i'm sure everyone sung this song exactly how it was suppose to be written in the 1500's..... NOT!!!!!! everyone needs to shut their critical faces and enjoy the music for what it is. jesus christ.
Beautiful singing, terrific balance and intonation. However, I don't hear the crude and humorous text reflected in such a super-lyrical interpretation.
A beautifully recorded piece but certainly the wrong style for this song. One needs to see a proper translation(not the standard one that comes with the sheet music--it's highly sanitised) to understand. One really needs to really let go with this piece and have some fun. I sang with a Renaissance group years ago and although our focus was on more sacred music we became better known for our recordings of this and I Spy Celia.
An absolutely beautiful sound, BUT, this song does not call for a beautiful slow lyrical style of singing. It's a harsh, humorous Italian madrigal. I like to hear it a little bit 'harsher'. The beauty of this doesn't fit with the lyrics of the madrigal at all.
The most beautiful sound is created here - it's magnificent and exceptionally musical. Intelligent thought and care has gone - not only into the formation of every phrase - but into the tone and timbre of every note. I love it ! However, it has its faults - stylistically this is incorrect. It's too perfect and does not capture the 'joke' in the piece. This is a foreigh mercinary singing to an Italian lady, his Italian is poor and he mispronounces the words . Still love it though.
Beautiful sound, but not quite stylistically correct for a madrigal - needs to be more spritely and playful...it's about sex! Their phrasing on this is much better for a Renaissance motet.
The singing is beautiful, indeed, and the rendering of the song in general, but I don't really see how it follows the actual meaning of the lyrics. For those uninitiated, it's about a horny German soldier who sings to his beloved lady in a funny Italian accent. Unfortunately, many mistake it for some sort of a spiritual song. Which is not to say that eros and love have nothing to do with the spiritual, but here it's rather music that seduces us into thinking that way.
Absolutely gorgeous. 5 stars. This is the best version I have heard since the Obernkirchen Childrens Choir version from the late 1950s (Angel Records 64008). Of course, since children were singing it, the lyrics had to be changed.
Can you tell me something more about this madrigal?

Sounds more like a religious motet.

Wonderful, but the timing is horrible, too much space between verses.

@memelvin1 do you even have any experience in classical music? How can you say "timing is horrible"?? listen to the entire song how is constructed.
