I see what you mean. I still wouldn't consider Mariah an average singer though. She can scale almost five full octaves and claims her throat doctor has never seen vocal cords as unique as hers. It is as if she has three different voices. A lot of the musculature in Whitney's neck though comes from years of improper singing and forcing out those high notes in chest rather than head voice. Let's hope you're right. though.

Mariah Carey is not an average singer. What a foolish thing to say. She is the third best selling female artist on Earth and number one in America. An average singer would be the high school music teacher who isn't good enough for a record deal.

...I've toured the world as a musical theatre performer I know what a mix is. FYI belting can be done perfectly healthily she just used poor vocal technique all together.

But in reality I think touring is the worst thing she could do for her voice right now. She's been working since 2006 with the best vocal coaches in the world just to get it to the point its at now. She needs to use her voice as sparingly as possible to preserve it. Touring is the exact opposite of what her voice needs.

Like she said on Oprah, it started going wrong after Bodyguards (meaning taking drugs), that's exactly when her voice started to be darker and lose some range.

I don't think it's because of excessive touring.

It really was probably more than anything because of the Bodyguard tour that lasted forever. She developed nodules at that point which she never have surgically removed which was probably more of a contributor than anything else. Yes even she says she abused drugs heavily afterward but cocaine may render you stupid but it will never do the things vocal nodules will do
