I think I'll get one of these to match my Les Paul. I'm running a Fender Frontman 212R at the moment and am currently paying off a thinline tele to run through that. But the Les Paul through it just doesn't sound right
That Guy's gotta have tough ears to stand in front of that 100 watt on 9-10 volume on the clean channel!. Made in Vietnam, and really fizzy sounding when under 5-6 on the OD channel volume (least on the one I have). In other words, needs mods to get good sounds at moderate volumes, IMO.
@youknowitsBrad not every country in the world can speak your language why cant you americans understand that you guys act like he's in the wrong for speaking dutch or whatever
no only the tube that you wrecked but to still have the same sound in your amp make sure you replace the broken tube with the exact same tube ( same brand and size etc.) so u won't get a different sound and might be dissatisfied
lol does any1 feel the same thing as me ? as in, when hes speakin german i dont understand shit xD but when he plays guitar its like hes speakin a language im fluent at? music surprises me everyday :P
One Question: This guy put up the amp very loudly. That must be too loud!?! I want to buy the one with 50 watts for the practise room (our drummer plays very loud). Is it loud enough?
The more of these off-shore amps Marshall puts on the market just increases demand and price for the real ones! JCM, JMP etc. I've tried them all and would much prefere a new Blackstar over any of the newer non English made circuits. My favorite amp by far is an all hand wired Phaez "Chopper". They seem to have things figured out at Phaez Amplifiers.
I dont know why people say not good for Metal... First off EVERY PRO GUITARIST doesnt use just an amp and Cab.. They ALL use some sort of effects or Pre-Amp with their rigs. Most are RAck Mounted with all sorts of gear in them. I own this AMp and even IF I had more money,(and I did at the time I purchased this), I would still buy this amp. I use a POD HD thru the loop and 2 Marshall cabs and it sounds GREAT. I bet If you put a JCM and your effects and done the same with this amp, U wouldnt tell
Soooo NOT true... I own this amp, and first off, Its built like a TANK, very heavy and well built. The clean channel is clean as any amp Ive owned in the past, and Ive owned alot. The crunch and boost channels are very good as well, giving nice clean hi's and nice warm sound. And YES your right, it is a lower priced amp, but It sounds better than amps more its price. Price isnt everything, SOUND QUALITY is.And this IS a QUALITY AMP. Just my opinion.
this guy knows how to do a review, he actually plays a wide range of stuff, but i dont understand a single word he said throughout the whole video, i want this amp
The thing I like about Marshall tube amps is that the Marshall amp is able to deliver a BIG chunky tone. People think it's all about distortion...A Marshall with the gain pulled back is far more huge sounding than one of your boutique, hi-gain stacks with the fuzz all maxed out. Grow up. Turn your fuzz down a mite, and learn how to play. The mood of the music is in your heart and your fingers. If you write music that is truly angry, nothing will amplify that emotion like a Marshall.
This thing doesnt sound like a marshall. Its basically their solid state MG line with tubes in it. I have an '83 JCM800 and it has true marshall tone. This thing is good for the money I guess If you want something that just says "Marshall" on it
This amp has great clean channel. It's bright enough. Overdrive channel fits perfectly for rock/hardrock. You get really nice sound out of it, but for metal I would recommend something to boost it. But still, better try it out on Yourself ;) Im satisfied.

@evildude25 Ok i stand corrected. In fact I would have bought that one if it had 2 proper channels and a footswitch. As it is, all it does is rip peoples faces off....which is good obviously.
ive played one at guitar center,it doesnt have the gain thats displayed towards the end of this video, would not recommend this for modern metal, and maybe not even old school metal. i'd save for a jvm. thats just my 2 cents.
@livingdeadbeat187 perhaps it would have a bit better gain if you changed out the tubes? like evh's 5150III has amazing gain, so much that is nearly plays itself. Maybe if you replaces the el34's or whatever marshall uses with 12ax7's it would sound better. I'm just guessing and hoping, because I don't have 200 for a damn evh.
I have a serious dilemma, I want to either get a Marshall mg100df for $399, a mg102dfx for $550 or the ma100c for $900 which one of these would be good for me and worth the money, I'm also into classic rock hair metal and van halen style
Eure videos sind sehr sehr geil. alles super reviews. macht spaß euch zuzuhören und zuzusehen.
Eine Bitte hätte ich aber. Könntet ihr mal das 'Hughes&Kettner Statesman Dual EL34 Topteil' testen. Würde mich riesig freuen, weil es im internet kaum Videos darüber gibt. Nur über die Combos. (;
@rockfreak611 i agree man, marshall's were manly used for rock music (THE GOOD ROCK MUSIC) they think they have balls just because they listen to heavy speed death metal, and to me it sounds all the same, the only thrash metal band that sounded good was metallica, and their newest stuff really sucks
You know what I hate, seeing the comment question on every amplifier review on youtube that says, "Is this amp good for metal?" Why don't you just use common sense and speculate the brands you are looking at, and just go to a guitar store and try it for yourself instead of bothering the youtube population.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
People who say that Ozzy, Black Sabath, and Metallica are metal need to shut the fuck up...thats classic rock. Metal is August Burns Red, As Blood Runs Black, Texas in July, Lamb of God, Attila, As I Lay Dying...and the list goes on...that stuff was the foundation for metal but it is now considered classic rock.
@guitarbitch09 No you need to shut the fuck up. How old are you? 12? Come back when you know what you're talking about. The bands you stated as being metal are metal but Ozzy, Sabbath and Metallica are metal and always will be Metal. Stop making a fool of yourself and do some research. I expect to be replyed with a "Fuck you, you piece of shit" or something along the lines of that so if you are going to do that don't bother I really don't give a shit what you think.
@guitarbitch09 metallica is thrash metal, and black sabbath fuckin invented metal! its different types of metal you know, not all as extreme as those bands you mentioned -.-
@guitarbitch09 Dude, how old are you? I could bet you 100 bucks right now that all those bands you listed as metal probably note Sabbath, Metallica, and Ozzy as metal influences, and as metal bands. Where the fuck do you think metal started? Abba?
@guitarbitch09 Are you fucking high you emo fuck? Listen to metallica's kill em all', and ride the lightning albums and tell me thats fucking classic rock, if you think that your a dumb fuck my friend. Those bands could only dream of accomplishing even half of what those bands have done for music. Now go cut yourself "cause nobody understands you".
I don't want to be a prick but this guy's reviews annoys me because of his lips or swallowing sounds he makes. It sounds like he is about to drown in his own drool. Sorry but it really is annoying to me.
@doogdoogdoog You made your point. I have an MG100DFX. On the volume 6, it starts to rumble on the floor. So, I don't know, maybe he is deaf or something, hahaha. This kind of videos usually have very compressed sound, so that's probably why we don't hear it having a loud tone (which is different from loudness itself). But why isn't he bleeding out, I don't know.
@Gabriopunk77 Maybe, but in that case, there should be a lot of ambience to the sound also!
But, at any rate, I still think these things look seriously underpowered, maybe it's a bias thing. I'll give one a try in the near future and see what happens!
I bought this amp yesterday. I play metal. And I gotta say, If you play rock this is the perfect begginers tube amp, but for metalheads, your better off getting something else. The gain on this amp is rather weak (in my opinion) but overall everything else is cherry.
I test drove one of these a while back...it was better than a stock Peavey Valveking or the equivalents, but I don't think I'd bother unless I found one under $400 and gave it a tube change. For the same price you can get a Ceriatone kit that'll sound ten times better.
Though I'm jealous of beginning guitarists these days...they have all these affordable tube amps to choose from. We didn't really have such a thing in the mid '90s, not any that sounded decent at least.
@Gabriopunk77 Sorry you missed the point, someone had a problem that he was only play blues riffs and not enough metal, I was merely pointing out that he does play some metal style riffs. Which includes drop D tuning and higher gain. I wasn't referring to the sound of the amp.
here in holland we have to learn a foreign language which is german or french so im glad i've choosen german :)

You know what I hate, seeing the comment question on every amplifier review on youtube that says, "Is this amp good for metal?" Why don't you just use common sense and speculate the brands you are looking at, and just go to a guitar store and try it for yourself instead of bothering the youtube population.

Sounds thin. Or is that because of the Music Man?
jb1563700 1 year ago
@jb1563700 the guitar...single coils sound much "thinner" than humbuckers. humbuckers add a lot of balls and chunk to your sound

@aR3tardedtiger
I know, but still. The difference can't be that big

This comment has received too many negative votes show
People who say that Ozzy, Black Sabath, and Metallica are metal need to shut the fuck up...thats classic rock. Metal is August Burns Red, As Blood Runs Black, Texas in July, Lamb of God, Attila, As I Lay Dying...and the list goes on...that stuff was the foundation for metal but it is now considered classic rock.
guitarbitch09 1 year ago
@guitarbitch09 No you need to shut the fuck up. How old are you? 12? Come back when you know what you're talking about. The bands you stated as being metal are metal but Ozzy, Sabbath and Metallica are metal and always will be Metal. Stop making a fool of yourself and do some research. I expect to be replyed with a "Fuck you, you piece of shit" or something along the lines of that so if you are going to do that don't bother I really don't give a shit what you think.
NegativeCreep1456 1 year ago
@guitarbitch09 metallica is thrash metal, and black sabbath fuckin invented metal! its different types of metal you know, not all as extreme as those bands you mentioned -.-
mogoya 1 year ago
@guitarbitch09 Dude, how old are you? I could bet you 100 bucks right now that all those bands you listed as metal probably note Sabbath, Metallica, and Ozzy as metal influences, and as metal bands. Where the fuck do you think metal started? Abba?
Blackoutwalkin 1 year ago
@guitarbitch09 Are you fucking high you emo fuck? Listen to metallica's kill em all', and ride the lightning albums and tell me thats fucking classic rock, if you think that your a dumb fuck my friend. Those bands could only dream of accomplishing even half of what those bands have done for music. Now go cut yourself "cause nobody understands you".

I don't want to be a prick but this guy's reviews annoys me because of his lips or swallowing sounds he makes. It sounds like he is about to drown in his own drool. Sorry but it really is annoying to me.
ickefes 1 year ago
How is it that he's running a 100w valve amp at 7 on the volume dial whilst standing that close.. without his nose bleeding?
These things look seriously wimpy considering the power ratings.
doogdoogdoog 1 year ago
@doogdoogdoog Because it's a MA, not a JCM.
Gabriopunk77 1 year ago
@Gabriopunk77 True, but even the lowliest 100w solidstate combo would be making an unholy racket at those kinda settings.
doogdoogdoog 1 year ago
@doogdoogdoog You made your point. I have an MG100DFX. On the volume 6, it starts to rumble on the floor. So, I don't know, maybe he is deaf or something, hahaha. This kind of videos usually have very compressed sound, so that's probably why we don't hear it having a loud tone (which is different from loudness itself). But why isn't he bleeding out, I don't know.
Gabriopunk77 1 year ago
@Gabriopunk77 Maybe, but in that case, there should be a lot of ambience to the sound also!
But, at any rate, I still think these things look seriously underpowered, maybe it's a bias thing. I'll give one a try in the near future and see what happens!
doogdoogdoog 1 year ago
@doogdoogdoog Ok, tell me what you thought! I've never heard one of those live either.

with 3 preamp tubes, sounds a gainstage short of the prior dsl series
RobSoundtrack 1 year ago
I bought this amp yesterday. I play metal. And I gotta say, If you play rock this is the perfect begginers tube amp, but for metalheads, your better off getting something else. The gain on this amp is rather weak (in my opinion) but overall everything else is cherry.
ThroughOurEnemies 1 year ago
I test drove one of these a while back...it was better than a stock Peavey Valveking or the equivalents, but I don't think I'd bother unless I found one under $400 and gave it a tube change. For the same price you can get a Ceriatone kit that'll sound ten times better.
Though I'm jealous of beginning guitarists these days...they have all these affordable tube amps to choose from. We didn't really have such a thing in the mid '90s, not any that sounded decent at least.

if thats a 100W head i wonder how he could turn the volume so loud without tearing down his ears and the shop as well.......

Um... what about @ 5:50? Sounds metal to me.
Lucifer9387 1 year ago
@Lucifer9387 Even a vintage vox amp sounds metal with drop D.
Gabriopunk77 1 year ago
@Gabriopunk77 Sorry you missed the point, someone had a problem that he was only play blues riffs and not enough metal, I was merely pointing out that he does play some metal style riffs. Which includes drop D tuning and higher gain. I wasn't referring to the sound of the amp.
