of the Mosin-Nagant, but the Kar98k has one of the most simple and advanced actions. It's still an action found on a lot of hunting rifles today.
@119fatty Kar 98 has a better bolt, it is located directly above the trigger and it's bent, so you can work it without having to break aim. Mosin Nagant the bolt is forward of the trigger and it's straight, so as you see in this video he breaks aim to work it. Also the Kar 98 bolt allows for a faster ROF as a result. Lee einfield is the same as Kar 98 in terms of bolts.
@Unit987654321 The Lee-Enfield has a good action, but it's only similar in shape, not function. The Kar98k (and by extension the M1903) has a controlled feed system, it also has a much different extractor that runs the length of the bolt body where the Lee-Enfield's extractor is solely on the bolt head. Finally, the Lee-Enfield is a cock-on-close action whereas the Kar98k has the cock-on-open Mauser action. Similar in shape but entirely different in how it functions.
@MosinDragunov1891 They are all far easier to fire than Mosin Nagant in terms of rate of fire as a result of the position of their bolts and the shape of their bolts is what I meant. Accuracy wise they are all very similar.
Some ppl suck. (MrTheree) Hey, nice Ex dragoon you got there. Mine is an 1934 Izzy. Anyway, I usually find it that the Mosin Nagants, since they are 4 grooved barrel, and its about a 1-9th twist, they love 180+ grain bullets. I still shoot surplus a lot though. I can't get enough of that surplus.
@Marine052191 Actually, it's a regular 91/30 dated 1940. I love shooting surplus ammo through it since it's decently accurate, easy to find, and cheap. =)
I've recently found an old Russian 1898 made M1891 rifle, still really thinking about picking it up just to have it.
@lazarevic95 Depends. If you mount a scout scope (long ear relief) on it, then no because it replaces the rear sight leaf with the scope base and is well forward of the bolt. If you mount a traditional scope then yes, you will need to replace/alter the straight bolt with a bent bolt.
@lazarevic95 Neat trick, remove the upper barrel cover and the 2 pins holding the rear sight and slide it forward, there's a dovetail that holds the sight, and you can mount a long eye relief scope right on that.
@knowledge0010 Big 5 sporting goods usually has them,on sale they can be had for under $100,that's how I got mine, and it's a 1927 Tula hex reciever as well. It was the kit with bayonet and accessories, too.Good deal.
@shoes919 7.62x54r ammo is extremely cheap you can get one thousand rounds for about 250 dollars, the reason behind this is this round has been in continuous production for over one hundred years, so there is a ton of surplus, the Russian military still uses the 7.62x54r in their sniper rifles and some machine guns
@WilsonKeelOutdoors1 this is a very very accurate rifle, the kick isnt even bad unless u shoot about 100 rounds then your shoulder starts to get sore.
@juncho1977 Only a little. It takes some getting used to when you're familiar with bent bolt handles. However, having a straight bolt handle gives you more leverage when it gets stuck and you can really hit it hard.
@jess1541 The rifle is rested on a stand and my left hand is placed under the butt of the rifle, letting me steady and control the rifle more effectively.
@jess1541 He's actually practicing good shooting form. It's best to have a front rest and use your non-tigger hand as a rest or stabilizer on the buttstock.
@shaunpisk I have always been interested in the Mosin Nagants too. It's just that around here where I don't know anyone who could let me try one out. Not to mention they're kinda rare around here I'd say.
@jess1541 Oh there's a gun club around where you live that might let you try one out. On the thought of rarity, they are one of the LEAST rare guns in the world. Actually, I think the only other gun that has been produced more is the AK-47. You can easily find a Mosin Nagant at you local gun store. It is a fun gun to shoot. This the Mosin would be a good "first" collectable rifle. iraqveteran888 and hickok 45 have videos on what to look for in regards to quality.

@eagleboy5160 Ok, even if it was a joke toward Mosin Dragunov1891, it was a nasty racist joke. Typically that is how racist people spread their racism is through demeaning jokes.
@MosinDragunov1891 well i sed is said i never actually believed it..i just here it from a lot of people like people at gun shops near me and u kno that stuff lol
@MosinDragunov1891 and no not the caliber like power the action as in the bolt is made the best and is strongest like the bolt is tough and it is in my oppion and to a lot of other people
@guitarplayer1338 Still, the Arisaka has a stronger action than the Kar98k. Maybe not the last ditch rifles, but the pre, early, and mid war rifles were.
Does it actually hurt anything to kind of open the bolt quick and close it quick? I see in the video you do it slow and methodically, but I always like to pop it up, back, and slam it forward and back down (Perhaps more like a soldier would have in combat) - I didn't think it would hurt it being as tough as it is but I'm curious nonetheless. Mine is a '33 Hex Izhevsk.
@Shintsu2 If the extractors pretty stiff or if the receiver is a bit gunked sometimes a little rearward momentum helps. I do the same on my 91 Argentine, I think the worst thing it could damage is the bolt catch.
@Vihljamsson It's not so much that you need to get used to it, it's just that you need to understand that the rifle sometimes needs to be handled roughly. But I've cleaned the bolt and the area where the bolt locks into the receiver and it's actually quite a nice rifle now.
I also have a Izhevsk M91/30 Mosin. Mine was made in 1943. I'm impressed that for as old and cheap as it is, it is really accurate. It's definitely worth it having one in your gun collection.
I love the clicky action on this gun, I remember this rifle from enemy at the gate, I will prob get one after the K98 so I have to see what the latest prices are.
@arielnyc2005 this rifle is very easy to find, not to mention it sells very cheap; ranging from $60 to $120, depending on where you look. if you want the model from EATG, you're looking at around $500, give or take.
I own an M39, M28-30, an M59/30, and an M91/30 -- all Mosins....they have two stage pulls...like nearly every rifle produced in Europe during the century.
@87325 I just checked on my own M91/30 (made in Izhevsk in 1940) and it does not have a 2 stage trigger. None of the Mosins in the shops I've handled had them either. Not Chinese, not Russian, and not American. I've never handled a Finnish Mosin, but the Finnish Mosins are usually held to a higher standard for accuracy so it wouldn't surprise me if those made with 2 stage triggers. However, the other Mosins I've handled do NOT have 2 stage triggers.
@87325 A 2 stage triggers offers little to no resistance for a good portion of the trigger travel. Then it reaches a point where it stops moving and you need to apply more and more pressure until the sear releases the cocking knob and firing pin. Both of my Mosins just have immediate resistance and then a breaking point. If you wish to prove me wrong, do it. Watch the video of myself with the Mosin-Nagant in the cold and tell me it has a 2 stage trigger.
@TRSERased What makes you say I can't see the target? What honestly is going through your head? Obviously not much since you can't use any grammar in commenting. I wouldn't even consider this criticism since you're not offering any advice. You need to go back to playing your games and stop talking out of your rear like an internet tough guy.
@TRSERased I'd honestly like to see you do better. It does NOT have a 2 stage trigger as that would have required more machining and an extra unnecessary step in the production of the rifle. Yes, it would make it a more accurate trigger pull but ORIGINAL M91/30's do NOT have a 2 stage trigger. A 2 stage trigger offers no resistance in the initial take up but when you reach the second stage, it will resist and resist until the trigger breaks. BOTH of my Mosin-Nagants lack this.
I doubt you're shooting very accurately...it looks like you're completely ignoring the 2 stage trigger and just slapping your finger back till the rifle goes bang, and you have an obvious flinch.
@87325 Since when does an original Mosin-Nagant M91/30 have a 2 stage trigger? Both of my Mosin-Nagants just offer immediate resistance and then it breaks.
@Maschinepistol none of the bolt actions are going to be easy to reload with any fluidity at first, but once you get used to the action you will get very good at it.
@leonardosaraiva1 I don't have an M1 yet, but out of the other two, I'd say the Kar98k is a little more difficult to shoot. The sights on the M91/30 are more basic so anyone could aim and shoot the rifle. The Kar98k sights are slightly more difficult to use but only slightly. They're both pretty basic but I think the Kar98k would require just a little more training.
the 91/30's sights are primitive, cause I mean, only 20-25 years prior to its invention people were still using muskets
the K98s sights are probably the most sophisticated open v notch sights Ive seen. Offcourse peep sights are the most accurate but the K98's come very close.
@USMCM249gunner Actually, the original M1891 had very good sights for it's time considering it was adopted in 1891. For the time, it was a very good rifle but the ammunition was considered obsolete with the creation of the rimless cartidge. The M91/30 (adopted in 1930) was a cheaper version that could be quickly made with very little skilled labor. It's still a nice rifle despite being crude.
@USMCM249gunner The sights on the M1891 were of almost the same type as the Gew.98 rifle. A front blade and v-notch rear sight. However, the M1891 had a ladder type sight for long range shooting whereas the Gew.98 had the "rollercoaster" style rear sight adjustment. But yes, the Gew.98 was superior to the M1891. Just like today, firearm advancement comes in leaps and bounds and will quickly overshadow any firearm made before.
@USMCM249gunner But still, you can't be the M1891 or M91/30 for it's ability to take punishment and abuse. I still call it the AK-47 of the bolt actions.
@MosinDragunov1891 Nice, and wow, airsoft gear for a Garand?! Man, you got lucky on that one. It took me a while to get mine. But it was really worth it though, that gun is very special to me and has a lot centimental value, seeing as how my grandfather carried that rifle during WWII on the eastern front.
@MosinDragunov1891 Hey man, one more thing. The bolt on my M91/30 has turned a brownish color......maybe from surplus/corrosion causing ammo? It was probably from where I made the mistake of not cleaning it the first time I shot it. Any ideas of how I might be able to clean it up? By the way, you should REALLY consider getting a Garand, it's an amazing rifle. Thanks
@MrPatriot1911 I'd probably hit the bolt with a rust remover and get all the rust off outside and inside the bolt. It's going to be a lot of work especially since you're going to want to really scrub the barrel and chamber of the rifle. Use the same rust remover on a copper .30 cal cleaning brush and really work on the barrel. Use a 20 gauge brush on the chamber as well.
@MrPatriot1911 I use Casey's Rust and Blue Remover for rust removal on my guns, you might want to get a cold bluing agent as well, just in case you accidentally remove the original bluing. Just be very careful next time you go shooting with it.
I'm going to be getting a Garand soon. One of my friends had gotten tired of his and is looking for newer rifles and airsoft guns. So I traded my airsoft gear for it. =)
I actually am thinking about buying a Mosin-Nagant M91/30, as it would be cool to own a piece of World War II history and actually be able to shoot it. But I'm not sure if you need to have a C&R license if you are going to buy a gun like that if all you are going to do with it is take it to the gun range and shoot it? I would like to know, because I'm not sure if you need one or not in order to buy a Mosin-Nagant if you are just going to shoot it.
@Robert9640 You don't need a C&R license to purchase any rifle. Depending on where you live, it may be as simple as walking into the shop and buying it. In Connecticut, the only requirements for buying any long arm is that you are 18 years of age with a clean police record. My advice is to look at your local gun laws, a quick Google search ought to provide the information.
@MosinDragunov1891 Ok, thank you for your help, and by the way, this is a good video of you shooting the M91/30, hopefully we may be able to see more videos like this in the future.
@sammylectric It's actually pretty mild. I would recommend getting one anyways. You'll have a ton of fun shooting it and Mosin-Nagants are like potato chips; you can't have just one!
Go china lol XD

I see in the video you do it slow and methodically, but I always like to pop it up, back, and slam it forward and back down (Perhaps more like a soldier would have in combat) - I didn't think it would hurt it being as tough as it is but I'm curious nonetheless. Mine is a '33 Hex Izhevsk.
Shintsu2 1 year ago
@Shintsu2 Nah. With the Mosin-Nagant rifles, you'd be more likely to hurt yourself. The rifles were built tough and can handle a lot of abuse.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@Shintsu2 If the extractors pretty stiff or if the receiver is a bit gunked sometimes a little rearward momentum helps. I do the same on my 91 Argentine, I think the worst thing it could damage is the bolt catch.

How's the bolting action on your Mosin mate? Many people told that you need time to get used to it.
Vihljamsson 1 year ago
@Vihljamsson It's not so much that you need to get used to it, it's just that you need to understand that the rifle sometimes needs to be handled roughly. But I've cleaned the bolt and the area where the bolt locks into the receiver and it's actually quite a nice rifle now.

I'm a huge fan of Bolt Action Guns but I have to say, that bolt looks like it's very difficult to cock.

Is that kind of recoil normal? It looks pretty scary ...
320k 1 year ago
@320k Yeah, the recoil does look scary but it isn't bad. It feels more like a firm push more than anything.

I also have a Izhevsk M91/30 Mosin. Mine was made in 1943. I'm impressed that for as old and cheap as it is, it is really accurate. It's definitely worth it having one in your gun collection.

I love the clicky action on this gun, I remember this rifle from enemy at the gate, I will prob get one after the K98 so I have to see what the latest prices are.
arielnyc2005 1 year ago
@arielnyc2005 this rifle is very easy to find, not to mention it sells very cheap; ranging from $60 to $120, depending on where you look. if you want the model from EATG, you're looking at around $500, give or take.

I own an M39, M28-30, an M59/30, and an M91/30 -- all Mosins....they have two stage pulls...like nearly every rifle produced in Europe during the century.
87325 1 year ago
@87325 I just checked on my own M91/30 (made in Izhevsk in 1940) and it does not have a 2 stage trigger. None of the Mosins in the shops I've handled had them either. Not Chinese, not Russian, and not American. I've never handled a Finnish Mosin, but the Finnish Mosins are usually held to a higher standard for accuracy so it wouldn't surprise me if those made with 2 stage triggers. However, the other Mosins I've handled do NOT have 2 stage triggers.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@87325 A 2 stage triggers offers little to no resistance for a good portion of the trigger travel. Then it reaches a point where it stops moving and you need to apply more and more pressure until the sear releases the cocking knob and firing pin. Both of my Mosins just have immediate resistance and then a breaking point. If you wish to prove me wrong, do it. Watch the video of myself with the Mosin-Nagant in the cold and tell me it has a 2 stage trigger.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@TRSERased What makes you say I can't see the target? What honestly is going through your head? Obviously not much since you can't use any grammar in commenting. I wouldn't even consider this criticism since you're not offering any advice. You need to go back to playing your games and stop talking out of your rear like an internet tough guy.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@TRSERased I'd honestly like to see you do better. It does NOT have a 2 stage trigger as that would have required more machining and an extra unnecessary step in the production of the rifle. Yes, it would make it a more accurate trigger pull but ORIGINAL M91/30's do NOT have a 2 stage trigger. A 2 stage trigger offers no resistance in the initial take up but when you reach the second stage, it will resist and resist until the trigger breaks. BOTH of my Mosin-Nagants lack this.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
I doubt you're shooting very accurately...it looks like you're completely ignoring the 2 stage trigger and just slapping your finger back till the rifle goes bang, and you have an obvious flinch.
87325 1 year ago
@87325 Since when does an original Mosin-Nagant M91/30 have a 2 stage trigger? Both of my Mosin-Nagants just offer immediate resistance and then it breaks.

Can you load the bullets into the magazine without stripper clips or would that be unwise?
bigdada5o1 1 year ago
@bigdada5o1 Of course you can load the magazine without a stripper clip. It's just faster and easier than loading individual rounds.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
How is the recoil of the Mosin Nagant? Because I thought of getting this rifle to fire at the range.
iChr1SP 1 year ago
@iChr1SP It's not bad. Just like a firm push as long as you keep it nice and tight to your shoulder.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
Is the Mosin Nagant easy to cock like in the game Call Of Duty? Like the smooth fluid movement type of thing?
Maschinepistol 1 year ago
@Maschinepistol
its not a single motion like with the K98,
the 91/30s bolt is kinda square-ish, cycling it is almost a 2 part business.
so its more tedious and a bit slower than with round bolts with bent handles.
USMCM249gunner 1 year ago
@Maschinepistol none of the bolt actions are going to be easy to reload with any fluidity at first, but once you get used to the action you will get very good at it.
bigdada5o1 1 year ago
the Mosin-nagant. K98 or the M1 garand is harder to shoot?
leonardosaraiva1 1 year ago
@leonardosaraiva1 I don't have an M1 yet, but out of the other two, I'd say the Kar98k is a little more difficult to shoot. The sights on the M91/30 are more basic so anyone could aim and shoot the rifle. The Kar98k sights are slightly more difficult to use but only slightly. They're both pretty basic but I think the Kar98k would require just a little more training.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@MosinDragunov1891
the 91/30's sights are primitive, cause I mean, only 20-25 years prior to its invention people were still using muskets
the K98s sights are probably the most sophisticated open v notch sights Ive seen. Offcourse peep sights are the most accurate but the K98's come very close.
USMCM249gunner 1 year ago
@USMCM249gunner Actually, the original M1891 had very good sights for it's time considering it was adopted in 1891. For the time, it was a very good rifle but the ammunition was considered obsolete with the creation of the rimless cartidge. The M91/30 (adopted in 1930) was a cheaper version that could be quickly made with very little skilled labor. It's still a nice rifle despite being crude.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@MosinDragunov1891
maybe in 1891
Gewehr 1898 had it beat in almost every aspect.
USMCM249gunner 1 year ago
@USMCM249gunner The sights on the M1891 were of almost the same type as the Gew.98 rifle. A front blade and v-notch rear sight. However, the M1891 had a ladder type sight for long range shooting whereas the Gew.98 had the "rollercoaster" style rear sight adjustment. But yes, the Gew.98 was superior to the M1891. Just like today, firearm advancement comes in leaps and bounds and will quickly overshadow any firearm made before.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@USMCM249gunner But still, you can't be the M1891 or M91/30 for it's ability to take punishment and abuse. I still call it the AK-47 of the bolt actions.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@MosinDragunov1891 Nice, and wow, airsoft gear for a Garand?! Man, you got lucky on that one. It took me a while to get mine. But it was really worth it though, that gun is very special to me and has a lot centimental value, seeing as how my grandfather carried that rifle during WWII on the eastern front.
MrPatriot1911 1 year ago
@MosinDragunov1891 Hey man, one more thing. The bolt on my M91/30 has turned a brownish color......maybe from surplus/corrosion causing ammo? It was probably from where I made the mistake of not cleaning it the first time I shot it. Any ideas of how I might be able to clean it up? By the way, you should REALLY consider getting a Garand, it's an amazing rifle. Thanks
MrPatriot1911 1 year ago
@MrPatriot1911 I'd probably hit the bolt with a rust remover and get all the rust off outside and inside the bolt. It's going to be a lot of work especially since you're going to want to really scrub the barrel and chamber of the rifle. Use the same rust remover on a copper .30 cal cleaning brush and really work on the barrel. Use a 20 gauge brush on the chamber as well.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@MrPatriot1911 I use Casey's Rust and Blue Remover for rust removal on my guns, you might want to get a cold bluing agent as well, just in case you accidentally remove the original bluing. Just be very careful next time you go shooting with it.
I'm going to be getting a Garand soon. One of my friends had gotten tired of his and is looking for newer rifles and airsoft guns. So I traded my airsoft gear for it. =)
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
I actually am thinking about buying a Mosin-Nagant M91/30, as it would be cool to own a piece of World War II history and actually be able to shoot it. But I'm not sure if you need to have a C&R license if you are going to buy a gun like that if all you are going to do with it is take it to the gun range and shoot it? I would like to know, because I'm not sure if you need one or not in order to buy a Mosin-Nagant if you are just going to shoot it.
Robert9640 1 year ago
@Robert9640 You don't need a C&R license to purchase any rifle. Depending on where you live, it may be as simple as walking into the shop and buying it. In Connecticut, the only requirements for buying any long arm is that you are 18 years of age with a clean police record. My advice is to look at your local gun laws, a quick Google search ought to provide the information.
MosinDragunov1891 1 year ago
@MosinDragunov1891 Ok, thank you for your help, and by the way, this is a good video of you shooting the M91/30, hopefully we may be able to see more videos like this in the future.
